Wildstar surprisingly doesn't suck...

I never really had any interest in the game.  I thought they had way over done it with the anime style races.  I also generally prefer Sandbox type games.  But since it was F2P now, and SCL had no Headstart this weekend I figured that I would load it up.

What I found was a surprisingly playable game, that killed a weekend for me (getting to level 10).

Now I think eventually it will wear out it's shininess but as a F2P time killer I thought it was well worth the download.  Yes, there are plenty of annoying things like all the telegraph areas and shapes and generally they just throw so much at you to do that it's hard to keep track of WHY I am doing quest X, Y or Z as opposed to just following the arrow from point to point but that's part and parcel for Themepark games nowadays.

I was also surprised at how solo friendly the early parts are.  I had believed that this was a throwback to the "harder" days of yore but I have done everything solo so far, including the first dungeon.  Apparently they scale based on # of players.  Again, if I were really into the game that might bother me, but as a time killer, exactly what I needed.

YMMV

I keep trying but can't seem to get into it, glad everyone else is having fun though.  Not giving up yet.

Same problem here.  It is not even the launch issues.  Many games have these issues and that is not my problem.  Really hate the Looney Tunes artstlye and not a fan of the combat.  The story and quests are fun enough, however.  I don't like how tight and cramped the zones feel.  I wish they were twice the size and things were spread out more. I'll keep playing and maybe my opinion will change.

As to the telegraphs, you can modify them to your liking, make them more transparent or disable them altogether.
I always had my own telegraphs off. I also have my gamma set to 1.40 to make the game look less bleak.

    Have fun!

Yeah i'm in the same spot....IT just feels like every other MMO made the last ten years.....Run from quest hub to quest hub

Wildstar is a very well made games. Far from perfect, but the amount of content/systems it had in it from the get go is much more than most other MMORPGs out there. And lets get the art style right, it's very Pixarish. Not Anime (too many games to mention) or Looney Tunes (no games with this art style come to mind)
The game does have problems with zone/quest flow, and bugs, oh the bugs, more persistent than cockroaches.

The game just isn't for everyone, but that's pretty much every game.

I really enjoyed it when it came out. It's nothing new - the same old formula that has been done a thousand times. But it is done properly. You can see they made an effort to make the gameplay fun, not just mindlessly throwing together systems they saw in other games.

Yeh, I agree as well.  The combat isn't really for me though I can see how it can appeal and at least it's somewhat different than most.  However, the quest hubs filled with kill X of Y or interact with item A for B amount of times has just been done so many times in other games.  At least I was able to try the game again without any extra costs so no harm, no foul.

I'm enjoying the game a lot. Only thing i don't like are those voice over whenever i do a ' double kill' . Theres probably a way to turn this off but did not have the time yet to look for it.

It's a good game for what it is. Nothing really revolutionary, modern questing with arrows and other means of convinience, etc. I thought i finally found a class that makes playing fun, until i bumped into this quest that seems to be 'a low gravity platform jumper with collectable diamonds'.

At this point i let the game go.

Tried it a few times. But its just a big NO! To flashy with skills on the ground. I dont like the cartoon style feels for kids. Dont like the UI. Dont like the combat. :(

It's another themepark MMO, but I think it was really well done. I love the Explorer, Scientist, Warrior, Settler path options. That really adds a new depth to the game play.

While I'm not a fan of themeparks, this is easily my favorite of the bunch.

Except for the questionable Artstyle and the horrible combat system, its not a bad game :expressionless:

I agree.  I feel like I'm playing Mortal Combat or something :)

I loved the game until you reach the end game content.  At that point it shifts into a twitch based avoid the telegraph game rather then combat.  You spend more time dodgeing then actually fighting stuff.  To make the issue even worse if one of your team members goes down to an insta kill telegraph then the rest of the fight is almost impossible to pull off.  If the game was not so twich based on avoidance at the end I would have probably never left.

Just asking, did you like Esper right out of the box?
For me, it dragged on until about lvl20 until i found a combination of spells that clicked to me. Been unstoppable since then.
It's weird how much the overall gameplay of a class can change by switching 1-2 buttons on your bar.

Actually it is a pretty good game and if you read all the quests and follow the stories there are some interesting things you will see and enjoy. I just don't like the combat but everything else about this game is above average and in some cases like their housing superb.

It can really hurt the eyes, but when you turn off your own telegraphs, it gets better. I even modified an addon to turn off the floating combat text. Now it is way more clear whats going on for me :)

I actually really liked WildStar when it first came out. I managed to level a Medic to 50 and do a few dungeons with friends. The Attunement process and end-game experience is what killed the game for me and many others since it was so niche and for the 'hardcore elite'. Taking another stab at this game with a new toon, probably a tank, hoping that the endgame is a little more casual friendly. We'll see!

You can only twitch so much. Combat gets to me after a while, I'm finding myself playing shorter and shorter game sessions.

I'm very much enjoying Wildstar.  Much more so than I was expecting.  The combat is great in my opinion and I don't mind the telegraphs.  I also like the art style and think it goes well with the comedic/"fun" direction they went with the game.  Some of the emotes are classic.

I don't care for some of the over the top commentary they have with regards to leveling up and double kills.  The UI, specifically the quest log, is also pretty bad.
