You can judge the virtue of someone who plays these games by his respect for Korean ones. Alternatively, you can say that the lack of perceived respect in the West for Korean RPGs, is their highest recommendation. They are strictly traditional, hidebound games; their lore and setting are usually of the quiet, sincere type. They are always playable, and seldom offensive. Their budgets, I can only imagine, are much less than Western games. I have yet to see one waste money on voice acting; nor have I ever seen one with conspicuous anachronisms, to the point of the tackiness so often found stateside. There are cultural reasons for this (so I theorize).
Through thick and thin, the Korean RPG has been there. From the original Lineage, to Ragnarok Online, to Lineage 2, and then Aion to the modern-day masterpiece (as much as a modern RPG can be masterpiece) TERA--probably the only good one since Vanguard. But these more innovative games are not typical of the style itself; for that, one must look to games like Shaiya, 2Moons, Rappelz, Rohan, and Archlord, among many others. There are many things to recommend these games--a lack of ostentation, for one, a tendency for less obtrusive tutorials, and a firmer sense of vision, than any Western RPG, I have ever played. Indeed, that is one of the things that has always endeared me to Korean games; that is, if I go away for a few months and come back, the game will not be changed beyond all recognition. Indeed, if one were to go play a given Korean RPG today, no matter how old it is, one would find that it is much the same as it was when it was released. Imagine that--a game that does not have to cover itself with "patches", like a wounded animal, or a mountainman with torn clothing.
However this is, for someone looking for an RPG to play, they could do much worse than to look to Korea, and it would be a real shame, if, this worser element, were ever to displace--cause to close--a much nobler and more beautiful world of a Korean MMORPG.

OP, with all due respect, do not taint the term RPG with a list of generic mmorpgs. I liked most of those mmorpgs you mentioned (also Tera is FAR from a masterpiece), but none of them have the soul of a good RPG.
Do not mix the RPG genre with the generic formula still used today to define an mmorpg.

Play one and you've played them all... and also played ANY Korean game ever to be released in the future. They just give the same old games a shiny new front end and a new name. I wouldn't even bother to download one these days.
But if someone keep playing soo many games of the same genre shouldn't that mean he like that kind of games?

What are these master pieces you speak of. I see only F2P games with creepy pedo character creation screens. I cant relate to what your saying. Its not who I am or from where I was born. I am not tolerant of something that makes me feel uncomfortable based on the country I was raised in.
I'm sure Korean games make allot of sense in Korea they make little to no sense to me, And I find most of them truly offensive.
That's an interesing culture you describe sir. Strangely enough where I'm from a boy, or man, does not use the words "truly offensive" to describe something he saw in a video game.
I'd be interested to know what country you were raised in. I sure hope you're not trying to imply that everyone in said country is of your same opinion simply because they were raised in the same country you were raised in. And most of all, I sure hope that country you're referring to is not the USA, because I was born and raised in the good ol' USA, and I don't share your views, and I'm 100% certain that I am not the only one.
This has everything to do with YOU and the way YOU were raised, and very little to do with the country in which you were raised. In other words, speak for yourself. Not all of us are snob/stuffy elitist who are easily offended by video game pixels. Personally, I enjoy Korean/Asian designed games and actually prefer them to Western designed games. Know this, the offense you feel is in your own mind based on your own preconceived perceptions. You might want to look into your own psyche, and try to find why you find these games so offensive, before lashing out against others for not feeling the same. These are games we are playing here.
Korean games are kind of like Bowling alleys. The game is the same, but some have glowbowling, some have a snack bar, some have alcohol, some have good music, some are cheap, some are clean, some are dirty, some have larger balls, some have smaller ones. etc etc.
Korean games have different settings, different story, different focus, slight variations in combat, class building, character creation, costumes, pets, mounts, minigames, etc...
People still go bowling, even though they have done it a billion times before. Why? because it just works, it's a formula that doesn't always need a change.

i love korean games. i find western rpgs to be so bad, themeparks lacking any kind of immersion and plagued by cartoon graphics. i was waiting on black desert, but that one got ruined. so i am waiting for lineage eternal and lost ark. also im waiting for blade n soul.
its actually quite simple. korean developers care for the world and immersion. just combare tera and wildstar. in wildstar i am stuck to a zoner, at the end of it i hop onto a helicopter and leave to another zone (did during 10 days trial). in tera you have sense of adventure. you can visit every zone seamless.
still, i wish themeparks would die, western or korean. western mmos are like this: wolves spawn till you have 10/10 kill, move on. rpgs should be like this: > a farm,er lost his beloved sheep last night, hes not afraid about the safety of his family. he tell me go north, along the fields and search for a waterfall. the beasts gather there for drinking....
mmos simply lost the latter style. western mmos are gimmicky, full of mechanics and features, but theres no layer to connect this and make it immersive. in my example you also kill stuiff, but the package is different. mmos lost that package and it beats me how anyone can enjoy those lobby endgame games, lol. (zones, instanced raids lol).
Agree on some of your statements but then, some MMO's came from western continent (vice versa). All of it is a matter of enhancement just like what was done on other games or just delayed updates. For example on RBF, Rohan Korea has the latest updates from Rohan N.A, they have the same contents but the updates are just delayed as it is and subjected for enhancement for North American release.
