EVE and DAOC are not even top 5 guess I don't need to read part 2 I have played tons of mmorpgs and immersive and playable are my priorities. I would even list EQ pre $ony as my other top 3
I was thinking along the same lines but both games had significant flaws to keep them from a top five in my mind.
For DAOC we have to remember the debacle that was the Trials of Atlantis expansion. Although well intended, its execution was awful at the time. Earning TOA rewards now is actually rather easy with the latest systems they have put in place.
As for EVE, they too have had their contavercies. They had employees interfering with gameplay and allowed game systems that would bring servers to a crashing halt. EVE was fun at times, but I quit when it felt like a job more than a game.
Not sure if you can take this serious when Neverwinter Nights released on the AOL platform was considered the first graphical MMO..... which was released in 1991. Yet some how Meridian was given this title.

5. SWG - it was well loved, but also kind of a mess that ruined itself long before the NGE/CU 4. GW2 - very successful and much loved, but didn't become the new king 3. SW:TOR - like GW2 very successful still, but didn't cure cancer or revive Jesus 2. WoW - hail to the king baby 1. EQ - because most of the games on the list wouldn't be here if it wasn't for EQ
Like people said before SW:TOR cant be in the top 5 because its already on number 20 on the list.
I hope it will end something like 5. WoW, 4. GW1, 3.ESO, 2. EQ, 1. SWG.
But i think it would be something like 5. ESO, 4. SWG 3. EQ, 2.WoW, 1. GW2. or swapping 1 and 2, but the writers loves the new expansion for GW2 so guess it will be on number 1.
But I also am missing DDO and STO in the list
(ps why doesnt empty line work in this forum, its so chaotic when you put everything after eachother)
This list is so much fail.
Clearly the people behind this are far to young.
WoW copied/copies everything from other games and are arent inovative in anything.
GW2 is overrated, is extremly repetative and quite bad combatsystem. I actually found GW1 more fun than GW2.
CoH shouldnt be top 15
SWG was ok, got boring very fast and didnt manage to balance classes. Tons of empty space.
Top 3 games should be
UO. The first mmorpg that actually brought in quite alot of players and paved the way for mmorpgs.
EQ. The first really big 3D mmorpg. Set the standard of all following mmorpgs and how they are played.
DaoC. The father of all PvP mmorpgs. Still considered the best PvP mmorpg of all time. WoW and GW2 stole its PvP system from DaoC but failed to copy the magic you only find in DaoC.
You cant make a list like this if your first mmorpg was World of Warcraft.
Heck i would put Rift much higher then 13. Its one of the few mmorpgs that survived P2P for more than a year, had alot of great content and fun raidencounters.
Wow will be number 1...simply because if it wasn't for WoW you wouldn't have 90% of the MMOs that are out there today. EQ should be number 1 or 2 because it's the one that started making MMOs cool to play.
Cool is subjective. From my gaming circle only carebears and sheep played EQ. Real MMOs had PvP/PK systems.
Real pvper didn't play mmorpgs for pvp back in old school. :P

Rift is probably one of the worst games to put very high...It was very clear that they blatantly stole the majority of their MMO from WoW and WAR....TO me that isn't a game, that's stealing.
Wow will be number 1...simply because if it wasn't for WoW you wouldn't have 90% of the MMOs that are out there today. EQ should be number 1 or 2 because it's the one that started making MMOs cool to play.

What does that even mean? PvP and PK was mostly a MUD and later MMOG invention. So why did PvPers play MMOs?
it means a few things. Mostly a joke. Sometimes I forget how sensitive you tough pvpers can get.

If you can not quantify the reason a game is on the list where it is who really cares. It is like rating dancing really has no meaning bit to the individual judge.
Vanilla WoW is not only my #1 MMO of all time, it's my favorite game ever, period. Having started to play it again on Nostalrius, I can confirm that it's still just as great as I remembered it.
For guys saying Swotor it has already been listed somewhere around number 20. So that leaves WoW, EQ, Aoin, GW2, SWG ESO. Six names five spots one of those not only doesnt make the top 5 it doesnt even make the list at all. What a sham. So two of the 5 best MMOs ever made are games that released less than 2 years ago, and ESO in many eyes was a failure?
Eve not being in the top 5 is a joke. And I dont even like it anymore but what it was in the beginning was pretty epic, still has some but its like pro wrestling now what you see s what they want you to see and its all political and who you know behind the scenes not nearly as free range as it used to be.
SWG always over rated because of nostalgia but still a top 5 game
Aoin, like I said never played it but its doubtful its better than Eve or UO. They might get a pass on UO because its old but since it was basically the first ever 'hardcore' open world PvP game that alone gets it in the top 5. Aoin might be the one that doesnt make the list which if it doesnt is just dumb especially with some of the garbage on the list that arent even MMOS making it.
GW2 over rates on the rails crap. But obviously makes a list like this.
Wow is name recognition. but also good to great once but not nearly now. If WoW didnt have add ons and cheats it would be nearly as popular. Its the one thing they got right with that game, they let people add stuff to make it easier. Akin to ARK now, although Ark allows full blown modding and right now in the crappy 'unreleased' version is better than half the games this list will have in the top 10.
EQ should be number one and doubtful not being on the list at all.
So six games 5 spots what one isnt going ot make the list at all and how can these guys justify it, subjective excuses aside.
Rift better than the Secret World? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo.
ok i actually didn't play Rift that much lol
but dat come back from FF14 is the most epic thing in mmo history probably.
my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2
most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.
I don't know man... There always were and continue to be many things about WOW that weren't done in my preferred way: cartoony, too much zany humor, underdeveloped PVP... many more.
But I can't take away from the fact that it has been at times a very fun game with interesting and varied class mechanics, a world that felt huge and especially Blizzard's willingness to change and adapt with the times (some would consider the end product of that a bad thing, but their willingness to change is, IMO, a very good thing.)
It's not my favorite nor do I do any more with it nowadays than just drop in for a short visit after a new expansion, but it has dominated the MMORPG market for a decade for good reason. IMO, no other MMO deserves number 1 more than WOW.
I guess it comes to what is the criteria being evaluated. Improving something existing deserves respect, but not number one.
If City of Heroes is not #1 I'm going to set shit on fire on your doorsteps.
Sure it didn't have nearly as many subs as WoW at it's prime. But it was one of the most innovative and original MMO to be released. It was the very first of it's kind, and despite being shutdown by what most of consider to be an incompetent company for a variety of reasons, it's still vastly superior to any other MMO of it's kind.
