What five features should MMORPGs borrow from other genres?

Here are mine (and yes, some of these may have been seen to a limited extent in individual MMORPGs): -

  • The FPS/TPS cover mechanic. By this I do not mean that characters should be locked into cover (as seen in the likes of Gears of War etc) but that there should be the ability to use the environment as cover.
  • Racing. In most MMOs we have mounts; haven't you ever wanted to race a super-charged version against your fellow players?
  • Single Player RPG stories. If a MMORPG has to include premade stories... then please put some effort into them.
  • Again from FPS/ TPS- hit boxes that reward accuracy, and specifically HEAD SHOTS!
  • The ability to fully explore the environment in most action games, and that includes the ability to climb walls, to jump between platforms, to swing from whatever I might be able to swing from, or simply to climb fences.
They are mine, please share you own.

WHAT I WANT TO SEE FROM CONSOLE GAMES PUT IN MMO'S (idk what u mean by genre exactly)

I liked Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen's pawn swapping system and would like to see it in an mmo.  Not sure if Dragon's Dogma Online will keep it the same way the console game did.

I liked Fable's path choosing to be good or evil and it actually changed your appearance.

I liked Assassin Creed and Dragon's Dogma's roof top jumping.  There is a ton of jumping puzzles in the mmo GW2 I'm playing now and I can't do a single one of them because my PC is to slow.  I hit the space bar and my character just stands there doing nothing - type of lag from my old OS Windows Vista I guess.  But it would be wonderful if my character could actually jump up high or double and triple jump, climb, swing, etc.

Okay don't get angry but I like romantic content.  I understand children play mmo's so there are limits here.  But it would be nice to have an adult uncensored account and cut scenes like in Inquisition.

I would like to see a mature looking environment like in Skyrim.  I get tired of cartoon coloring in my mmo's.  Also liked Skyrim's marry-able npcs, looting, crafting, and house construction from Hearthfire.

    Nothing.

I'd like MMORPGs to get back what they do best: Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing.  Community, random numbers instead of physical clicks, the possibility to fail, the encouragement (NOT forcing) of grouping, the inclusion of non-combat fetures, and most importantly, living worlds that characters can feel like they live in.

The reason there are genres is so that players get an idea of what games are like.  Why would I want FPS type combat in a genre that sucks at it?  Why would I want a heavily story driven game in a genre that does not do "epic stories" justice (all 1,000,00 players are the savior) like single player games can do?

I think it'd be interesting to see a tower defense like mode for a raid(where most of your power comes from other things).

Stealth that works like stealth games(splinter cell/similar)

Take some of the open world design idea's from Skyrim.   Mostly what I like the most is that not all content is actually designed to be useable/interesting to ALL players.

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

Re: Dragon's Dogma pawns: You create a main pawn which is yours to keep, and can also hire the pawns of other people as support pawns just like in DD. Crafting is also done via your main pawn with the ability to add support paws into the crafting process for better results, though the support pawns are limited to X number of crafting attempts before you need to replace them with others.

I've been playing JP version and wrote a bit of a review / comparison on how it stacks up against the original game. To sum it up... Yes it is very much Dragon's Dogma with online play added. They didn't water it down and remove a bunch of things in the conversion from SP to MMO like we saw them do with TESO.
