In terms of it being tested in the courts, yep, it probably will be. Fortunately, for developers like myself who keep the refund option open, it won't be a problem.

Thanks for taking the time to research, post, etc.

    Thanks for the reply.

I will continue to watch this area (crowdfunded games) with interest.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

It will defintely drop during Beta. When is undecided. We will, no matter what, be streaming more though during that time.

I know it's hard to coordinate with business hours etc but it would be really GREAT if you could do some streaming during the evening hours in the US!

We will. One of the reasons that we've been streaming at the hours that we do isn't just because it is convenient for us but also because European players/Backers of games such as ours have traditionally gotten the short end of the sitck due to time zone issues. So, I've tried to make up for it by picking times, especially 3PM since the European players are home, our east coast folks' day is winding down and the west coast folks are at lunch.

Once we get into Beta we will change our schedule a bit in terms of live streaming stuff to balance it out.

@Slapshot1188:  Are you wanting to watch the live streams simply to participate/ask questions? Otherwise, you can re-watch all of the streams on Twitch at any time (or even via Youtube). That's another great thing about this game...all the information you could want is readily available!

You may already know this, the reason I mention it is because I've seen a few people that were unaware you could rewatch streams on Twitch. Matter of fact, on Friday, I saw two viewers who popped in late to the Q&A, that mentioned their disappointment in chat. Until I mentioned it in chat, neither realized they could rewatch the stream in its entirety simply by clicking on the 'Past Broadcasts' link under the CityStateGames profile page.

You can go there right now and watch any of the past broadcasts for Camelot Unchained!

    Hope that helps!

@MarkJacobs: Perhaps that is something to consider in the future. Allow players/fans the convienience of posting their questions via the CU forums, Twitter, ect. to be answered in a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly stream. That way those with conflicting schedules can still see their questions answered while watching the stream at a later time.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Preferably upload it to Youtube, because Twitch's past broadcasts are not exactly the best for watching it. This has been a problem for quite some time, but they've never really worked it out yet.

    Hey Timesplit,

I'm pretty sure most, if not all of the Twitch streams are indeed uploaded to Youtube, if I'm not mistaken.

Just a quick peek shows the Beta 1 Delay Annoucement along with the Q&A. :)

But I do agree, as sometimes Twitch can be a bit wonky!

You see to many games getting released to early.  I would rather have them take the time and put out a quality product.  CU delaying beta for the reasons givin is a positive for me.  It shows that they care about the game itself, not just the subscription fees they would get if they released it on the original date.

Two questions at Marc (I hope you still follow MMORPG)

"considering the level and quality of programming we were expecting to have from the new guy"

Did the guy you hired mentioned in the comment seem to be more than he actually  is (aka overestimating skills) or was the work just more complex than he expected? No name-shame of course, just wondering if your hireing ads might not include all the crazy stuff you go for ; )

Also about the "we work with Nvidia" comment, does that mean

A: you abandon AMD completly aka "a fury x2 will have sucky FPS"

B: your game will run on Nvidia better than on AMD (*cough* latest Batman with 20 frame on 980 * cough*)

C: none of the above please explain. edit: pretty please with a cherry on top. (also edited: adds-> ads)

Yep, I'm still here! And yes, I still follow MMORPG. I may spend most of my time on our own Forums and MOP but I do read MMORPG and I have a positive affection for some of the folks here on staff and on the forums. As to your questions:

    1) Did the guy you hired mentioned in the comment seem to be more than he actually  is (aka overestimating skills) or was the work just more complex than he expected? No name-shame of course, just wondering if your hireing ads might not include all the crazy stuff you go for ; )

Nah, he is a bright guy and a talented programmer. I have to take him at his word that he just received an offer that he couldn't turn down. And in terms of our hiring process, yeah, we flew him out here and he/we spent a lot of time talking. I think he knew exactly what he was getting into before he accepted our offer.

Also about the "we work with Nvidia" comment, does that mean

A: you abandon AMD completly aka "a fury x2 will have sucky FPS"

B: your game will run on Nvidia better than on AMD (*cough* latest Batman with 20 frame on 980 * cough*)

    How about

C: We will do our best to make sure that all of our Backers/players who are using cards that meet our specs can play our game well. We will not abandon AMD cards and, to their credit, Nvidia has not asked/hinted/winked/etc. that we should do that.

We can't focus on both at once and Nvidia's PhysX tech and our long-term relationship with some of the folks there made them the best choice for us. FYI, we actually investigated Havok first.

And the cherry was unnecessary but I do like cherries. :)

Thank you for the reply. And weeeeha! that you are still here :D I'm kind of sorry to post here instead of your forum but  here more ppl outside the community might read it. And no offence or anything ( you already have my money.... please dont spent it on coke and hookers or at least promise to spend it on pure coke and high priced hookers *wink*  guess that positive thing about MMORPG might  have taken a hit right now ^^ )

About the new guy ". I have to take him at his word that he just received an offer that he couldn't turn down."

Come on... we all know how this went *deepcough*( "I make him an offer he cannot refue!) how could anyone refuse a job offer by this project? Even an idiot assembler coder like me would cut off his right arm to work for this game. If the guy ever played any PvP game you didn't leave him a chance to refuse :D And no matter how much you deny it, the guy was never able to understand your BSC ideas because ... they are BSC in todays MMORPG terms.

None the less good to know you make AMD work although Nvidia does have the better capabilities at the moment. Sorry for asking but did Nvidia truely never ask for any exclusive or favoring deal?

About the cherry, ( first heard the term in Farcry(last episode) and kind of liked it since then, who doesnt like cherries on top?) can someone please send some cherries or food containing cherries to the studio? I'd do it but they might go bad during the flight from EU to USA :D

I won't be giving his project any money, due to how Chris Roberts and RSI aka the Star Citizen game and my beloved WH40K: Eternal Crusade handled the money they received from us backers, and the current state as well as the trend of results, i.e. total 360' on what the game was when we backed it and what they later decided it would be (a shooter and not a MMORPG in the case of Eternal Crusade), and with Star Citizen a disproportionate amount of results when comparing the huge amounts of money they received and what has actually been accomplished.

Dont even get me started about SoA or most of the other kick starter/founders/early access games I have put money into.

I realize it is collective punishment, but I had to draw the line.

My apologies to Mark Jacobs, as its not his fault, but these other Devs and publishers who are giving early access, founders, and backers programs a bad reputation.

That's the major difference between all of those other crowd funded games and CU.  MJ has and has shown time and again that he will do what he says he's doing.  He doesn't set the bar so high that he can't reach it, instead of methodically plans out everything, and then steers the path.

If you look at all of their stretch goals, none of them added to the time to produce the game.  Some of them actually helped make it faster, being that some of those goals were to hire new staff.  Not a stretch goal for some shiny new digital space ship, which they would need to program and design new assets for etc.

CU is an exercise in how to do crowdfunding right.  Sadly all of those other crowd funded games you mentioned are real good about showing off new bling to keep the flow of money coming in.  So those other games get the majority of the crowd funding capital, and then leave a bad taste in backers mouths when they do a 180 on their "core principals".

I've been following Camelot Unchained since the beginning of the Kickstarter. I haven't once donated to the games I've been interested in on kickstarter, for good reasons ofcourse. Besides that I'm skeptical about every game and assume the worst. But after reading this and seeing just how confident and competent they are, I think I might just get on a hype train for a game, if just this once.

I'm sure that with perseverance this project will come true wonderfully.

The basis of the game seem really solid and the developers, honest and competent.

Time goes by so quickly and if you guys keep going forward, the current problems should soon be a distant memory

sorry but its very unfair to compare CU to SC.

while as humans we relate to bad experience the writing was on the wall about SC if people looked properly.

not going to go into detail but CU offers a refund policy and has made so much progress in such a short time.

clearly a project that wants to fiinish and bring a good mmo to a barren mmo world at present

I want to say here that this is my opinion.

Thanks for this illuminating interview with Mark Jacobs. At this point in development, I have no problem with what Mark has told us about the state of Camelot Unchained. It is my opinion, from what I have read and seen thus far, that this will be a wonderful experience going forward for many, especially those that played the original DAoC.

I really do want to see this project succeed. There are many here on this forum that. for years, have pleaded for a pvp-centric mmo that brings a challenging and fair pvp experience that group in this genre. CU possibly can be that game. I am not all that clear yet how the classes will flesh out as the upcoming beta eventually happens. We'll all find out soon, at least within the next year. The pvp group is one of the most vocal groups out there and have been for many years. They do deserve their game, and i support them and am hoping that finally, this will be their mmo!

Also, this week "we signed a senior server engineer" (starts working in September).

Yep, there was lots of good news delivered along with the bad. I could have spun things differently, it's not like I don't know how to do that, but I'd rather do things the right way even if it costs us some money, which, as expected, it already has. OTOH, it's worth it.

    Mark,

Keep doing the right thing. For every backer you lose, in the long run you will gain ten customers, for doing the right thing.

I'm heading over to your site to back you right now. Thank you for the communication and interaction. Much appreciated.

Gotta say, I'm pretty much over kickstarters...it seemed so cool at first, but I'm starting to see that the companies that go to kickstarters are companies that have a vision, but that's it.  Go look at all the eta's and launch dates of all the kickstarters...almost every single one says, Q4 2015...it's rather ammusing tbh.  I don't think even one kickstarter mmo has officially launched has it?  I think the reason a company needs to resort to kickstarter a program is because they couldn't get a loan or a venture capitalist group to fund them, because all they bring to the table is a vision...but no teeth to put the final product together.

So yea...I am done backing kickstarters.

Is there any place you can find more information on their plans for healing? All i've heard so far is that there will be healing.

Most information I have off the top of my head is mostly from official sources through their Twitch vids, interviews and what not so hard to pin point information. Head to their main site and especially the wiki to see if source is listed for specifics.

My basic knowledge is that healers are very much the only primary source of healing. They will be the definition of a healer class. There may be the odd self heal ability for some classes that makes sense by design but Mark as even recently stated (within last 2 Twitch feeds) that class archetypes are founded strongly in role. A tank is a tank because it has tank abilities, etc.

Now everything is designed and balanced for RvR so every single ability functions for the purpose. Because it is RvR it allows even greater diversity in roles albeit narrow in each scope. I imagine all tanks will be primarily melee but perhaps we'll see differences (I imagine you'd look to WAR to see RvR tank abilities. Likely group and character mitigation, pulls, swaps, buffs etc). Healers are healers and was stated clearly. NO other class can take their role. DPS varies depending on if it's ranged, melee, archery, magic or even hybrids. Due to their core differences they also will have RvR specific specialties like archers being great scouts so utility likely varies greatly outside of their primary dps role. Mark also stated that support is a 4th archetype fully supported. This will not be healing as stated but other RvR and group utility and function.

Sadly class information is very limited currently but recently revealed that greatly expanded class information will be revealed likely by end of summer.

So yea...I am done backing kickstarters.

Cant argue with you on that, but you forget that Any venture capitalist wont put their money into a MMORPG with the massive failures lately of them. The risk vs. Potential reward is way to small. Especially since mobile games like game of war or clash of clan draws in a huge load more of money when you consider investment and return of investment. Nah.... I highly doubt one will see many AAA MMORPGs in the future that hasn't been kickstarted.

Hello Mr. Jacobs first I would like to thank you for the many many years of fun DAOC has given me I played heavily off and on till 2014. I also loved WAR some people didn't but to me the combat and rvr was still better than anything else I have played on the current market. I would still be bouncing back and forth between DAOC and WAR but WAR died and DAOC unfortunately for me has faded. So I wish you the best of luck and am rooting hard for CU to be a success. I know my family will be playing it so please please take your time and deliver us to the promise land once again :)

To start I wanted to say that I have been playing DAoC since beta, and LOVE the work that was done there. Which brings me to my current suggestion/questioning.

I understand that you are making a RvR focused MMO, but why not reinvent DAoC? DAoC did NOT get the attention it deserved due to the fact that mmo gaming at that time was not mainstream and was not known to the majority of the general public. This bring me to my biggest issue here: PvE (Dungeons) Openworld.

What drove me and my friends back in 2001 to play DAoC was the open world PvE aspect of it. The sheer brilliance of the lands and dungeons that you created. It allowed for adventure, and gave me that "golden age of gaming" feel.

So, I ask, nay BEG of you, please incorporate that wonderful fantasy PvE that was in DAoC. Please do not make it a themepark quest-based.... An open-world MMO done DAoC -style is what this industry NEEDS.

And do not get me wrong, the RvR was hella fun, but the PvE is where I met my friends. Consider this.

Wrong game, I am afraid. PvE aside (no dungeon bosses here etc.), Mark clearly stated many times that this is not DaOC 2. They are creating a brand new game, not recreating the old ones.

For example I would - together with some others - like to see Warhammer recreated, but it won`t happen and I am perfectly fine with that. I`ll be happy if CU even just takes few little details from WAR, such as some funny class mechanics or, say, Goblins.

     W...aaagh?
