Not quite sure why there is so much WOW haters in this forum.
So a bunch of people saying best is subjective means they are "haters". Ok nice to know.
When people say WOW is the best they usually take into account the over all success, longevity and the staying power. Those things are not subjective but a fact.
Wildstar raids are harder than WoW raids. Anyone want to dispute this?
Wildstar simply does not have a competitive enough raiding community to make any sort of meaningful statement about its difficulty level. I would guess, and this is speculation I admit, that WoW raiding is generally viewed by legitimate progression raiders as the most difficult raiding at least at the highest settings (ie current gen mythic raids).
Of course much of this is owing to the fact that raiding is out-of-fashion at the moment, and usually not a focus--if not altogether omitted--in current game development.
Clarification: talking MMORPGs; probably only western ones.

Generally viewed by legitimate progression raiders
Which are also wow fans.
I'm sure you didn't intend it, but your reply in context with the quote you isolated sounds like you're saying 'legitimate progression raiders are also WoW fans.'
Furthermore, I'd suggest that it's a mistake conflating prevalence of one-shot mechanics with difficulty (replying to your former post). But don't take that as a contradiction of TSW difficulty as I have no knowledge on that. You could be right.
I have to agree with Torval. There are different MMOs for the same reason there are different flavors of sandwich. Sure, a lot of people like PB & J, but others like Egg Salad, or even Tuna fish.
My point is there's plenty of room for several different MMOs, some more popular than others, and each with different themes, etc...
DMKano just stop, games can't be compared with colors, especially MMORPG's. MMORPG's are like carved sculptures, you can easily see which one is carved by a child or some amateur and then you can truly see its perfection when it's carved by a true artist.
Even with colors blue, green, red, pink etc are prefered over grey and brown, so just stop. If "fun" and "best" was truly subjective then developers would be just making 432425242324 of pang and tetris sequels today because they are also games that offer strategy, thinking, action, competition and so forth, while costing hundreds if $ or less to produce.
Lmao what are you on about? Obviously this went over your head, he's not saying you must find the best color to find the best mmo... Are you serious? He's saying there is no best mmo, just like there's no best color. Best is what YOU make of it, for me the best mmo was DAoC, it came before WoW and pioneered tri faction rvr. For you the best might be WoW, for some it might be any other game.
Edit: Also I'm not sure you know what subjective means, it means it's one person's opinion on which is best, it varies with every individual, the fact that it is subjective is exactly why all games cannot be made the same, and why no one mmo can be considered the "best". You can say most popular sure, as that's a measurable metric, but you can not measure "best" in a non biased manner.
You can't measure the relative strength of a game objectively if you look at the whole, you need to break it down and then you can consider majority opinion, e.g:
Best graphics Most content released/value for money Best battleground pvp Best housing Best open world pvp Best crafting Best levelling experience Best balancing Best instances. Best raids Best skill trees
So if we evaluate wow and the other top 5 with this list would we see wow be the overall best? - not even remotely a close call I would guess, probably last I would guess.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
This is a pointless discussion that is like watching two bald men fighting over a wig. In terms of gameplay and graphics, MMOs are way behind other games that it's embarrassing. People are ready to move on from Arkham style combat whilst 90% MMOs are still using hotbars. Xbox 360 level graphics are considered "good" for MMOs while the rest of the world is nitpicking on the Witcher 3 graphical performance.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good MMO. But face it, we play for the social experience, challenge and immersion. Not for the gameplay or graphics.
It's difficult to imagine anyone considering a decade-old title as "best" at anything. Look around, every title that old is well past its prime (yep, even EVE).
That would make an interesting topic of its own: Is it possible for a individual members of a fan base to continue liking something they've overindulged in for years (a decade)?

Is the tolerance-level a normal curve?
Since I think many older MMOs did things better their more modern brethren, and in the case of EVE continue to do so.
As to a tolerance level, many people have enjoyed playing golf, tennis or bridge for 60 and more years.
If something is good, you can enjoy it for a lifetime.

You made the comparison in an attempt to say just because they have the most customers or make the most money doesn't mean they are the best. It's a very common failed analogy.
This is a game I quit on and off. This last expansion was garbage and they need Legion to be good, they really do.
But with how easy it is to get hype and funding for a MMO nowadays, there's no reason WoW should be the best MMORPG out right now. That is extremely sad for all other developers, seriously.
I just wanted to say that. Stop trying to make quick money and releasing garbage games, and make something GOOD. Also, stop supporting garbage games. Okay the rant's over.
>.>
"How easy it is to get hype and funding"??? Umm what?
WoW is best acording to what criteria exactly?
There is no reason why WoW should be the best because it's not the best - certainly not for me.
Destiny has more active players than WoW (no I don't play Destiny either).
League of Legends has more players than most games combined - so it's the best game on earth?
Silly way of proclaiming best
LoL is not an MMO and Destiny is a FPS so not sure where you going with that. As far as an MMOrpg goes, WoW is still king.

Definitely still the most popular, but not "the best" in my or others opinions.
The really great thing about this argument is we can't be proven wrong.

In a gaming market populated with 13yo kids fresh off a bad call of duty match, I guess it is not surprise that WoW is the most popular. But as for "Best" not even remotely close. Having the most users with a game like WoW just implies that the industry is full of shallow, profiteering developers and even shallower consumers.

Forums logic indeed
Also if you say something positive about a company or product that someone doesn't like - fanboy / shill / employee are the only possibilities.
I mean there can only be 2 types of people right?

Depends. If you praise only one company or a game continuously as if she was your mother. Refuse to see any shortcomings or flaw in it while make sure to point out flaws in every other MMO in existence. It is all about balance and some people are too transparent with their agenda.

Well apparently there are some shallow minded posters who think they are so much better then others who don't share their distorted view on this site...

In wow, very rarely are these true even in raids. they give people chance after chance when standing in the fire for example.
When wow tried to emulate this in Cata the overwhelming response from the community was: "We would like easy mode please."
