been in development for years, no reviews.  There is no smoke without fire, no good game where no player has bothered to review.  This is another game where people make a choice, pay before you know a product is quality and risk funding this policy of publishing early under the pretense of being in 'alpha/beta' etc or wait until the the evidence is clear and let the publishers work for the money.  Alpha/bet should be free, it should be about testing.

From what I understand, this game will be class based. How well with that work in a setting that seems so much against pre-defined roles? Have not the developers read the books?

Should of been based on Memory, Sorrow & Thorn.

Far more importantly based on how these forums and the rest of the internet usually work we haven't heard tons of people crying that the game sucks. So I'd say on the whole no news is probably good news.
Checked out their steam page, huge problems with their servers and lots of people ending up stuck. Right now they do server maintenance for four hours.

The reason why tons of people aren't crying about the game is that not many bought it, and why should they. Its a game that has no hype whatsoever.

Just purchased the most expensive pack under the:

Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness

    (declined)

That, for those who don't know, is a literary reference combined with a chess reference.

If you are fool enough to believe that Terry Pratchett was other than a literary genius all I can do is pity you, and as for chess, it's a fine game, just so long as you don't try to screw it up with 3D versions, you disrespectful modern day scoundrels!

In any case, the servers are still taking a hammering, so I can't do much without ending up mystically booted back to queue.

Until future reference (with upcoming updated posts on this forum), I can't recommend it yet, because it's either a ripoff based on a promising failure that was purchased by unscrupulous people determined to have your money for nothing, or it's a promising masterpiece worth your while (and your money).

And no way to know which for now. Stay tuned. I took the gamble, you take the (doubtless biased, possibly drunken, and definitely strange) advice. For free!

I got in, played a tiny bit, it is a rough start. I am still at the end of the tutorial so experience is extremely limited.

    - It looks good, not awesome but solid. Their art direction resonates with me although I have not read the books so I can not compare. It also runs great on medium hardware.
    - There is no subscription. The game offers 3 editions to buy and then you can just play forever.
    - There is a cashshop that sells vanity items ONLY. Prices seem okay for now but that might change. I am very happy with this.
    - They think about selling DLC but I am not sure how, maybe a bit like TSW, tbc.
    - Initially there are 4 classes but they think about adding more. I can not comment on build diversity but you have 3 weapon slots to freely switch between in combat, 2 abilities you need to charge through attacking and an ability bar with 8 slots.
    - Combat is NOT action based like Tera. It uses softlocking so no tabbing enemies involved but it is much slower then the usual action game. It feels a bit more traditional then it looks.

So far this game does not perform worse then some of the AAA titles I have tested in beta ( as in, actually tested in a proper beta). The zones it uses are supposed to be quite big although so far it is all pretty linear. That is to be expected in a tutorial I guess so I'll see how itopens up. I am VERY curious about the diversity of the worlds in the game, I can only judge screenshots for now but they look impressive.

I hope to get in a bit more the coming week to see what it has to offer. I have seen no crafting or social structures besides a mail system so no clue about guilds, trading etc. yet. I'll post a bit more when I have played a few more hours.

    /Cheers,

Hmm, based on what I have seen they are not really living up to the scope and or scale of the book series at all. The combat feels like it has one foot in each grave for bad actions combat or bad FF style combat. It just feels clunky and not smooth to me.

As for the classes, crap, i mean sure they are classes, games have classes sometimes, but based on the books there should be none. The books had sci fi, fantasy, fiction and just an immense amount of variation to it. Locking people into pedantic classes just seems limiting for this kind of game. I mean what am I going to be a freakin wizard fighting cyborgs on a space station at some point?

Remove the classes, make it gear bases abilities/classes like ff14 or just skill based like elder scrolls, create some form of random generation for your maps, static maps for a game on this premise is kind of retarded.

All in all it just rings of a shallow abomination of the books. Pretty standardized everything, nothing really new or innovative, despite the fact that the very premise should make it new and innovative, it does not.

I hope they give it A LOT of love during early access, as  it stands it wont last 6m after launch, its just too plain jane and shallow so far.

I think the player should be rewarded for testing Alpha/Beta for the developer not the other way around.

Played off and on a few hours. Having trouble loading back into areas.

So far it's also very hard on my laptop, even on lowest settings.

But it is a pretty game and the concept is fresh.

I'm a bit annoyed at the questing already, though. Too much NPC lackeying for my tastes. Hope that improves later.

I picked it up being a fan of the book series.  I've played it for a few hours already.  I am kind of disappointed though.  There are a slew of bugs as expected though.  Two notable bugs I have seen already are invisible platforms and abandoning quests.

On the invisible platform, I walked out to transport and the platform disappeared and I fell and died.  When I respawned, most of the area was level 50 and 60 mobs that one shotted me.

On the abandoning quests bug, a quest bugged out so I abandoned it to try to it over.   I wasn't able to get a new quest though and there no other places that I have found that offers quests.

I have hopes for this game though, hopefully through all of the server maintenance, it'll fix some of the stuff.

Played for about ninety minutes, got a refund. It's just not that good. Graphics are fine (but run badly), combat has no weight to it, story makes no sense, and it's all around just not fun to play. I will say it has some potential, but right now it's just not worth the asking price.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
