What Nexon did in copying the lightning can be explained as a reputable company with a rogue employee who screwed up.  Even then, what Nexon produced was a substantially different image that merely used a modified version of someone else's picture.  It's still copying, but it's very understandable how that could slip without someone at the company noticing before it was released to the public.

As for what League of Angels did, they might as well be advertising that they're a private server for some other game.  That wouldn't be any worse, either for flagrancy or brazenness of copying.  I hope Square-Enix sues them for every dime they've got and runs them out of business.

With how shamelessly they rip off every big IP out there it wouldn't surprise me if they were located in a country where there's no such thing as copyrights, and taking legal action against them would be far more difficult and costly than its worth.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

If being located in a different country were enough to avoid copyright laws entirely, you'd think The Pirate Bay and various predecessor file-sharing/piracy sites would still be in business.  It does take a while to shut them down, but if you revoke their public IP address and take them out of DNS registries, no one outside of their host country can find their site.
