How's the game fairing on the PC nowadays? I sold my ps4 a few months back but from what it sounds like...the game is thriving more on the consoles than it is the PC.

I hadn't played on a console since C64. Bought a PS4 at Christmas, tried playing with the analogue joystick for 3 weeks, Ebayed it - I cant even see how anyone thinks a console is comparable to a PC.

On a side note, what I was really looking forward to was being able to play with friends on the lounge but it seems now days you cant even do that on consoles (or at least very rare).

I said; "but from what it sounds like....the game is thriving more on the consoles than it is the PC." No one ever said I have a source. Hence, "from what it sounds like". It just seems like the consensus due to all of what I've been seeing. Ie; primarily console talk.

Well it is a brand new game on the consoles and a relatively mature MMO on the PC.   I think this is where you are getting the "thriving on console" vibe from.   Difficult to compare the two at this stage.

But really what difference does it make?  It is a game and some might prefer console and some PC.

    It is not a competition.

PC has plenty of population, though not as much as the console which just launched  last week and they keep having to add more PvP campaigns for the console.

I'm playing on PC mainly while dabbling a little into xbox.  PC has the advantage of text chat where you can easily have private conversations with multiple people at once, something much harder to achieve on the console.  The console version has NO TEXT CHAT, which is very strange for an MMO.   Plus the PC you can play with add-ons and the community is fantastic on the PC.  People are mature and there are plenty of women and older gamers.  The console crowd strikes me as far more male and younger than the PC crowd for this game.

Just play whichever platform you prefer more and keep in mind that the demographics of the community probably differ quite a bit between the two.

    PC population is quite healthy.

    Could you elaborate on that?

Are you asking if the game will last longer on one or the other platforms?    Again who can say?  I think that factor depends more on the gamers themselves.   I definitely think there are different attitudes between PC and Console and the hybrids who play both.

End of the day it just comes down to, do people like the game?  Some might like it better on one versus the other.   Time will tell I guess.

PC games are always better then console games.

UNLESS: the game is only released on console.

I strongly disagree with this. FFXIV was a lot better on the console than on the PC, imo.

As for what I mean by lasting appeal. I tend to want to play where the higher population will remain. Also the version that may last longer than the other (if one of the servers could potentially get shut down while the other servers stay up).

It just released on console.... of course there is a large number playing it for the first time and streaming it.

The PC side is healthy and constantly growing. As a guild leader I am continually seeing "new to the game" members.

Ehh sorry - The C64 was never marketed as a "console". It was a "personal computer". Had a lot of games the consoles of that era never could compete with. "Pool of Radiance"/"Curse of the Azure Bonds" anyone?

My (adult) son did not really enjoy ESO on PC but he seems to like it a lot on PS4 - Go figure :)

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!

I was an avid ESO PC player. Now I am playing only on console ( ps4).

I actually prefer the game on PC overall. But for me the main factor was comfort. No longer do I care to sit in front of a PC for more than a few hours at a time. However relaxing in my recliner I can pretty much play all day & night if i so desire and not have a backache.

When I was younger and played DaoC for 16 hour sessions sitting in front of a PC didnt bother me. Today after 2 hours I am ready to be off the keyboard and in a comfortable position.

The console version is very good IMO. The PC version is THE best version of the game overall tho. I just sacrificed some for a more comfortable and longer play time in game.

If they would have released controller support for the PC version i would still be there today. And no  xpadder just doesnt compare to native support. For PvP the KB / Mouse, for PvE a controller. That option would have kept me loyal to the PC version.

But this is just my personal preference. Yours may differ.

Now off to kick back in the recliner and play some ESO =)

If longevity is your biggest criteria, then go for PC.  Patches get released on PC before the console and PC players also get a test server that the console players don't get.  PC is not going anywhere.

In my experience, PC. The only thing the console version has over the PC's (in my opinion) is voice chat which is just a preference. But I played ESO on my brother's Xbox one and it had a queue to get into the game that said 30 seconds and 10-15 mins later I finally got in only to get disconnected. This happened two more times, eventually I got in, started making a new character and got disconnected. While these things are not uncommon they're still annoying but at the same time expected of a new MMORPG especially one on console.

Another glitch I ran into on console was with the thieving system. I was stealing on the docks in the starter area for DC and kept getting caught by an invisible guard. At first I thought maybe he was just a ninja ass guard but no, he just wasn't there, yet he was, I guess he was more of a magician guard. Somehow he was making his rounds on the docks completely invisible to the players, I assume he was making his rounds because sometimes I could steal from the NPC's and not get caught while other times I would instantly get the guard conversation window telling me I had been busted only with no guard in it.

The last glitch was when the guard killed me while replicating the error out in the water and I couldn't respawn, infact I had to restart the game to respawn.

Honestly those glitches are no big deal to me, the main reason I say PC is simply because of the mods and just like the single player TES games, modders make the game better.

I play the PC version on my 60" plasma, on my barken lounger.  Wireless keyboard & mouse ftw?  Most PC's now days have an HDMI output, so it's not hard.

If your not so picky ,then it shouldn't matter but me,i am REAL picky.Every so often i make the mistake of buying a console version of a hyped up game and man alive am i pissed after the fact.I did it with Skyrim,Dragon's Age and reminds me of how stupid i get from time to time.

The only time i wish i had a hard copy be it on console was with FFXIV,i bought a digital version, got a new PC and forgot where i bought the program from ,so i wasted that money.I guess is pays to keep digital in one place, like Steam, that way can forget console altogether.

Bottom line is i have been gaming for over 30 years, sure early consoles were a good option because  games just worked,no dickering around like configuring floppy disks and such, but once we hit the Windows 95 era, consoles should be used for nuclear testing :P.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You can't go wrong either way OP. PC and console are both doing great.

I prefer playing the game with a controller.  Somehow the combat just feels more dynamic.  Even if they add controller support to the PC version, I wouldn't want to use it all the time because I would be at a disadvantage to other players who are using a mouse.  I do find the graphics to be better on the PC.  I guess, the ultimate version of ESO for me would be if the PC version added controller support and they had a server that required everybody to only use controllers.  But until then, I will be going with the PS4 version all day, err day.

    Either...

The PC has had a large influx of new people since the sub became optional. And it already had a good population before that.

PC: access to mods, text chat, no built-in voice chat (yet), resolutions higher than 1080p with frame rates higher than 30

Console: no mods, no text chat (yet), buit-in voice chat, locked at 1080p 30 FPS, playable from your favorite chair or couch.

Longevity and population... only the shadow knows.

I would add that as both PC and consoles use megaservers the "perceived population" should be on a par for both.

I enjoy the game on both, but prefer the console.  The controls feel really good with the ps4 controller, and there is something to be said for not having to sit at the computer.  My computer can't compete with being able to kick back, relax, and enjoy the game.

I started with PC beta, played for two months, quit, came back for B2P and then barely played at all.

Now I'm playing XBoxOne version and I gotta say it feels so much better than on PC.  I didn't like it at first, I thought the PC had superior graphics (and maybe it does), but after creating a new character and putting a good 40-50 hours back into it I am loving it.  I think this game was really meant for consoles and now I agree with those who said a year ago that PC was just a beta for the console version.

That's just, like, my opinion, man.
