Played 9 months and stopped playing December 2014. Even with a free month, hell make it a free year, I won't bother installing it again. RNG is crap, crystal farming is crap (Can you even destroy clusters in to shards yet?), a new player that needs to wait in queue for 12 hours to run a dungeon in order to advance is crap. Yet SE keeps releasing features after features for their current player base but leave new players trying out the game to rot.
The reason why they often do these sorts of schemes, 1 month free, 2 weeks free, and so on is because they're losing old timers but the newbies aren't staying for more than 2 months. The solution is so obvious but leave it to SE to screw a almost perfect MMO in to a disaster.
SE needs to remove their heads out of each others butts and make dungeon solo for new comers so they don't get pissed off at waiting queue. RNG, I don't remember ever cussing and raging this much over a MMO and I've been playing them since 1993. FF14, the awesome "LOOKING" game but destroyed with it's insane number of game breaking features / problems / mechanics / you name it. And here I thought GW2 had issues, boy was I wrong. And speaking of GW2, it's funny how most of FF14 player base that quits, goes over to GW2 and enjoy it enough to put more than 15$ a month on the item mall, the cost of a FF14 sub fee.
Speaking of sub fee, I don't care about paying per month, I've been doing it most of my MMO life, my only problem is when you pay 15 bucks a month and you got to wait in a stupid queue to run a dungeon in order to advance within the story line of the game, it's where you're going to have problems with your subscribers in the long, if not in the short run. FF14's world chat speaks for itself, and cut the "Join a guild" crap, yes a guild can help, but to a certain point. It's human nature for people to do their own business instead of putting 100% of their time helping others. Some guilds have even kicked newbies out because they were too annoying with their dungeon requests. So basically, FF14's community ain't all that to be proud of compared to WoW or LoL.
Bottom line, even if they do release Blitzball in a year, they won't attract any new players without fixing some of the major issues they currently got going, and it's a shame, me and thousands of others have been saying this for months, until we got fed up and cancelled our registration. Anyway, some good titles heading our way late 2015 through 2016 such as LineAge Eternal, Tree of Savior, Lost Ark, Star Wars Battlefront, and so on.
Literally EVERYTHING you said about 14 has been changed. MMO's evolve, not stay the same forever lol.

BTW, who plays GW2 ? I tried a free weekend and people in zone chat were begging me to buy the game. They claimed it was dead. Well, all the way to 20 I maybe only saw 3 people. EVER. So yeah, I know for a FACT that your lying.
BTW again, dungeons have been made soloable dude:
[2.0] The first time completion bonus has been adjusted as follows:
The amount of gil received has been increased.
The type of Allagan tomestones received for first time completion has been changed.
Players will now receive Allagan tomestones of poetics.
Players can now receive a first time completion bonus for the following duties:
The Keeper of the Lake / The Wanderer’s Palace (Hard) / Amdapor Keep (Hard) / The Chrysalis / The Steps of Faith / Urth’s Fount / Battle in the Big Keep / The World of Darkness
[2.0] The Duty Finder Settings menu has been added to the Duty Finder.
[2.0] The Undersized Party option has been added to the Duty Finder Settings menu.
Using this option, players can participate in duties without meeting minimum party member requirements. Furthermore, role requirements, level sync, and item sync are ignored when this option is enabled.
The Undersized Party option can only be used for the following duties 2.X dungeons / 2.X Trials / Binding Coil of Bahamut / Second Coil of Bahamut / Final Coil of Bahamut
This option has no effect on the strength of enemies or mechanics in the duties it is applied to. Players will still receive treasure rewards, first time completion bonuses, and experience points upon completion of duty when using this option. However, players will not receive experience points or items from enemies that appear prior to boss encounters. Spirit bond and soul resonance cannot be gained when using this option.
* Only the party leader may select this setting.
[2.0] The Minimum IL option has been added to the Duty Finder Settings menu.
Using this option, all gear will be item level synced to the minimum requirement of the duty where it is applied. Minimum IL can be used with the required number of party members or in conjunction with the undersized party option. This option is recommended for players who wish to challenge duties as they were when first introduced.
* The level sync enforced by Minimum IL will take effect even when used in conjunction with the undersized party option. * Only the party leader may select this setting.
[2.0] Loot rules can now be set when entering a duty while meeting the party size requirements or when using the undersized party option.
Players can access the Loot Rules tab of the Duty Finder Settings menu after meeting party size requirements, or by enabling the undersized party option. Doing so will give parties the option of using normal loot rules, greed only, or setting the party leader as lootmaster to determine individual loot distribution.
* Loot rules cannot be set for duties that require an alliance. * The party leader will not be randomly assigned upon entering a duty when lootmaster is enabled.
Loot rules can be confirmed on the duty commencement window.
Normal
The Need, Greed, Pass system is employed for all loot drops.
Greed Only
All party members must select Greed or Pass.
Lootmaster
The party leader determines individual loot distribution.
Loot can be distributed one of two ways by the lootmaster.
- Designating Loot Recipients The lootmaster can manually distribute loot to party members.
- Setting Items as Greed Only Loot can be set to Greed Only on a per item basis. This option can be canceled at any time. However, in the event party members select Greed and the lootmaster cancels Greed Only, the numbers rolled prior to canceling will be used should the lootmaster reselect Greed Only.
Furthermore, items can be distributed until a duty has ended. In the event players leave the duty without selecting Greed or Pass, items will be distributed to the last member to remain in the duty.
* Loot rules cannot be changed after a duty has started. * Loot rules will default to normal when randomly matched with other players via the Duty Finder.

[2.0] Zodiac Weapons have been adjusted as follows:
The items required to create and upgrade Zodiac Weapons must now be purchased using Allagan tomestones of poetics instead of Allagan tomestones of soldiery.
The drop rate for atma has been increased.
The number of enemies to defeat for the Trials of the Braves has been reduced.
The drop rate of alexandrite from FATEs has been increased.
The number of alexandrite received from the quest "Morbid Motivation" has been increased.
The rate at which weapons gain soul attunement and soul resonance has been increased.
The drop rate of dungeon items required to make a Zodiac Weapon has been increased.

Sounds like we left for the same reasons. My advice is give it another chance. The issue is we were probably both stuck at end game so long that we forgot all the good parts and remember only the bad ones... which pretty much describes the entire end game and all the support systems they had to keep people playing and paying. The game is fine when we aren't stuck doing fate grinds or are in a queue forever and a day.
... well that and not looking at our idiot doppleganger named fred that does stupid things in cutscenes. =p

Really? Instances need to be solo why? Because your 15 or 20 minute wait is too much for you? Make friends stop playing a MMO like a single player game. If you want a solo experience go play Single Player games. If you use the Party finder most of the time during Peak hours you can get a group in under 5 minutes all like mind players.
When it comes to RNG guess what they fixed that with the XPAC. Maybe you should read up on it because it resolves the issue with RNG to at least some degree.
I played GW2 the game is nothing more than a Glorified hack and slash game like Diablo 3. Quests that you start doing in Ishgard start throwing i115 gear at you, so this gives you a slight leg up. You'll be replacing the i120 gear from this promotion within 5 levels.

I participated in the last return event back in March, so I should be fully able to participate in this one.
Has anyone else been able to login?
Hope I'm not somehow screwed over and can't play for this event. Contacting SE's support won't do anything at all from my previous experiences with them.

Really bad wording on their article; makes it seem like it's a free month login event and not a "subscribe within a month and get some feathers" event.
To bad the Mog Station is refusing thousands of peoples subscription attempts, I preordered and still havent made it on yet, Mog Station errors out during payment or just takes money and gives you nothing.
The problem I have with FFXIV is that it's just like any another boring Theme Park game just with a Final Fantasy skin. So of course if you played one theme park you have basically played them all, because in the end you do the exact same thing as you would in the other. The only difference is that the story and classes are different and maybe some other minor things, but in the end it has the same mechanics as every other theme park mmo. To many people this is their perfect type of MMO, but to other it's get very boring fast, and we can see this with welcome back promotions FFXIV and other Theme Park MMO's often offer. This is because it's hard to retain a player base when the whole concpet of the game is to usher you from one 'ride to another' and eventually you get bored, until something new opens up.
This is just my opinion, so if you don't agree so be it, but I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Please stop spreading lies and slander about that which you do not know about.
I'm guessing because once you finish leveling (which is what I see here) there is no need to venture out in the world, because everything is menu driven with no need to actually go to these dungeons or raids. So people just stand around in town or their houses. This is basically how all theme park mmo's have turned into.
I played and watched enough streams on 2.0 to know at end level before the x-pac that all people did were stand around and queue for dungeons and other instnced based things. Yoshi P even said he wanted to utilize the world more than they did with 2.0. Now, if 3.0 ends utilizing the open world and not just queue up for dungeons and raids via your menu then I'll be proven wrong. Oh, there's hunts, but once you do them there is no need to revist them.
I'm not telling you what you should enjoy, I'm just stating the obvious on how theme park mmo's have tunrned out since the release WOW.
Ever since duty/lfg finder the world of these mmo's are worthless besides leveling because they put everything behind instances which are reachable though a menu via teleporting, so what's the point of the world if you're not utilizing it after you reach max level?

I am level 55 and a half LMAO, how is that max level? Also there are quests, important ones too, and yes, you HAVE to travel to the dungeon to open it. It does NOT just pop up. So NO, people are not just standing around waiting in a dungeon queue. NOR DO YOU HAVE TO BE IN A CERTAIN PLACE TO JOIN A DUNGEON EITHER. Which means when your queued, you could go do quests or hunts or fates or whatever. Look at my loadstone dude. I have NOT even finished half the content in the game yet. I still have more classes, moogle mail, MAIN STORY, all new side story, getting my crafters to 60, then after 1 month after launch, yesterday, we get Alexander and more story, etc. I have not been able to sit in one place for longer then a minute without having to leave.
What would make FFXIV a 'good game' in your opinion?
Make it like old school FFXI. I know you weren't directing or asking me that question specifically, but I just felt like saying that.
I'll take a grindy open world realistic MMORPG to a token quest amusement park anyday.
FFXIV is pretty grindy. I ran out of quests pretty quick with my first class/job combo and ended up doing plenty of FATE and levequest grinding and have a bunch more to go.
I have not played in a long time I had 180 days total of subbed time. According to the site I think I should be able to get the free month, but its not working. Do I have to do anything special?
Yeah unfortunately the OP seemed to want some kind of vengeance against others from what I can tell. Though the welcome back program is good, it's not a full set of armor. You get ten feathers to use on gear when you come back, be it armor, weapons, etc. All the items are 120. However, completing all the pre-expansion content will give enough currency to get the remaining pieces of gear that are missing if you are only arming up one class/job, so it isn't too bad.
I love how i never have to pay for this game! I only play during these campaigns and i am better or at least equally geared as the people paying for it monthly.
Just wondering in which world you live where you do not have to pay in shops, restaurants, homes, ... where everything can function and work for free. :-)

The Lodestone news was worded a little weird but i linked it for everyone to read and see for yourself. I was wrong and there is no free month, however you do get 10 iLevel 120 items which is a full set lats time i checked.

This is just my opinion, so if you don't agree so be it, but I'm not the only one who feels this way.
What a shame. You have NO opinion of your own. Maybe it's for the best that you don't play anymore.
How is any of this a lobby game?

So OP am I reading it correctly that your post title is in accurate and misleading?
Is there in fact a 1 month free access or not?
Lobby game my ass. BTW this DX 11 is the best.
Get your facts straight. My Laodstone: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/7984895/
Neverwinter is a lobby based game. Everything revolves around Protectors Enclave.
In FF, I have to make multiple places favored destinations. Lest it take me almost 30 minutes to get from Gridania to Lominsa.
In Heavensward ares, we have to cover A SHIT TON OF GROUND. Then sky......
I don't believe you have ever played this game.
FFXIV is pretty grindy. I ran out of quests pretty quick with my first class/job combo and ended up doing plenty of FATE and levequest grinding and have a bunch more to go.
Just wondering in which world you live where you do not have to pay in shops, restaurants, homes, ... where everything can function and work for free. :-)
On another note, thing's I do at end game:
1 - Dungeons
2 - FATES
3 - Triple Triad
4 - Moogle Mail
5 - Beast tribe
6 - Chocobo Racing
7 - Hunts
8 - Guildhests (some i have not done yet)
9 - Field and battlecraft leves
10 - Primal Ponies
11 - Free Company Trivia (every Friday Night)
12 - Weekly Static (2 days, wednesday and sunday)
13 - Crafting (my crafters are at 50 but I did none of the story yet)
14 - Leveling alts (which has become VERY easy now)
15 - Train my chocobo
16 - RELIC (need I say more)
17 - Getting my glam gear I want
18 - Getting Scrips (the blue ones)
19 - Continuing the story with the other jobs I have to get to 60 (their all 50 cept my 56 drg)
20 - FC world race (tuesday)-------(VERY FUN)
21- I need my buddy to die 200 time so I can rez him for the achievement.
22 - Try tanking more.
23 - Oh shit I gotta get my gatherer's up too. I love fishing and mining and botany.
=========================================================================
So yeah I can keep going too.
Again, not the games fault YOU can not find something to do at end game.
If you have done EVERYTHING you want to do, then move on. At end game, i'm having a blast.
Vengance against other? How old are you? You need to take a step back and take a deep breath, kid, because you are seeing things that are not there.
The Lodestone news was worded a little weird but i linked it for everyone to read and see for yourself. I was wrong and there is no free month, however you do get 10 iLevel 120 items which is a full set lats time i checked.
