Central Tyria (Core) Maps & Content:
Starter maps only until character reaches level 10
Lion’s Arch unlocked for each character at level 35
Thats from the official page, what does it mean? Do you unlock the rest of Tyria beside LA at lvl 10 or what?
It's not quite fair for players, who had bought Gw2 Core game. They made Gw2 core f2p and they didn't gave players who bought the game anything for it. I feel cheated right now. In addition, we have buy expansion too, if we want to more content.
Lets see.
3 years of game. 3 extra character slots. 10 extra bag slots.(2 bags x 5 character slots). 1 extra character slot if you pre-purchase HOT. No requirement for app or sms security. No chat restrictions. No mail restrictions. No TP restrictions. Access to guild vaults. Log in rewards. Ability to change in game gold to gems. 1 veteran reward outfit. 2 Living World Seasons.
The play for free is basically an extend trial for the PvE side and a way to attract PvP players that are used to play free games like LOL and DOTA.
You seem to have gotten a lot more out of it than I did. The living world actually managed to make the game worse, not better. You say extra bag and character slots, but neglect to mention that even if you purchased the game you were expected to purchase more of those. That leaves your list looking awfully puny. With the limited content GW2 had, getting earlier access to it alone is not worthwhile
Companies do stuff like this all the time, but the big difference is that they compensate the people that paid by giving something back to them.
I feel like this is just the next slap in the face to their existing customers that ANet is becoming known for
Whoever was in charge when they were designing GW2 must have stepped down, because since release it has been nothing but terrible decisions.
It seems to me that the company that gave us balanced PvP in GW1 and thought up a massive living world of events has been replaced with a company that can't be trusted to do anything right. It seems like terrible mismanagement at every opportunity. This company really needs new people in charge, unfortunately I think it is too late to salvage anything of where GW2 has gone
I hope they fire the idiots that have been taking this company the wrong way, and fix the sinking GW2 ship to prove me wrong. It is such a great base game, that just had such unbelievably terrible post launch designing. It really deserves better.
Im in ESO now and as long as they dont pull any dirty tricks I will be there awhile but I dont think I'll ever come back to GW2. First I wont pay the full AAA game price for an expansion and second I get the impression as they plan to release more raids with updates afterwards if its anything like the LS seasons waiting for a cheaper HoT will just mean more money to pay for the updates. This locks me out completely. <br> What Anet have done is give the two fingers to veterans who don't want to pay for HoT at that price. Why? Because if the updates are paid it means vets cant win by holding off from buying HoT cheaper later and by allowing ftp Anet can bank on converting ftp players to buy to pay for HoT making up for the unhappy veterans they lose. Very cynical and manipulative.
So far I haven't noticed any more bots than usual, doesn't mean it won't happen though. I don't really care about new players.... I don't really know how I should feel about it -- or what they're really trying to accomplish.
The design as a whole is more conducive to having tons of players, but few activities change any one persons experience. I see tons of people in game.. I just finished my second world completion, and in every zone I ran into people, and in some cases where I thought I wouldn't see anyone -- I saw a lot of people. Or a champion train running by which you don't really see much of.. but I also don't find myself in those zones a lot.
You don't really have to worry about kill stealing or node stealing for gatherers. Most dungeons you just hop in, and half the time you don't really need to know what you're doing.
There could be 2 million new players, and as long as I don't get gold chat spam, I really wouldn't be affected either way. I'm more worried about their other changes. What will they do with balance? Are they changing conditions again? What about the new tiers and legendaries? The fastest way to get me to leave the game is to not have any consistency. I just worked hard to create a new build and get gear for it. I'm ready to own a legendary and have all the items I need, but what will change when things go live? Will it even be worth it?
Guess I'll have to wait and see before I decide if its worth staying.

Unlike you, FTPers can't exchange gold gems. You can. A bag slot is around 50-60 gold, which you can farm within a day if you know how to play the trading post. If you don't it might take you 2-3 days.
Whether living world is good or bad is in the eyes of the beholder. I enjoyed them both. I still play the new maps. For me and my boyfriend, certainly its a win for the 60 euro we dropped 3 years ago.
And as others have stated, I too haven't been spammed yet by bots. And I went to the starter zones to help the newbies. Some of them were running thieves with shortbow as main weapon. I'm not a religious person but that's kind of an abomination :P had to "fix" it!

Sinking ship? In what way?
Not financially that is for sure.

Big box sale quarters aside (3Q12 and 4Q12) the game revenue has been quite stable.
So I don't foresee any "idiots" being fired in the near future.
