So ... like in EVE Online ? And those "things" are player pilots.
It's not something I've really looked into. I know there's concern regarding comments in the recent 104tDevs where they said you can hire (unlimitied?) NPCs but only have 4-5 pilots, so you could only have a small solo fleet (ugh) and apparently it will be very expensive. If you haven't seen it, there's some good discussion about gold selling and inflation here https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/106754/is-cig-s-credits-for-cash-approach-bad-for-the-game-economy
Hey guys you want to start off the top dog on the street, dont you worry none, we will sell you this 2500 dollar ship, and those poor credit-less NOOBS wont have anything on you.
Except that your Javelin has no weapons and no military equipment installed. Its a hull only.
The poor NOOBS will cripple your thrusters and board you and capture the Javelin.

Dude really? That person who spend 2500 on the ship will spend another 500 on npc crew and items to make that ship strong enough to stop 20 solo players from doing anything to you. You completely ignored the fact that they will need to spend even more money to keep the ships safe. You can pay NPC's to be the crew you do not need other players.
i didnt research this game that much.. but... wont you be able to steal ships? since you can just steal them and have them replaced with insurance.. why would only a limited amount be available?.. why couldnt one person buy a ship for $346523560972345 real life cash and just let people steal it?.. like insurance fraud. im pretty sure i was told about that feature being in the game.. that probably gonna be added once the total gets to $120 million.

A ship cannot be sold without a legitimate hull id code. Claiming on the insurance policy invalidates the hull code on your previous ship, so if it was captured or stolen the new owner will be unable to sell the ship at a regular ship dealer. Additionally if you have claimed on a policy and someone is flying the stolen ship in a well policed system, the hull id will mark it as a stolen ship, the law will be after you and landing privileges will be denied on any lawful planet. You will be able to fly a “hot” ship to the less savory parts of the Star Citizen universe, where you will probably be able to land and may be able to purchase a fake hull id code, but it will take effort and not necessarily be cheap.
Finally the Advocacy takes insurance fraud very seriously. If it can be proven that a player has colluded with another player to defraud the insurance company, that hull’s lifetime insurance will be invalidated and the player may have to pay a large amount of credits to keep their record clean and not be marked as a wanted criminal.
Just to add, you don't get a replacement right away, a ship needs to be produced first and that can take days (and months for the larger ones).
Just wanted to toss this suggestion out there for you. Get rid of the "Have fun" thing.
This may seem silly, but for whatever reason closings like that irritate people. Since you seem to come across to many as a shill, adding something that pokes at people, especially on a subconscious level, doesn't help you come across as genuine or get your message across any more effectively.
Just an observation. Do with it what you will.
Suggestion noted. Effect known. Usage deliberate.
I use such closings in various forums and settings for decades... usually different ones. For mmorpg.com its:
Have fun
Effect Known, Usage deliberate? So you're intentionally doing it to piss people off. Got it.
Ok, all sympathy for you just went out the window. Good luck, man.

Just hope they see the obvious exploit in this. Hello I'm on ebay selling the limited edition ship for 400$ instead of the original 2500$ price. So you and a few friends take the ship with the buyer and pretend it was lost in a battle. Now the new guy owns the ship and you get to have a duplicate because you had insurance.
Second problem... What if the person in the insured ship was the offensive party? They got their ship taken and it is considered illegal even though it belonged to a hostile player? And a reckless crazy player can just continually get free ships because they had insurance.
Or spend six years "interviewing" some of the most evil men ever to walk the earth. At which point the psychological effect of "have fun" is "lol, that's a cute, made for TV, entry-level psych technique".
I am now scared to find out what you do in your free time, sir.

Actually Eve is a LOT MORE P2W in comparison because EVE's universe has only one mode for players and they have to be persistently online or else.
SC, like ED, has different modes where you can just play with friends. So if you don't like some folks you don't have to play with them.
Hard to be play to win with that condition exists.
To be honest I don't even know what those people that pay that much are paying for actually, lol (you can't be "winning" if you can't compare yourself to the progress of the people in the entire game, since some of them will be hidden from your instance of the universe)
yeah.. i see those issues as well as many others. if you are just really bad at playing you could be in trouble. im hoping my skill (or lack thereof) isnt the deciding factor on whether or not my $2500 purchase of a picture of a ship (or just a hull) that i can use in a video game someday was smart.

So, what you're saying is that you probably don't own a set of Horse Armor.

im gonna form a kickstarter to see if i can be crowdfunded to afford the high end packages for these "free" games. if i ever pay more than $100 for a game that may or may not be released i better not only win.. but i should be getting like free meals, my bills paid for, a contract saying it will be released by said date or we will give you your money back with interest as well as any and all perks in the package you bought. possible real life swag.. i dont need my name on the credits that no one reads.. i dont need an in game hat that everyone has. and most of all.. keep funders in the loop.. i dont wanna read forums to see what people think. i dont want to read rumors.. i want some sort of daily/weekly/monthly report so i know my hard earned money is going towards something i believe in.. i need to have a good reason why i spent that kind of cash.. why i worked that much overtime... why i skipped lunch for month..
As I've said in the way back past do you honestly think Chris Roberts is going to cut the head off his cash cow when/if the game launches?
He's raised 92 million at this point selling ships for real world cash, I doubt he is going to just say "cool game is out, lets stop making wads of cash"

Wow, I'd hate to see you at a Gamestop on launch day. It's getting to the point now where I can't get a single game for less than $100. Maybe I need to work on my negotiation skills.

Too many fail to see the difference between selling a product and price gouging. I'm willing to bet this game will always sell limited edition items for ridiculous prices. I did say myself that they are making more money off an unfinished promise then the actual game itself.
i want some sort of daily/weekly/monthly report so i know my hard earned money is going towards
Have you checked out the existing daily/weekly/monthly reports ?
On the official website in electronic format or as video blog (with transcriptions of the vblogs on the INN website)
Have fun
i have not checked it cause i honestly have no desire to play this game. i have also not paid a dime towards it nor will i.. i have paid for other games via kickstarter or other crowd funding means and since i didnt specify i was even talking about star citizen.. your aggression towards me is kind of.. well dumb. out of everything that i said that was clearly over the top.. you picked the one thing that actually made sense. I know this is gonna be some late breaking news but not EVERY crowdfunded game does this. I have paid for enough of these games to see that.
If they are just brimming with said news.. why is it a big thing about how they have nothing to show for it? (until this latest video which i have to admit seems fishy it comes out right now.. such impeccable timing)

First off, I don't disagree about crowdfunding games being chronically late, but I also don't know why that really matters. To each his own, I suppose, but a game I really want being delayed bothers me very little.
As far as the timing of the video in question, I'm sure conspiracy theories will abound, but remember that this whole controversy has come up only in the past month or two. To believe that this video was created in that time is ridiculous. The actors were likely contracted long before, the script was written and I'm sure their speaking parts have been completed for some time. Were they shooting to show this at Citizencon? I'm sure they were. The fact this happened to coincide with them receiving negative feedback about a lack of measured progress is simply fortunate for them.
I don't know when this game will release, it could very well be in 2016, but just because someone puts a "big fuckin' stamp" on a release date, especially one as vague as 2016, it does not "solidify" anything. I can't count how many times I've seen a vague release date like that get pushed back... sometimes multiple years.
I agree *cough* The Division *cough*
However, what it does say is that they have a roadmap that tells them, right now, that 2016 is a reasonable timeline. That is, unless they are lying to everyone in an attempt to simply continue to earn cash without any intention of ever delivering a game!! Either that or, <insert any other conspiracy theory here>
Just saying, they've shifted dates a few times following the KS. They finally went to feature freeze last year, so no more scope creep. Then, now, they're releasing a video with a release YEAR. Granted, it'd be nice to have something more concrete, but even take a look at Gamestop or anywhere like that and you're sure to find a big clump of games listed as December 31st release. They usually sit that way for a while.
I'm not saying it won't move, I'm just saying it's at least a little more concrete.
To be fair a few weeks after ubisoft revealed their 2014 release date the developer came out and said it was BS. He even doubted the game being finished for 2015. Can't trust those canadians knowing what happens with a swedish developer within the same company structure.
When it comes to Squadron 42 you have to look at what they showed and their record. 9 months ago they said squadron 42 would be released. They showed a monologue clip and a tutorial which was typical alpha quality. Beyond that they showed behind the scenes stuff.
If that's all you got there will be quite a while until it gets finished. The only thing in favor of a 2016 release is that they have almost 15 months to finish the first part.
Iselin: And the next person who says "but it's a business, they need to make money" can just go fuck yourself.
well granted.. the video is fine.. i really have no issue with that.. just saying the time the article came out and the video seems a little odd.. i just think the timing is convenient is all..
but waiting for the game is not my issue... its the lack of communication that gets me.. im very patient but i also would like to know how my investments are going.. i would like to know im spending my money wisely.. i dont mind even a little bit of a gamble.. but at least in gambling you dont put your money down and have to wait years to know if you get a payback or not. again.. this isnt directed towards star citizen before people start to freak out and riot and call me names and cry in their diary. but with any investment i would expect to be in the loop. on a constant basis so i could have that piece of mind i guess.
and as far as the gamestop comment... i dont think i have spent 100 bucks on a game at gamestop..maybe i have if it was a collectors edition.. i dont remember... my point is no matter what i pay.. i get the product in hand when i leave and i know what im paying for
It is possible since they are limiting how much a paying player can buy. They would have to figure how much gold a normal player is capable of making in a day and limit that to how much you can purchase. That would allow the people who just want to pay to be competitive with those who have time to play. GW2 sells gold for cash but the economy is stable enough to handle it. Can they produce an economy that won't be hugely affected by the cash shop. *cough* Archeage *cough*
