Mechwarrior Online in 2015:
Here is the review of a very unique styled F2P thinking fps. It's a lot to take but certainly worth a look.

This game hasn't closed down yet?

Too bad, Mech Warrior / Battletech deserves a good game, and this ain't it.

    I have to agree.

Too much FPS and not enough RPG.

Still waiting on a 3rd Person Action RPG with a persistent universe map and unique maps tied to planets and their environments. Always with this FPS stuff is not what MechWarrior/Battletech needs...

MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

I was a founder at the highest founder level and I really really wanted to like this game, but development moved at a snails pace.  Two years in and the game still had just a couple of weak maps and the only thing being added to the game regularly were, no surprise, hero mechs.  Literally, that was the ONLY. NEW. CONTENT.  For years!

Is it a fun F2P, cash shop based FPS title?  Yes.  But so is World of Tanks which is  regularly being updated, even down to the physics engine being completely redesigned to be more realistic.  World of Tanks is a vastly superior F2P game and when I run into a tree with a 30 ton tank... it falls over and I crush it beneath my tracks.

I'll come back to MWO when:

    -  It has at least 4 game modes, all of which are optional.

    -  It has a bare minimum of 15 maps

    -  The environment can be damaged.

    -  Hit boxes are 100% fixed.  If I reinstall the game and shoot a spider in the face with half my weapons and he doesn't take any damage, then I'm done.  For good.

    -  SRM's are fixed.  The last time I played I could fire 10 salvos of missiles at a mech and only 5 of them would register.  It's a SHOOTER.  If the shots don't register, then the absolute, ground-floor, basic premise of the game is BROKEN.

    -  Matchmaking is fixed.  I lost count of how many times I was the only one on my team with kills.

    -  Mech bay and mech loadout.  FHS, why reinvent the wheel and make it square at the same time?  Fitting a Mech in the mech bay is such a huge PITA.   For the devs:  Go play EVE Online.  Fit a ship in that game.  Now go back to MWO and throw your idiotic fitting system in the garbage and copy EVE verbatim.

    -  For us founders.  You know, the ones who helped pay to get this game off the ground?  Give us more perks such as the ability to purchase phoenix mechs, and other packages, even after the sale has ended, or maybe throw us a bone and let us pick one mech from each new release for free.

There's probably a lot more that I'm just forgetting due to the fact that I haven't played in almost a year, but seriously this game needs a rapidly accelerated development pace.

Until then I'll be playing WoT as my F2P armored vehicle game.  It's a vastly superior product that is clearly and tangibly being developed and updated.
