    solution:

    (step one)

sell your account to a friend (or ebay). give him (or ebay) your max lvl chars and items you won for yourselves during the last 3 years.

    (step two)

buy the expension from the money you got from your friend (or ebay) and get the base game for free.

    (step three)

    profit!

The flood of crybaby tears and entitlement throughout this thread is hilarious. I suppose I should thank Arenanet for giving me lots of free entertainment without even having to buy the expansion.

Maybe you guys should blow up the forums crying about that too. They're providing something else for free that you aren't getting: amusement and laughter.

I didn't play Gw 2 for very long because I still find Gw 1 to be the superior game.  However in the time I spent with it, I often wondered why nobody ever spoke in groups except for the obligatory "ty" when someone was revived from that (imo) ridiculous downed state.  After reading this thread, I think I can see why there is so little communication in the game, at least from what I experienced, lol.

Maybe this is being Devil's advocate or whatever you want to call it, but seriously guys, you have gotten almost-free content for what, three years now?  OK, yes the game is b2p but considering the general hatred that is spewed at sub games now (which I disagree with, but this isn't the time or place for that), you'd think that this situation would be considered a blessing!  If I was ANet, you're damn right I'd be charging full price for a full expansion.  What the heck is so wrong with that?

Again, sorry, I am not a current player, but c'mon.

Maybe some of these guys are getting so worked up due to being crabby that it's bringing them to tears. It explains all of the crying, not to mention this IS the GW2 forums, so it's standard to come in here and piss and moan about something.  GW2 has taken that over from WoW a while ago.

Idk man GW2 forums have been pretty dead for awhile now. If it wasn't for the "columns" there would be nothing to view.

Looks like the player base aren't.

It shows what PvP games are really all about, and no, it's not about more realism and immersion. In other news, SWTOR's new expansion will be FREE to subscribers. Sounds like EA is learning from their mistakes while ANet keeps making new ones.

i have played both, SWTOR has about ½ the content, that GW2 has..and they want a sub for it too

    pathetic troll

A lot of people have played both.

The '1/2 the content' is objectively false so pretty sure he's not the troll.

We will have to see about that, because it's pretty common for a playerbase to go crazy over small stuff. Remember when people were comparing Valve to the Gestapo over the inhumane release of Left 4 Dead 2? They had a massive campaign to boycott it which was hilarious; http://i.imgur.com/yLucX.jpg

There is no real water to most of the arguments. Not even the one about not rewarding veterans. Veterans in the game have a advantage in the way many of the games systems are set up, from all the living story releases in season 1 which yielded rewards, skins(backpacks), achievements, 20 slot bags, unique exotic trinkets and gear, which are now unaccesable and might never return, and season 2 content which they got just by logging in, which is now behind a paywall for everyone else.

Not only that but many of the games systems like the way magic find % works, and laurels, and daily rewards, as well as account bonusses to Gold%, magic find% and karma% are all yielded on playing on the years.

GW2 is almost 3 years old. it's a pathetic argument to get mad at it being free for new players to decrease the entry barrier. the expansion is valued at 50 USD.

None of us know if it will be worth it. Like many in the community I don't know. I just don't. We havent seen or heard anything about the hard challenging content, and that seems to be what will make people make up their mind.

But I think GW2 HoT will be worth 50 USD. I really hope so. A Call of Duty Season Pass (4 map packs) cost 50 dollars. Warlords of Dreneor cost 50 Dollars. The latest expansions I bought for SWTOR are being given away for free to new players for the upcoming expansion.

Honestly, it is so subjective and relative that it is crazy to speak out about the value of this product. ArenaNet is going a different route. Unlike FFXIV, Destiny or SWTOR, you dont need to buy this expansion. No more powerful gear, no more levels. your still competitive in spvp, dungeons, world content, fractals and wvw. This was also the promise during GW1.

You cant do that in FFXIV. With the level increase you need the expansion or you are screwed. HoT will move players to a new region, but they purposely have made a smaller number of zones and landmass not to abbandon the old existing world and make it a wasteland. Another example of how ArenaNet are progressive. They are not giving up on the old content, and they are saying that carrots-on-a-stick and treadmills are not the answer to bait people into buying their expansion.

And strangely enough, this great standard has been completely absent from this entire debacle, and it really shows how jaded a lot of the vocal people are. They are basically saying: "**** you! give me free stuff! Reward me for playing a game 3 years or I will consider you disgusting".

The only part of this entire discussion I feel has actual merit is two-fold. One is that this this could have been avoided had ArenaNet been better at communication. Some people got caught buying the game on sale, and its true that they could have saved money by waiting until the expansions release.

    1) The argument about the character slot holds merit. Over the course of GW1, Factions, Nightfall and EOTN and GW2, players expected and pressumed a new class yielded a character slot. Because they were silent on this, people expected it, and there is an argument there that since the communication was so late on this, a character slot given to the base edition and two slots for the deluxe edition is appropriate.

    2) The expansion doesn't even have a release set. You could potentially have months to play, including the beta events. And that is not nothing when other games have monthly fee, cash shops AND price 35-50 dollars for expansions in a triple wammy.

I think what frustrates me about this discussion is that you have many people who are jaded against the game already, and they come in here and add all their problems with the game to turn this into a real ****show. It's annoying because the actual discussion gets lost in a vaccum of misinformation and entitlement that doesn't benefit those of us who are deeply passionate about GW2.

If you just play the game, even as a casual player (like me), you should have enough money to buy character slots, fluff gear, finishers etc etc.

I just did PVP, havent touched the game in like 4 months and I got enough character slots for every class, skins for my weapons, skins for my shiny armor, all finishers, gathering bonuses etc.

And never spent any more money except the retail price for the game when it was launched.

It's a expansion, they are not forced to give you extra items or services. You already got a outstanding mmo without having to pay a subscription.

Did you think that Blizzard for example offered the extra pre-order fluff with their expansions for free? No, You have all paid for that with active subscriptions.

    1) I'll argue, with 20 years of MMORPG experience, that the marionette event and the destruction of the capital city, Lions Arc yielded in some of the meaningful and impactful and world changing gameplay I have experienced in an MMORPG. You had to have been there. a perk of being a veteran.

MMORPGs are about the immediancy of the moment and "you should have been there". Not this static crap with a non changing world.

    2) They have stated that they wish to bring the best parts of season 1 back into the game via fractals at some point.

    Exactly! Right on the money.

Think about all the benefits from HoT you get even if you dont buy the expansion; You get the new WvW borderlands maps, you can take advantage of the guild hall system and the guild mission system and all its rewards, sandbox gameplay, and customization if the majority of your guild has HoT.

You can use the new Spvp game mode, you get the reworked trait lines, and most of all, the whole reason for HoTs lack of new levels, higher tiers of gear and relative few new zones - Is not to invalidate the existing content by making drought zones that are abandoned.

You dont need the expansion and you can still have the top tier gear in dungeons, spvp, wvw and world. people will still do orr, world bosses, southsun, karma trait, EOTM. You still get to work towards laurels, dailys, achievement points.

Can you do that in FFXIV or SWTORs expansions? no. if you dont get the expansions you are screwed. the new meta is the level increase and higher tiers of gear. And those are effectively subscription games! But I am not going to go to their forums and start acting all crazy. That would be an insane and misguided agenda. I just wish people had some perspective.

Someone in my guild suggested that, when veteran players buy HoT, they should be able to gift the base game to someone else. Do you guys think that would be a good idea or fair? if they did that, is there any chance that it would end up in the hands of gold sellers or spammers?

would Anet get enough new blood who would buy the expansion later, or buy gems? if its true that only 10% of players engage in micro transactions (I forgot were I heard that) they would need a lot of players to engage in that.

i tried the destruction of lions arch, it was one the most disappointing zerg zones i have ever seen, specially compared to the

they took a functional , busy zone, and turned it into barren, void wasteland
