Why not add a both option?  voted GW2 but i will also play ESO on PS4.

Hands down ESO. It's the future.

OT - Is it just me or is there considerably less excitement for this gw2 xpac than would have been expected?

    Hard to say...

gw2 is looking like only 3 zones that they are adding.  Hard to compare that to all of ESO.  I know they say that the zones will be vertical... But who know how playable they will really be.

will wait for beta to determine gw2.

eso I am waiting to buy when less than 60, but definitely more excited about eso at this point.

I choose the "Both" option... oh, wait...
  • IselinIselin Member LegendaryPosts: 18,719

Not really a fair comparison since HOT is a paid expansion and ESO doesn't have any of those yet. GW2 + HOT is much more expensive than just ESO.

But I'd go with ESO anyway because of its lack of lock boxes image

I've seen lots of excitement about the expansion among GW2 players. They added neat mechanic in game whereby you can find a portal to HoT to beta test.

i picked gw2 because i've just recently started playing it and ESO doesn't look like it is any fun

I had fun once, it was terrible.

I am more excited about GW2.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

Voted GW2 but will probably play both. I don't play much at the moment but I am looking forward to mucking around with the new class and specializations.

ESO I keep wanting to like but for whatever reason, every time I try to get into it, I only make it to level 15-20 before I get bored.

I just reinstalled Guild Wars 2 today and had fun just running around the world. A much better game then ESO.

I want to try out the new spvp map and class trees, but I have become addicted to ESO's pvp now so I'll probably be mainly playing that.

ESO.  Having plenty of fun with PVE so far and it's been even more fun as I've sharpened my focus on what my character is trying to do (was a bit weak on the game at first because my options were so wide open that I tried to harvest and do everything, which was destined to fail in both crafting and combat.)

Tried ESO PVP but it was (as expected) as bad as any other MMORPG PVP.  Still it's worth trying in each new MMORPG just to be sure (after all GW2 came pretty close to enjoyable PVP.)

Which results in my current main games being:

    • ESO (PVE only; looking forward to trying group content over the weekend as that'll probably determine whether I stick with the game long-term.)
    • EU4 (PVE only)
    • BF4 (PVP)
    • World of Warships (PVP)
Also finally got my Dirty Bomb invite yesterday, so that's another PVP game I imagine I'll enjoy.

GW2 imo.  ESO was incredibly awful at being an mmo in terms of groups (those who have/do play it know what I mean).  Not just that, but the combat wasn't done very well.  From animations, to weight, to even hitboxes sometimes....it's wonky.  I also didn't like the "freedom" in class builds.  You're "free" to make a magika build, and that's it.  Wanna make a stamina build?  Hope you don't plan on dodging anything!

It's a shame because I was really excited about the idea, but the execution is underwhelming at best.

While I can play both, I haven't bothered going back to ESO for a while, and I play GW2 daily.  The HoT expansion adds a lot more to existing character customization and fleshes out the heavy classes a bit more.  Overall its adding existing choice to whats already there, and then giving more PvE and PvP options which will likely add a ton of additional content in the future giving the amount of achievements they add per each new piece of content they create.   Its just a better overall game.

Plenty of excitement if you look at the official forums. During the silverwastes event where there was a chance at a beta portal dropping (this flagged your account as accepted to a closed beta event), multiple instances of the zone were running simultaneously for the entirety of the event. There's roughly 6900+ people in their twitch channel right now (2pm CDT on the 15th) waiting for the Points of Interest show to reveal more about the Necromancer elite specialization the Reaper.

ANet hasn't really started a major advertising push yet.

Personally I think both games are healthy and heading in a good direction.  Neither game punishes the player if they fall behind and/or don't devote x hours a week to 'keep up'  so both looking good for players.  The big question is, can Wildstar turn it around to become a 3rd decent option - fingers crossed for them.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
