New edition to PC MASTER RACE community

DarkHighDarkHigh Member UncommonPosts: 157

Hello all,

I have a friend that has finally started converting to the PC MASTER RACE! I have donated him some hardware to help him get started including a core i3 cpu, 8 gigs of DDR2 1600, motherboard, case, 600w PSU, 1 TB HHD, and DVD-RW. I don't have a video card though and I can't afford to buy him one right now. I am coming to the community today to ask if anyone would be willing to help fund our new community members video card fund. I'm not asking for donations right now just testing the waters for interest.

I am quite aware this will be flamed shortly but I wouldn't be here asking if I wasn't in the middle of buying a house. Thanks for any help you would be willing to give.

Begging for money? I'm sure that's against the rules here if not it should be.

I don't think that such a thing even exists, but if it does, it certainly won't work with a Core i3.

Why don't they buy one component for themselves? If he doesn't invest in a single thing for his new computer, he's likely not going to appreciate his beast :P It's nice of you to give him a start though.

He could always get something cheap from craigslist or ebay.

  • DarkHighDarkHigh Member UncommonPosts: 157

that was a typo its DDR3. He is just getting back into school and not working. I wanted him to have a PC to do school work on but also be able to game a bit in between studies.

Again not begging just seeing if this could be the start of a "pay it forward" thread.

Didn't take long for the flamers to surface.

I would try a Kickstarter project - this cause sounds perfect for that.

The "PC Master Race" was originally a joke but evolved into the symbol for the hatred of what consoles are doing to the gaming industry.  If you haven't already, read the guide on reddit which explains what the console gaming industry is doing to hurt gaming.  It may help you have a deeper appreciation for PCs, even if you already own one.

I'm with JayFIveAlive on this one.  Your friend should be buying the system for himself, or he won't find any value in it.  A budget of $500 to $1000 is a good place to start if your friend is serious about ditching the console experience.  If you need a build, narrow down your budget and ask here or on any of the sites that help with that.

Also, don't nearly all Core i3's have integrated video? He could use that until he gets a GPU.

Comes off pretty desperate, pretty sure he could work an odd job here and there and get one himself without relying on others for a personal luxury.

But wait.....if you're a member of the so-called "PC Master Race" (LOL at that title, btw), you shouldn't be on here begging for money for a gpu!  You should be posting your PC specs as your so-called "forum signature", you know, to show off how much money you spent on your buggy, CTD-prone, driver-dependent machine that you'll need to junk in 2 years.

Meh typical response from MMORPG.com community. As I stated in the initial post I expected this. I went ahead and ordered a GTX 970.

You started a thread intended specifically for gathering handouts from users here, with the goal that you and your friend could do some gaming together on PC.

You then go on to say you can't afford to get the component for him, as you are in the process of buying a house.

Then, after it becomes obvious that the users on this forum are not going to be giving you any handouts, you buy the component for him anyway.

    /facepalm

What kind of a response did you expect from people here? You honestly thought that the users here might foot the bill for some hardware for your friend, so that you two could game together?

You obviously can afford the purchase, despite what you initially said, as you bought the hardware anyway after your little campaign here failed. So it appears that your entire motive was just to see if you could con some users on this site into paying for new hardware for your friend, saving yourself a few bucks in the process.

Then you have the audacity to make a thinly veiled rude comment about the response from people here being "typical", as if it was somehow our obligation to purchase this item, or at the least contribute to purchasing this item, for your friend.

Absolutely ridiculous, frankly you should be ashamed, and your lazy friend should get off his ass and get a part time job to support his new hobby.

I still can't believe this thread is real lol.  Oh yes, random internet guy #210488  I will buy you a gaming GPU for your cash strap "friend".  Do you want me to send you cash thru paypay? Or do you just want my account and routing number to help speed this along?  Have the con men really gotten this lazy?  This is almost as bad as the bots spamming "my friend makes $125/hr working from home".

This is a all new low for this forum.

Why would you expect some random person to just fork over cash for your buddy to play video games?  Then to claim you and he can't afford it atm.  Then you buy a GTX 970 (which isn't a starter GPU but high end lol).  How was your friend planning on playing his new computer which requires him to buy games for it?  If he can't even buy the keyboard?  Are you really this daft?

You must be a console player.  Don't worry, we don't need to replace anything after 2 years.  Since consoles take 10 years to replace, our TI-83 calculators would still hold up playing the ports.

So you are a tool? Meaning you knew what you were doing and what the outcome would be,....and did it anyway?

Firstly, you cant be apart of the master race with an I3.

Secondly, How is it that everyone in the thread is gullible enough to believe there actually is a "friend"

There is actually a friend and like i said at first. I am not asking for donations I am asking if it something anyone would be interested in. I am looking for other people who are more like myself that enjoy helping those in need. On multiple occasions I have paid for random strangers game time, games, hardware, helped with PC problems for free, whatever is needed.

Again, this community expects only the worst and that's fine. It's the internet you cannot trust anyone.

Why even bother to make the post anyway if you were just going to go ahead and buy the GPU anyway?

Do you feel the overwhelming need to puff up your own ego by telling everyone how awesome you are because you offer help to others? cause that sort of defeats the purpose of helping people.

I'm tempted.  Too many adult fairy tale believers here in the US.  It's frightening how stupid most of the US's population is.
