I agree that team size is irrelevant. A game is good, bad, or somewhere in between. Because it's made by 1 person or 1000 people does not change that fact. To me honestly I do not see the graphics as a huge detractor. Other than the cave (which is really bad) I actually think they are OK. Nothing to brag about, but not the worst I have seen. Maybe the game is just so much fun that I simply do not see the issue as others do. I personally think guild functionality is a much higher need than graphics, but that's just my perspective.
Anyhow, they have said that the main point of this Kickstarter was to hire some artists to help upgrade the graphics, so if that is really the major negative for many, this should be good news!
Given that this is a pre-alpha, and FREE at this point in time (yes you will have to eventually buy it at release) I am really impressed. Other games are claiming to be launched, charging box fees + subs + cash shop for games that are less further developed than this free pre-alpha.

Definitely worth checking out, a lot of really good core features in the game that are hard to come by these days. Current graphics aren't too bad on the eyes (physical sense, yeah they're dated) either even for place holder graphics, some games are too rich and end up only able to play for an hour or so before I get massive headaches. Kinda hoping they don't go to crazy when they update them although the hi-res pig isn't too bad if that's what they plan on over hauling the graphics with.
I think what would help most is for them to do up a concept art for what they have in mind for the finish product as that seems to be one of the bigger complaints.
The Devs did a QnA and pretty much said there will be improvements to the graphics. We must remember, this game is in PRE-alpha. Right now, they're just hammering down the mechanics and establishing the bare-bones skeleton of gameplay before they even bother with polish. One of the Devs has even said that, despite there being some 68 odd skills to level in game right now, it's not even half of what he plans to add in the long run.
Basically people need to stop judging the game based on its current state, and realize that the only reason we're even able to play it now if because the devs want to create a game with our real-time input, instead of making it behind closed doors, throwing it out to us, and hoping we like it. That's what every other game is doing right now. We just never see current release games in their most primitive state, the way we're seeing this one.
Project Gorgon, I love you, the little MMO that could. After seeing the Pathfinder team size and money spent on that game I can only laugh at how much Gorgon has done and done right with only 2 people. In all honesty, the graphics are the least of my concern at this stage, although the starter cave is quite bad, outside it looks quite decent, even with a lot of it being placeholder.

Most of our team has backed Gorgon, and support them in their efforts. The world needs more old-school, group-based MMORPGs.
Yes, the graphics are pretty horrific....but the game itself functions, it functions well, it has some interesting mechanics, and the whole purpose of their Kickstarter was to improve the graphical side of things. There's a lot you can do with the Unity engine, and I'm confident that they'll be able to significantly improve the look of the game with original art assets and a few good artists.
We're rooting for them! Was great to see their third Kickstarter finally get the traction it deserved.
Disregard. I thought it was a home made engine. Found reference to them using Unity.

I liked 50% of the game and disliked 50%...Its not enough to get me to pay for it...It had too many issues that I just cant be sure are not going to be there later......
WOW gets criticized for "Kill 10 rats" quests, and I think doesn't have a single rat-killing quest in the entire game.
Gorgon gets praised for being different from WOW, and in the gameplay video I watched the second quest the guy did was to kill rats.
I think its more praised for the amount of freedom you get as a player. Being able to decide how you progress or what you do next without being on rails. For example in wow if you are low level and you want to quest you are stuck questing in zones appropriate to your level. in Gorgon i can go to the max level zone and pick up quests from the npcs np. yeah ill have trouble doing it but its an option.
There is the semi-perma-curses that add a layer of excitement to the game. Like "ooooh should i even attempt to kill that boss and risk having my pockets gorged? " or "i will risk turning into a deer to be able to loot the grand chest behind the boss".
There is some generic quests like get X amount of Y or kill A amount of B, but there is also cool quests that are kind of hidden.
SPOILER ALERT: For example in the cave that you spawn in there is a guy who is not feeling to well. He is very grumpy and wont let you touch his book. Nothing is told to you except that you have to cheer him up. Later you can find someone who can craft you a batch of pick me up juice or craft it yourself and give it to him. Then you will be allowed to unlock the secrets of his book he did not let you read when he was grumpy.
Also there is not a single trash item in the game that i have found. Every item is either used in multiple crafting recipes from a plethora of different crafting professions. And the crafting system is deep enough that it isnt plagued as much by the dull tier systems that other games like wow have in place. Items crafted can remain useful throughout the game and items that are required by lower level crafting recipes are often used by higher level recipes as well. Not to mention that there is an interdependence between crafting skills that just makes it that much more fun to get into.
I can go on and on about things that this game is doing right(at least in my eyes) but i will just end it there. The game is definitely not for everyone in the sense that some might find it less casual than they are used to but once you get into it it will suck you in. You will have to give it an hour of play in the very least to see if its something you might enjoy playing
I played this game a couple of years ago and went back a few days ago. When I started it was literally colored skin for armor and green hills with low res objects scattered around. To see what their tiny dev team (two people - husband and wife) has done absolutely amazed me. My point being that with little to no funding and a small dev team they not only added new skills, brand new zones, items, and dungeons, but they also managed to drastically improve the graphics. I believe they will turns a few heads, especially since their kickstarter raised 50k (with a goal of only 20k). I've played other games in early alpha, which is what PG is in, and I've not seen such rapid development.
If the graphics are the only thing people hate about this game then I'm very.. very excited for it. For me personally, the graphics could remain the same and I'd play it. What good is a good looking game that has no depth or immersion? You end up sitting in a nice looking... "plot" with nothing to do, and I think we all know how well that's worked out.

This, so much this. It is astounding what these people have done regardless whether or not the game is your cup of tea. I am very exited to see what the future holds for P:G.

Yes it's great that a small team actually puts out a FULLY PLAYABLE version of their game that you can join and TEST FOR FREE. That's why I and many others have supported them. They have experience and they have a product to show.

Project Gorgon is definitely a good mmorpg so far that I have seen for myself. I have only really noticed 2 issues so far :
The combat is a little clunky, as far as creatures seeming to run through you at the beginning of combat, but it's definitely not a deal breaker.
The overview map once you reach the outside world, seems to not be distinguishing enough (I would imagine it should be more of a 3 dimensional satellite view such as you can see on google maps, or at least that is what I think they are shooting for), as even the castle-town and cave you come from do not seem to stand out much when compared to the rest of the map. Looks too, not sure what word to use, maybe "blended?"
That reminds me, what is all this nonsense with "the starting cave not looking good"? I happened to like the way the starting cave looks already, and how it is designed more like a cave than plenty of other games' ridged flat floored caves.
Why does this not have its own forum? Anyways. The game shocked me with how good it is so far. Graphics aren't great, but the features and stuff that it has in it already. Pretty refreshing.

Makes no sense to me why some games have forums and others don't. Games like Asheron's call that still have forums but are not active at all. Yet this game that is way more active has no forums? Silly.

yeah. Not that I think there's a bias or anything. Perhaps it just hasn't hit their radar.
