I'm considering plunking down $20 for Steam early access to this game. Sounds reasonable. My only concern, though, is that there might not be many people playing currently. This is something I've run into in another early access I tried. I just can't get into a game that doesn't have a healthy population of players to interact with.
So, has anyone played recently? If so, how's the population? Assuming there are multiple servers, is one the most frequented?
Thanks!

whether its 0.5 of a game, or 0.75 of a game, hardly makes much difference, it is still incomplete, i am not a fan of paying to test in any case, and paying to play a game that only has partial functionality, is really not my thing, i can sort of see how people would be willing to pay to beta, though personally, i think risking your money on a game that might not see daylight for a few years is a risky proposition at best, and that is one mistake that i am definitely not willing to repeat.
Since the game will do a wipe at some point, not many are playing just to have it all deleted, myself included.
I cant spend the time just to see it all be deleted.
Nothing more than that needs to be said, and as sad as it is to see, I do not think The Repopulation is going to get beyond it to become anything resembling a "real" release.
Aside from being baseless, there is a lot of evidence to the exact opposite.
First is simply the breakneck development pace. Each patch is consistent, meaty and feature-rich. Last patch the majority of the nation housing system was brought online. This current patch sees the addition of the Hacking and Diplomacy minigames as well as a lot of other content passes including a new dungeon and a newly populated settlement. Patch by patch, big stuff is always happening.

The current aim is to see release by the end of this year, 2015. At the current pace of development, alpha should move into a shorter beta soon enough with plenty of leeway to attain a release by the end of the year. The Repopulation is on the cusp between "still-being-built" Alpha and the almost entirely feature-complete Beta test.

Me too. I wish there was a way to let us play and not get wiped. The skills go up so high, I would hate to get that far only to lose it all, so I stopped playing.
Though I know that ther will come a wipe, I won't stop playing because there is still so much to learn and to discover.
Developers are very active and helpfully in the forums and development of the game is a permanent process.
Television used to be black and white. Things change. Adapt.
TV's got better, having to pay to test is not an idea that is getting better, that is getting worse for gamer's.
As a consumer you expect products to get better, having to pay in hopes it gets better is a real problem and not one that should be expected.
I still believe in ONLY one acceptable format and that is shares. If you want people to "invest" in your game, then give them shares, otherwise you are just looking for free handouts and that is not acceptable.Developers are treating supporters like suckers, they wouldn't ask an investor to pay them with FREE money, the investor would expect returns.
I realize there are some devs out there, serious, with passion about their games that just need help. However MOST are just in this to make a living and will stoop to any standards to make money. That is why we see some games charging upwards of several thousand dollar packs, they know that amount is insane ridiculous but they also know there are naive>stupid people willing to pay it.
I do agree with wipes on EVERY game claiming unfinished, how could you allow progression on a system that is not finished, perhaps bugged/glitched or just not good enough. You need to progress in a game that is in it's finished acceptable state.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Baseless? not sure how you came to that conclusion, given that the game is incomplete, even as an alpha version, and certainly a long way from being a Beta. That the game is as yet incomplete is not really a matter of debate, but record.
Whether its 0.5 of a game or 0.75 of a game, is as i said before, pretty much irrelevant, its still not feature complete, perhaps when the game actually is feature complete this can be revisited, until they manage to do that much at least, i am not particularly interested in investing either time or money in it, particularly as i think they have some fairly significant hurdles to overcome before they can even make that claim in any case
sorry but this is the most stupid comment I ever read. tv used to be bw and then improved to a color version. being not paid for your time testing the game is a perversion of todays gaming industry. there is nothing to adapt to here - adaptation is another word for evolution not degradation
Although I havent played a huge amount, the game is updated on a frequent basis. Anytime I log in, I always see players in my near vicinity, but I cant speak to the overall population.
There is alot to learn with this game and that is part of the enjoyment. Its a slower moving experience because of it, and thats why the character wipes dont bother me that much.
Keep in mind there is no need to create multiple characters to test out different classes, unless you prefer a certain faction. Each character has the ability to try all weapons right out the gate so its a great opportunity to see whats in store.

I purchased through Steam and was able to choose my install directory.
There are people to talk to in game, but not a ton of people grouping up and stuff from what I can see.

Wasn't EarthRise one of the worlds worst? I only know what I read but rubber banding mobs, crazy bugs, no content etc... I hope it is nothing like EarthRise when it is finished.
Yes, it might be worse than any other, imo. I want a sci-fi sandbox more than most, and everything in the repop reminds me of throwing my money into the fire pit know as earthrise.
