Good to see that the game is still going forward. If you start right now, you probably won't ever see all the content that is available.
The game contains just SO much stuff and so many systems and mechanics -unlike WoW, where even after 10 years you can still go through the content in a few weeks.
But then a few years ago, EQ2 suddenly started aging hard for me. Graphics, animations, the bad lighting etc. -every time i went back, this was more of a turn off to me.
I would still jump in now and then, if the game wasn't cash shopped to death.

unfortunately I'm going to have to say these updates come at a time in which they are attempting to keep a hold on the few people they have left who play the game. This game is a classic bully to those who don't subscribe to their edicts, but those who do are treated like royalty. Signs of this are easy to see, as well. -Locked content -Experience reduction -Item cost increase -Popups in-game reminding you to subscribe every time you zone. -The game hijacking your browser to open up a page telling you to subscribe when you log off -Gear limitations when unsubscribed that makes it impossible to play some content at all And that's just the tip of the iceburg.
