TERA’s Steam launch has been a fantastic success, and thanks to new and returning players, we are excited to announce the creation of a new PvE server: Highwatch. Adding a new server helps us avoid server queues during peak times, and accommodates the explosive growth of our player base.
Highwatch opens Tuesday, June 9 following server maintenance and will be available to new characters and transfers from all servers.

Expanding? Wow! Great news for Tera!
Guess I'll get this bad boy downloaded and I'll give it a go.
I like to tank. Suggestions on which I should go with?
I'm a MUDder. I play MUDs.
Current: Dragonrealms
It depends. Lancer is quite popular. Warriors can also tank, and are very fun to play but a bit more complicated to play as tank. Last but not least, they will be buffing up the Beserker to be able to tank very soon. They are also quite fun to play. If you like traditional tanking, Lancer is a true tank and the only way to go.
Sounds like Lancer main Berserker alt.
Thanks for the input!

Im back into TERA too, combat is just great and there is so much to do. Best battlegrounds in a while!
TERA is adding servers while other mmos are struggling to hold on to what they have. TERA is the best non sub mmo on the market and En Masse is also the best. Remember Asian mmos don't do well in the west.
Sure, if you throw enough garbage at the wall something will eventually stick.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
One mans garbage is another mans treasure.
Publishers can say whatever they hell they want, but I guarantee you that the new server is an attempt to promote microtransaction sales and not because of population. There isn't a single recent thread here or in reddit stating there are high population issues. In fact, you can head to reddit and see players giving advice to other players to transfer towards a larger populated server to improve their end game experience.
Developers of microtransaction games don't open new servers to lower stress on the servers in older games. They open them to entice players to spend more money. The attraction of spending cash to be first/top of the server is appealing to whales.
Def a warrior, very fun and dynamic class to play. Lancer is more linear imo.
That's the spirit. Let no good news go unchallenged.
I self identify as a monkey.
I play TERA so I don't need to go anywhere.

I have to disagree. It has the worst instanced pvp i've ever seen. lol.
I mean, you have to fight giant monster babies in diapers... seriously, here's a picture.
The other pvp maps are pretty much PvE. The only tolerable one is Corsair's Stronghold.
The servers are really busy though. There's no denying that the Steam promotion was a success. Whether or not it's a long term success is still to be seen, but they definitely need a new server.
No, I didn't mean Tera was a bad game. I just meant that there have been so many Asian mmos released that a few good ones come out of it. I occasionally go back to Aion, and I bought Tera but don't play it because of the community and the quest system. The game itself is beautiful, with ok combat.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
I must be seeing things because I know I did not just read someone type that "developers opening a new server is an attempt to promote micro-transaction sales and not because of population?" So in other words, according to you, opening up unnecessary new servers is just a widely used business tactic used by game developers to generate "potential" cash shop sales? You can't be serious. I challenge you to find an example in MMORPG gaming history to prove that point. Rest assured that there are many easier and more effective ways to raise revenue from cash shop sales in already existing populated servers, than going through the trouble and expense of opening a brand new server, just because.
First of all, opening new servers is not a cheap endeavor, and certainly not one that a failing, or just making it, game would make. And secondly, no game wants to open a new server to sell a few items from the cash shop, knowing that it may soon be empty and need to be shut down. If the other servers were not over-flowing as it were, opening up another server just to get sales from a paltry few new gamers would not, in any way, shape or form, be a very wise business practice. All it would contribute to is an angry and complaining server player base and a really quick and eventual server merge announcement. MMORPG server mergers are MMORPG death-knells and developers do everything possible, including putting up with over-populated servers until it is absolutely necessary, to avoid them with a passion. This is a fact and widely known. Your post has fail written all over it, in capital letters. You know why? ...
... Because all they need do to raise more revenue is release more "fluff" in existing populated servers.
That is all.
Here's a parting case in point for you. Did you know that the mere release of a cash shop summer bikini costume set for the Elin race raised tens of millions of dollars (I think it was over fifty (50) million) and literally saved the game?
One (1) . bikini . costume . set ..................................
If you plan to play lancer and do not have a static group for endgame....good luck
Also you can now opt to queue for dungeons and not wait for a tank but get another dps class, so no more waiting and waiting and waiting for tanks which is also the reason they took out the "blast from the past" option...
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Warrior in TERA (from a veteran tank), is one of my all time favorite classes.

BLING BLING !!
It is nice to see someone else that can see through the funny nonsense that goes on with developers and publishers.
However in saying this the game did and has had some really good success through Steam,it is no lie. However i did just recently go back and try this game again for the like the 5th time and was only a couple weeks ago and it was very low pop. However i believe that was before the Steam launch.
What really does happen though is you just get a bait and switch players move to new server, old servers become less populated, yes it is a marketing gimmick but not as bad as SOE and the EQ1 ordeal,at least they really did get a decent amount of new players.I see a peak of around 20k concurrent.Well this again is speculation,it could simply be old players login with new accounts through steam, possibly duo boxing or just wanting a new account.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
You should really try to read a few prior post before rushing to type. Had you done so you wouldn't have needed to waste your time with this post. Here, I'll copy/paste it and save you the trouble of looking for it? I don't mind ... it's actually worth repeating.

Haters can do better.
Transfers you said OP?
Why make a new server if the purpose is irrelevant since people can bring their Max characters there?
Makes no sense really to have a "New" Server yet it will not be really new since established characters will migrate there.
No fun at all, been there, done that in the "other" mmo.
If it were a fresh reroll, All start at level 1, no transfers, I might have been interested...Oh well. Good Luck.

Saying that opening a new server is a marketing gimmick is just nonsense. If you play the game you can see it is packed, at all times. Chats are positively buzzing. You need to change channels several times if you want to quest or farm anything.
I am sure there is a need for new server (and I hope it stays that way).
that killed my desire to play ..... why create a new sever if u allow transfers? booohhh
Because the addition of a new server has been dictated by necessity due to the other servers being full to the brim and needing relief. This to the extent that players are having to be subjected to lengthy server queue's from time to time o.O
Man, Tera's success is really putting a hurting on Tera-haters and haters of PvE quest-centric MMORPGs. Developer's are now taking note and bringing the MMORPG genre back to its originally designed concept. Meaning the short MOBA/FPS fad experiment is nearing its end. MMORPGs are coming back home!
Loving the crocodile tears lol
