Is this game launched??

HexipoxHexipox Member UncommonPosts: 241

Hi all,

Maybe it's me who is somewhat slow, but i keep getting updates in mail (like update 17!) but im wondering, is that beta testing updates or is the game launched?

In their teaser story "Blade of the avatar" it says it launch 2014 ...

I'm just confusing, there is  a lot fuss - a lot updates - but i never heard it actually launched..?

No, it's in PRE-Alpha but there are people playing it (it's the equivalent of an early-early-early access)

So actually it did better than they have anticipated on kickstarter - as i remember it, it generated quite a lot over the budget they had set for it.

Then they post a release in 2014 in their own marketing - and now, a year later its not even in alpha testing?? so it could be well over a year before they even start beta testing it? meaning the game probably wont launch for another 2 years ...

    oh great lord B =)

The game is as niche as they go, I reckon the people who are playing it now are more or less 90% of the people interested. As the yare already playing, they don't care if it takes 1,2 or 5 years to come out

The updates are communication with backers. That's it. Actually, I received communication through KS updates for Pillars of Eternity just days prior to launch.

As for a release timeline.....still not sure why they put these highly optimistic dates as estimates, but whatever, I suppose. It's out on Steam so it's progressing :)

I am a HUGE Ultima Fan, actually Ultima 8 was the RPG that got me to love the genre - then Ultima Online came and my world of computer games were blown to pieces - got drawn into this MMORPG gamestyle by UO and well still miss it =)

Cant wait to try this game, but i really dont wanna jump into a half finished game - I want it when its done - so was just wondering..

Yup still in alpha testing but its getting better all the time.. now with the move to Unity 5 its even better.

Its quite feature rich already so its worth jumping in to test and help find bugs if you wanted.. you could have fun doing it, but if you dont like doing that kind of them then its best to hold on.

On kickstarter the dates are estimated not locked in dates.

I would  say this is a fair assessment.  This is a game built on community not combat, their are tons of player made events housing, things like that.  But as far as true exploration and combat?  The game is fractured up into little pieces that are joined by a top down interactive map, think warband.  The combat is just there because, it has to be.    But I cant imagine anyone playing this game because its fun to kill stuff that's all I'm going to say about that and not because its hard its just...

The game however is definitely playable in its current state and could be enjoyed by the right person.

Yeah, if they're lucky it'll be late 2016, but more likely even late 2017.  If they launch any sooner, it will be due to cutting scope and releasing less than what they originally committed to.  Their weekly updates and quarterly schedule posts continually show them delaying features and content over and over.  They are still way, way, overly aggressive with their own timelines.

i'm a huge Ultima fan too, but you can trrust me if i say this game is actually on prealpha (not even alpha) state. needs years of hard work before launch...

This game is in pre-alpha, it's a framework of the game. They are working diligently on the single player aspect which will have Ultima i,ii,iii,iv,v,vi,vii, viii style quests. They haven't opened these quests up yet as that would ruin the launch. Be patient, this game will be fun at launch. All good weapons on vendors will be player created.

The crafting will be interesting, astrology will be involved in crafting. Craft a weapon during x cycle and it will be imbued with x power. There are planets in the sky and these things matter they are not simply decoration. The night is actually dark. Very dark. There is an in-game time. I think it's 24 minutes is 24 hours, something like that. They added raining, it looks realistic. The communities will be interesting. There will be an underworld of dungeons and caves. Even underworld cities.

As for the story, I've read the main back story "Blade of the Avatar" by Tracy Hickman & Richard Garriott, it's a very interesting read and I don't read fantasy books, but it's a very cool back story. Reminds me of a continuation of Ultima VIII (Pagan) to me. Leaving off at the Lost Vale, the expansion that never was.

It's a game for old school RPG fans, so you'll either love it or not, but I'd wait until launch before you judge it. I know it's on steam and steamers are like, This game looks like it isn't even finished! It's improved greatly in the past year, every release is better than the last.
