I am not sorry on this but I am going to call you F2P players out on this right now. MrSnuffles. Now that its F2P for a month you seem happy as a claim. WHY IS THAT? You talk so negatively about this game all the time. Now that is F2P your happy and its good? What is up with people like you. Seriously are you that again paying for a dam game that you need to trash it endlessly until its Free because you do not want to spend money? Serious here because I dont get people like you.
The game is not worth a subscription because it's not good. Not for the content it offers but i am happy to play it for free every couple of months just to catch up and be ready if it eventually becomes good. FFXI took a while too before it was good (Zilart and CoP).
What is not to get? The game has huge problems but why not give it a try every couple months, maybe a miracale happened and it got better.
Here is an honest question. What game does not have its problems? Answer NONE.
The game is not worth a Subscription in YOUR eyes. Remember that. However remember this There are developers, Network Administrators, Customer Support people that DEPEND ON PAYING CUSTOMERS TO PAY THEIR PAYCHECK and FREE DOES NOT GIVE THEM A PAYCHECK. What it does do is continues to get CEOs to think that some day you will spend a bit of money so they develop business models to get you to spend money and guess what. That means if the CEO finds a way to cut jobs because they want to try to get a person like you to spend money they will do that. While I accept a promotion to give people a chance to play a game and TRY IT OUT what I do not agree with is trying to get people like you in their game because you ALREADY do now want to pay a sub. The game is OK when its FREE yet if it requires money it sucks.
Well I am done for the night. None of this is a an attack on you, its a disagreement with your logic or the way you think about this because it involves paying for a service which people rely on for a paycheck. But not only that I think of it as this, if I had a beer and it was so bad I hated it, making it free does not make the beer better. The beer still taste like crap giving that beer away for free is not going to help to pay peoples paychecks' at that beer company. It's as useless as that beer.
Yes in my eyes it is not worth a subscription, never said different. It's still a horrible dull and boring lobby token grinder and i doubt i will endure the full 30 days. I most likely will do the story quest to catch up and that's it.
This is capitalism and free markets. If i don't want to spend my money on something then that is my free choice. There are thousands of companies out there and they all have employees and paychecks, do i need to buy something from all of them just because they might fire some?
What kinda of twisted fantasy world do you live in?
Here is my core problem. You constantly are negative to this game, the minute its free for a period of time for you; you act as if all is OK. I have no problem with you getting a promotion with the chance of maybe you might become a paying player by the end of that. While its your choice to pay or not; this way of looking at things is over used and does cause pain when businesses change their model. For Example if a Gym when from a Subscription model to the Pay Per units used. While the sounds of paying $1 an hour for using a bike for an hour might be much cheaper than a full Gym membership it causes other issues. The Gym Owner will want to cut staff and make computers do the work of staff making people loss jobs and not have money to put food on the table vs today's $40 per month per member model which keeps people working right. It does not matter if you like the gym or not, it does not matter if you use the gym or not, you are a paying member you are paying their paycheck. If you are not a paying Member they will give you a week free to try to get you to spend your money after. So its a marketing scheme vs trying to really change the model.
Now lets move on from that. Yes FFXIV is a Lobby based MMO, but lets be honest what MMO does not feel like a Lobby Based MMO today that was made after wow? I can think of 1 ArcheAge however AA is not for everyone. Even with all the other MMOs finding out that the WOW formula does not work did they change from becoming a Lobby based driven MMO to not? Nope WOW put more drive on LFR and other stuff, same can be said about every other MMO out there.
While I would likely agree with you that MMOs have been well boring as of late with the lobby design. I however have found enjoyment by moving away from the lobby style by getting my MMO friends into FFXIV. I also do not use the duty Finder much in FFXIV except for the 8 main trials. All my 4 mans I run with either friends or using the Party Finder in game and make friends who later on I run with again. So I moved away from the lobby design a bit I found its more enjoyable for me and my wife. I ALSO came to the realization that MMOs are not going to not have cross realm dungeon finders because well the MMO population. I also came to the Realization in AA that open world systems designed around the sandbox games like UO and SWG just will not work today. Too many people dont want to work together or make friends. So I need to find my niche which I love dungeons which FFXIV offer a lot of and build my own network of friends that are like minded.
While I do wish for the older days. They are not coming back even with Indy games it just will not work. Too many people today want instant gratification AKA lobby based games. I know it sucks but thats what it is. I at least find a P2P game that I could carve out my own little world in.

Why is it not good?
Where is this list of huge problems?
I don't play any longer - initially because I was having issues with the forced dungeon/raiding to advance my character - every one I was forced to do was a horrible experience - everything was a complete rush and not only that you were expected to have watched a youtube of someone else rushing through
After 4 or 5 of these I stopped playing just before I was expected to go through it again - still, I quite enjoyed the rest of the game - particularly crafting
before being tempted back into playing (and paying) again it was announced that even subscribers were expected to pay extra for additional storage - uninstalled and threw the box and disc(s) away
That's part of the conundrum of MMORPGs. They make a game and expect new players to come play the game, then force group everyone and expect them to play nice together even if there is a massive difference in skill and personal objectives. The fact we have to use the internet to prepare for a dungeon or raid stands testament to the failings of developers to address this issue.
I still, to this day, do not understand why developers think that the problem with keeping the community together is related to mixing the audiences via level sync. The issue is that they are breeding the kind of player that is only concerned with currency grinding and achievement hunting thanks to their own game design instead of providing an exit condition so people can refresh themselves for the next wave of content.

gatheris,
Yea thats my problem with DF groups is they sometimes to rush. I have had a better experience in DF groups in FFXIV than WOW from the standpoint some do help people out. Others though are bad.
Thats why I use the Party Finder to find players on my own server to play with because they are all like minded players. If I do a slow run we dont get people who want to rush.
Now if you are interested or already on Siren look me up. My wife and I would run with you. We like to take it slow and easy. Thats our style. I have a friend who recently transferred to Siren to play with us again. Or you could start a new toon. Up to you but the offer is there if you are looking for like minded people.

Yep that is a problem. Thats why LFD/LFR should not exist because it pushes groups of players who do not belong playing together; together in a group. I dont get along with hardcore players who if they wipe once in an instance that is hard and new leave the group. I also dont work well with people who dont at least watch a video on a raid boss because explaining the fight for 10 minutes is not fun. Before LFD players at least would listen to me explain a boss fight so it was worth it, today its pull the dam boss lets go.
It's interesting how some people don't value their time. If a game is not good enough for you why play it even if it's free. I don't care if a game is free or not, only if I enjoy playing it. It just so happens that most free games are free because they are not worth my time in my eyes.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

Well, the idea with LFD / LFR was to facilitate a way for people who didn't have the time to plan out and organize a group to tackle content that otherwise would have been restricted to the guys who do have the time to plan. Problem is that they made it act as a way to get gear and tokens as well, which gets those achievement / token grinders involved in the gameplay as well. That and the only reason the LFR system has to exist is the fact the people designing the game don't want to think outside the box and have NPCs or something we can use to fill missing spaces. FFXIV ARR has an entire adventurers guild and we can't even hire help? How booked are these people?

I don't understand why this is so hard to understand, actually.
I'm going to a wedding today. No open bar. No problem at all - I'll probably get a beer or a glass of wine with the dinner and not drink anything else because despite being easily able to AFFORD $8-$10 drinks, I hate *paying* $8-$10 per drink.
If it was an open bar, I wouldn't worry about it and have a few whenever I felt like it... and, of course, tip the bartender.
To put this in MMO terms, there's only so many subscription-based MMOs I'm going to pay for in a month. If I'm already paying for 1 subscription-based game, since my freetime/wallet are limited, I'm getting diminishing returns from a second, third or fourth since I can't play them at the same time, so I get less value from each additional one and it costs prohibitively more. So, I'll probably just stick to one subscription based MMO every month.
As far as F2P games, I'll have a few whenever I feel like it... and pay for the micro transactions I want (IE: tip the bartender).

Dan is just upset becauseSnuffles has been trashing the game in near every if not all threads; saying things like, it looks bland, boring, uninspiring, P2P?. . Trash, so forth and so on. Then when he thinks he can play said boring, bland, uninspiring, trashy game for free, he makes it seem like its the best thing since sliced bread and super excited about it. It's unfortunate that Dan took the bait to heart but oh well.
Snuffles just strikes me as THAT guy you don't want to be playing with anyways, luckily don't get many of those people on a JP server (Atomos); he's doing everyone that enjoys the game a favor by NOT playing this stupid, bland, boring, P2P trash game. I think I've been afk in Anyx Trine long enough! time to get back to the grind.
Easy. Rather than cheerfully share a promotion he made it a pretentious and somewhat deceitful announcement.
I love how i never have to pay for this game! I only play during these campaigns and i am better or at least equally geared as the people paying for it monthly.
So he never has to pay and has equal gear? Well OP, you're welcome to compare against my subscriber gear any time. I hate to break it to you but when this 30 day promo is over you won't be playing again for a very long time.
Piece of unsolicited advice OP: get over yourself.
Blah blah ftp. Put away the pitchforks; its a bloddy promotion to help enlist and retain players over the lean summer months and promote the new expansion. One month of tourists is not going to ruin your game or industry. Square obviously has metrics which support doing this financially or they would't do it.
Good for them, good for the players and good for the industry in general imo.
I don't understand why this is so hard to understand, actually.

Yes I am a little pissed off at Snuffles because he is bashing the game until it becomes F2P. Then it is a great game to him. Which is why I hate the MMO crowd today because they always want something for Free yet dont get that Free does not pay for people's paychecks. I don't mind Free as a way to get old people back and so on. Its the F2P that everything should be free and the result of hurting good working people because a bunch of people dont want to spend money.
Now on umcorian comment. I do understand the idea behind free to play. I also understand having a limited wallet. I have 3 kids, a wife who loves to shop and bills to pay. HOWEVER I limit myself to 1 maybe 2 MMOs at a time because I do not believe in playing an MMO for Free because people need to make money. Its a fact of life. So I do not tie myself up in several MMOs. What I do, do is play 1 MMO as my focus and spend time doing other things like painting the house so I dont eat up all of a game like FFXIV inside a few weeks. I pace myself, I am also much more happier than when I bash my head against the wall for hours.

Ok I see what your saying. I think FFXIV is doing that with their new option to make Dungeons (2.0 Dungeons) doable by a few people vs a full group. This way players get done what they need to get done however they do not get the EXP or loot out of it without a full group. Which is a good trade off. It makes it so its better to group with people than to have fewer people in your group.

Before LFD players at least would listen to me explain a boss fight so it was worth it, today its pull the dam boss lets go.
Ok I see what your saying. I think FFXIV is doing that with their new option to make Dungeons (2.0 Dungeons) doable by a few people vs a full group. This way players get done what they need to get done however they do not get the EXP or loot out of it without a full group. Which is a good trade off. It makes it so its better to group with people than to have fewer people in your group.
I read up on the changes to dungeons earlier. My thoughts are that it's a good move to make the dungeons easier to jump into to get the hang of bosses and the content. Unfortunately it's a bit of a lazy solution, too. Instead of building a long term, enduring system for handling dungeons with fewer players they are just going to scale all the damage and other factors down.
Is there anyway in the mogstation to know if you are able to get the free mnth, logic for me says I am but is there a check mark or something to say hey dl and login on 23rd you are good to go!
I bet there is not lol. Usual confusing squarenix stuff.
Maybe some realize time is a more precious currency than money? You can't buy yourself more time.

THERE IS NO FREE ONE MONTH. NO WHERE DOES IT SAY LOG IN FREE ONE MONTH.
THE CAMPAIGN IS FOR PLAYERS THAT RESUB IN THAT TIME PERIOD GET FEATHERS THAT THEY CAN TRADE FOR GEAR THAT WILL CATCH THEM UP.
Oh, that actually explains a lot about why I couldn't find anything right away on it. The feather thing is great, though. Gives returning players gear that is 5 points higher than the starter gear one gets when they enter the expansion area.
I don't know where you read i am super excited about playing the game and that it is suddenly a good game because it is free. You need to learn how to read because i never said anything remotely like that. Read the OP again until you understand it.
I have said it over and over again even in this thread that the game is a boring lobby based dungeon grinder with horrible boss fights and the most uninspired gear ever made. That does not mean it might not become good one day and when that day comes i am up to or close to the level and in the story to jump right in and i have not paid a single dime. That's why these campaigns are great.

Yes I am a little pissed off at Snuffles because he is bashing the game until it becomes F2P. Then it is a great game to him.
The game is still bad even if it was F2P nothing can change that. You are making assumptions from a post that says something completely different.
Let me make it clear for you once more: I can play for free during these campaigns to keep up with the story/gear and when it eventually becomes a good game i am ready to go. It might never become a good game since that Yoshi guy is a collossal idiot that has a hard on for tank swapping and "synchronous jump rope" boss fights but you know, never say never.
PS: I am happily playing FFXI for 12 years and been subscribed for that long because it is a good game. I was subscribed to various games over the years even to FFXIV 1.0/1.5 and i am Legacy status. But the current state of the game for me is not worth a subscription.

What would make FFXIV a 'good game' in your opinion?
They made hots and dots effected by skill speed / haste, that was a MASSIVE backend serverside undertaking that they did directly because of player demand.
They made raiding have levels so that way people can play competitively OR casually, again, directly due to their players asking for it.
How about flying? OH their player based asked for it directly?
Perhaps if you have a complaint, you should voice it, ask for it to be changed, rather than just saying vague issues that can't be resolved?
Originally posted by danwest58 Its a Marketing tactic to get people back playing. Its not going F2P. They been doing this for 2 years now.

Never said it is going F2P. I said it is pretty much F2P because every couple months they have a free weekend and i been only playing during those free weeks.
You really should stop talking out the side of your mouth. You have bashed the game on numerous occasions, claim it's "not worth the price", yet you post a character profile, which if it is your character, owns both the PC Collectors Edition and the PS4 Collectors Edition. If it wasn't worth it once, then why buy it a second time, and the Collectors Edition both times, no less? And you clearly haven't "Only been playing during free weekends", since you have the 90 Day Veteran Mount.

The issue is that they are breeding the kind of player that is only concerned with currency grinding and achievement hunting thanks to their own game design instead of providing an exit condition so people can refresh themselves for the next wave of content.
how about playing something you enjoy instead of just looking for freebies in games you apparently don't even like?
just because you can don't mean you have to.
I had fun once, it was terrible.
gatheris,
Yea thats my problem with DF groups is they sometimes to rush.
You play a game that you think sucks just because it is free....and we are not supposed to criticize that?
Yep that is a problem. Thats why LFD/LFR should not exist because it pushes groups of players who do not belong playing together; together in a group. I dont get along with hardcore players who if they wipe once in an instance that is hard and new leave the group. I also dont work well with people who dont at least watch a video on a raid boss because explaining the fight for 10 minutes is not fun. Before LFD players at least would listen to me explain a boss fight so it was worth it, today its pull the dam boss lets go.

Make it like old school FFXI. I know you weren't directing or asking me that question specifically, but I just felt like saying that.
I'll take a grindy open world realistic MMORPG to a token quest amusement park anyday.
We have a winner.
