Unlike most of the other "action" MMOs, it has tab targeting, which makes it easier for the non action type. It has a thriving player run economy that can be played with skill, the crafting is quite good though not super in depth like SWG.
There is scaleable text and UI which can help you with with your seeing difficulties.
the crafting and gathering is excellent, rewarding and meaningful.
The community is very helpful and pleasent. More than in any other game I have played.
There is ranged classes with Pets (Ranger can tame animals, Necromancer has minions)
The game used a dodge mechanic but it can be customized to any key you want, and ranged classes can use it less.
The graphics are not super realistic, but the characters (humans) are made to be and feel realistic. the character creation is nice and robust, and there is the most customizeable dye and skin system I have ever seen.
The game is very accessable because you dont need to join groups to have fun. You just run around and explore and are part of the experience.
The game has a really nice lore, cool races. It has fantasy elements and tropes but no orcs and elves. It's quite its own.
The art is quite wonderful, as is the music.
I've played it for almost 3000 hours now, and I still really enjoy it a lot. Particularly thanks to the inclusive gameplay, the friendly community. I feel that its a game about having a good time and it really shines through.
Could give Project Gorgon a try. It's PvE-focused, with almost no PvP. Has an excellent community, and the game itself feels a little sandboxy since other players can buy what you vendor to NPC's, who open up new content as you earn favor with them and give them gifts. It's an Alpha, and the dev listens - if you really like PG but it doesn't have the compatibility you're after with your software, open a thread on the forums and I bet the dev will help to add that compatibility within a couple of months, if not weeks.
Although, I am not disabled, I can understand your frustrations.
For me its eyesight, small fonts are torture and I prefer voice overs.
Just curious, I know you like grinding, but have you tried any of the old school role playing games people are using Skype, and other video conference type tools to play RPGs ( like those from Fantasy Flight Games?
I spent a few hours in FFXIV today. So far I'm liking it very much. First Impressions:
1. Nice BIG TEXT
2. Pleasant environment, with wonderful terrain and architectural graphics
3. Good starting quests to help familiarize the mechanics
4. Pretty average character customization, better than some, worse than others, but definitely tolerable
5. The gold sellers keep the chat screen clogged -- does not bode well for running into bots at some point
6. The UI is really ungainly, even for me the tool bars are way too big -- will get used to it I guess
7. There are a lot of moving parts in this game, which will require more research on my part
8. I did select the Arcanist Class and am happy with the initial pet -- shall doubtless select Summoner as my Job
So far, I haven't gotten myself lost or terribly frustrated looking for things. Mobs seem appropriate to level, though I always kill a few extra, which puts me a level or two ahead -- my comfort zone.
Much thanks to those who were adamant about FFXIV being a good fit. I'm quite looking forward to getting in there again tomorrow.

Would be curious to know what you think about the combat when you hit titan (for dps/support chars) or Brayflox (for tanks) where dodging and placement and real teamwork really starts to be necessary, the combat is pretty much like that from then onwards barring random easy trash in the "world".
The game has some really nice graphics and good lore, (is a FF fan since the very first FF) but sadly in my case I found the combat in later levels to be a pita because of how dodging works but you don't really find out until later on.
It was quite funny as in brayflox newb tanks get yelled at for not dodging the flamebreath then after it's the tanks yelling at the dps for not dodging titans landslide ...lol
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
1. Have multiple sclerosis with serious hand tremors at times
2. Some loss of vision (small text difficult)
3. Stress is a component of my disease so random squads are a problem
4. I'm more finesse than wham-bam, more methodical than running around with my hair on fire
5. Horrible at PvP for the above reasons
Looking for a game that:
1. Offers meaningful alternatives to continual PvE/PvP combat
2. Has excellent, non-cartoonish or non-anime graphics
3. Possesses rich, meaningful lore
4. Has a good crafting/gathering/farming function
5. Possesses a solid, player-driven economy uninfluenced by external gold/resource buying
6. Preferably a mostly open-world/sandbox environment
7. Game mechanics should lend themselves to mouse/keyboard macros and voice command (i.e., Tazti)
8. A battle pet and mature, helpful player community are huge plusses
Games I have tried:
1. WoW -- played for a long time and did well with economy -- left because of changing player population and expansions
2. SWtOR -- sucky economy and little to do but combat
3. TSW -- bad economy (when I played) and the environment bummed me too much
4. PWI -- totally P2W, found a good private server, but end game is all about PvP and crafting is meaningless
5. GW -- played for a long time -- weak economy and little to do aside from combat
6. LoTRO -- hated the player animations
7. EVE -- played briefly -- there was no *me* in the game
8. PoTBS -- great game theoretically -- ship fighting, crafting great, land-based fighting was too hard for me
9. ESO -- weird economy and the fighting mechanic was difficult for me. Quit one month after game launch, may try again
Bit more background:
1. I'm 32, medically retired professional woman
2. Other than my disabilities, I'm quite hardcore, often playing as much as 16 hours a day
3. I'm very goal driven and will put in the time/effort when there's a meaningful goal
4. My character(s) become an extension of me, so I hate dying in game
5. I place greater value on politeness than on being first to the prize
6. I know all the dirty words (some in multiple languages), but I'd rather not hear F*** in every sentence
I realize, given the current player/gaming environment, I may be asking for the moon, but I'm hoping someone can offer something I've overlooked.
Thank you in advance!
i was curious about this same thing. my wife used to play mmos with me, like everquest 2. her left hand now is mostly useless and her vision is pretty bad off now. she has not played an mmo in years, maybe you have some pointers i could use to try to get her interested again? she was always a crafting focused player (eq2, vanguard, lotro).
Eso Neverwinter Final Fantasy and Minecraft can all be enjoyed with a controller on Xbox one, I'm not sure if that's an option for you, but you could sit comfortably in front of a large TV and be able to read text as well. If you're stuck with pc, I recommend trove.
Let me know if you dont end up liking it, I have plenty of free trial keys for the secret world, sadly there doesnt seem to be trials for elder scrolls online. One thing about guild wars, eso, and the secret world is that there isnt a crap load of hotkeys you change your builds on the fly so versatility isnt an issue atlest in the secret world but you only have to worry about 7 actives and 7 passives and then one active for your aux weapon. Also there is a slight global delay on attacks in the tsw it isnt fully twitch its certinaly action but its far more managable. I am not sure what you mean by bad economy you make most of your money selling items to npcs to be honest and other things, there is still stuff you can sell on the auction.
The only issues I can see you having is the fact its more of a horror mmorpg, on the plus side there are real investigative missions, you actually have to research and decode latin, well you dont have to really decode it but it helps, you will be googling secret world empolyee websites for there history or smilar things like supernatural investigations etc. It is a conspiracy game so keep that in mind. There are many modern weapons, rifle, shotgun, pistols, sword etc etc and there is a few magic styles like elementalism or chaos.

FFXIV;ARR gives you the option to switch between gamepad/keyboard+mouse at a button push, i've found it works best with logitech gamepads but i think it will work with just about any gamepad that has enough buttons on it.
I'm not sure if its been mentioned here already as I didn't read every post, but Guildwars 2 seems to also be fairly close to something you might enjoy. Open-world pve focused (pvp can be completely avoided) and end game content is one of the best and thorough I've been around. The community is also great, theres a few bad eggs, but in general everyone is pretty kind and gives advice/help when asked. The lore is also immersive and the different classes/builds are quite high up there in regards to amounts and diversity.
I hope you find what you're looking for Good luck!
lol should have said "disabled person looking for immersive game".......Once you mention the word woman the 99.9999% of male gamers on this site lose control of all their functions.
This post is mainly for those who have relatives (or are themselves) challenged in some physical way when playing MMOs.
For pure enjoyment's sake, FFXIV is already one of my favorite games. I really enjoy the graphics and animation. I'm currently a level-26 Arcanist; though, I'm 4-5 levels above the main story line and by doing every available dungeon repeatedly and tons of side quests, I've managed to keep my character well geared. The Main Story quests and side quests have not been difficult; however, for several of the Class quests (which must be done solo) I've generally had to make two or three tries to get them done -- more a matter of adjusting tactics than physical ineptitude. Some games stress me out with too much combat or being at too much constant risk. I haven't felt that with FFXIV. Also, my lack of confidence often has me skipping a good deal of group combat; again, not so with this game. The group finder mechanic is the best I've experienced, and the fact I've done many of the dungeons multiple times stands as testament.
Those who recommended FFXIV to me were spot on. I love it.
Here's what I'm doing to make the game easier:
1. Razer Naga mouse with hotbar icons assigned to mouse buttons (no macros yet).
2. Razer Blackwidow keyboard with hotbar icons assigned (mainly for potions, mount, and pet summons).
3. Voice recognition software (Tazti) -- so far using this for heals and mana regeneration spell.
4. Game running at highest monitor resolution -- all customizable text at largest size.
5. Ensuring that I stay 4-5 levels above mob/boss levels in quests (character geared to level). I'm doing this by taking most available side quests, leves, guildleves, dungeon opportunities, and FATEs. While this approach may not be for everybody, it helps me play more confidently, with less stress. For me, it's just more enjoyable when I'm not always on the verge of dying.
6. Arcanist has battle pets. The first is a dps pet that holds aggro at lower levels. The second pet (at level-15) is a tanking pet. Because I can be somewhat slow in reacting, these pets give me another margin of comfort. I use the dps pet in dungeons and the tanking pet when I'm soloing -- it has died a couple of times when I was overcome by multiple mobs, but I was able to re-summon quickly enough to save myself (I quite like this ability). I will be picking up Thaumaturge (sp?) as a second profession and hope I'm good enough with the game by then to get by without the pet.
I hope this helps anyone with challenges similar to mine. Again, thank you for all of your advice and suggestions.

I feel as though I'm leveling very quickly, though I'm making no special effort to do so. But it's okay -- perhaps the most intriguing aspect of FFXIV is a *single* character can learn all the classes, jobs, and crafting professions. That's very cool because as I get more comfortable I can learn more things without having to commence from scratch. At my core, I really enjoy being the party healer in dungeons -- something I've grown increasingly less comfortable with. Notwithstanding, I can see myself resuming this role in FFXIV. Even though I'm mainly a crafter, I haven't done that yet; so, there's a whole additional aspect to the game I've not tried yet. I think, for player longevity, the developers really thought this one through very well.
If there's just one thing I've struggled with, it's navigating amongst all the zones. Inter-zone, Inter-nation navigation insofar as following quests is not very intuitive and I'm using the FFXIV Wiki a lot more than I'd like. Eventually, I will have explored and attuned to most every location and this problem will abate.

A lot of players have that complaint , but it will start clicking soon , then it will be second nature ... I think i was in my mid to late 30s when i really started feeling comforatble with the navigation around all 3 nations ,,,,,
Ya know funny thing is , even when i was alost , i didnt mind just wandered around taking in the beautiful world they created...
I saw you didn't like how big the hotbars are. If you haven't figured it out yet, click the red circle button on the main UI entitled 'System'. Select the 'HUD' option (don't remember exact name). You'll be able to move, hide and scale all the UI elements.
Moving is just click/hold and drag.
To hide something, right click till it's name turns blue. If it's hidden right click till name is white.
To scale any element, select it and press ctrl+Home. Scale at it's lowest is 60%, max i believe is 140%. Just keep pressing ctrl+Home till you get the scale you like. Your chat window will display what scale it is every time you adjust it.
You can also right click most game windows (Menus, dressing room, dye window, inventories, timer windows, etc) and it'll give you a drop down where you can select the scale for that one window.
Not to mention there is a TON of customization options in the system configuration menu and in the character customization window.
Hope this helps, glad you've found and are enjoying FFXIV
Edit: Oh and as for navigating, it's a big world, but until you get the feel of things, you have your teleport window, but if you're unsure of where to go for a quest: open it in your journal and click map, which most of the time will open to the zone you need to be in. As long as you have the crystal in that zone attuned, you can click it on the map and it'll teleport you, instead of trying to figure out which one to use in the teleport window.
I've played around with the HUD and gotten it where I like it. I'm actually quite pleased with the degree of control the game provides -- just took me and my pea brain a bit to figure it all out.
And, yes, I'm using the full suite of navigation aids; it's just troublesome when some quests tell you to meet an NPC somewhere, but neglect to indicate what region, zone, or nation that "somewhere" is. Google-R-Us
@ Scorchien ...
So true about using getting lost as an excuse to explore. I managed to run through a level-50 area, aggroing mobs all along, and survived! What fun I'm not really crabbing about the navigation issue; it's no worse than other games and not all that frustrating.
I think this thread has run its course. Again, I appreciate all your help ever so much.

if you clk on the quest then the map option it will show you the region , and if you already have the waypoint just clik it on the map also and off you go

Everything from Star Wars to Warhammer/40k....
I would recommend The Repopulation. It's still in a development phase right now but offers quite a bit in terms of what you are looking for.
I am finding it really hard to recommend others to you right now because overall, this market of gaming is pretty disappointing.

Hello there!
I am currently playing echo of soul and it is quite fun if you're into pve dungeons. Quite generic but it can be enjoyable with the right people.
Btw, i also i have relapsing-remitting MS soo i can relate somewhat.

Update on FFXIV: 4th day
This post is mainly for those who have relatives (or are themselves) challenged in some physical way when playing MMOs.

@ Zinnekeys ...
Cheers!
if you clk on the quest then the map option it will show you the region , and if you already have the waypoint just clik it on the map also and off you go
