Next Patch (2.1.2) for the Public Test Universe.

    https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/315825/2-1-2-published-to-ptu#latest

"Alpha Patch 2.1.2 has been released to the PTU, and is now available for player testing! This patch is a very targeted bug fix patch for Crusader and Arena Commander.

Your launcher should should show “2.1.2-315233” as the client version. It is strongly recommended that players delete their USER folder for the Public client after patching, particularly if you start encountering any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:\Program Files\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Test.

Please review our list of 2.1.0 Known Issues, and take full advantage of our Issue Council area of the Community site to report any bugs you encounter, as well as contribute to other players submissions.

    Some important call-outs:

    • A jet-pack looking item has re-appeared on the back of characters in Crusader, that will occasionally flicker in or out of reality.
    • We are aware that ArcCorp is still suffering from some texture problems and level of detail popping.

    Contents:

    Arena Commander Module:

    Fixes:

    Gameplay

    • Fixed an issue where destroying the turret of a ship would render it unable to be targeted by other players.

      User Interface
    • Fixed an issue where a ships HUD could be (accidentally) interacted with outside of free-mouse or HUD interaction mode.

    Persistent Universe:

    Fixes:

The package split between SQ42 and SC has now been fixed for February 14th 2016. No effect for me, but others that only want a single player game might be interested.

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15178-Roundup-Free-Fly-212-Patch-And-Other-Updates

"At the December livestream, we announced that Squadron 42 and Star Citizen will be split into two separate packages in the near future. To update on this: the split will occur on February 14th. Squadron 42 will be available as either a stand alone game or an optional addon for Star Citizen rather than be included by default." "

They should have announced the SQ42 Collectors Edition by now hmm ... guess they'll do it next week.

Transcript - News From Around The Verse

    "Los Angeles
    • Redoing the stats of the 325A (Stats overhaul, not a rebuild on the ship.)
    • Gathering a lot of feedback from forums, especially the shipyard section. Will expand those sections to cover every ship eventually.
    • Work going into new thruster particle effects for boost and afterburner.
    Austin
    • Dave Haddock has done a fiction pass on Levski, to add character to the zone.
    • BeHaviour team are putting things from the Fiction pass into action.
    • Doing a lighting pass on the Nyx shops.
    • David Peng, an animator, is working on animations captured for Astro Armada.
    • The Ops team have created a new team called the Inclusion Mapper, to help keep things secret for SQ42.
    Foundry 42 UK
    • Chris is over in the UK right now, checking on progress and signing off on things. Lots of SQ42 review.
    • Work has gone into player manned turrets on cap ships for a level.
    • They had the Idris flying in a basic form. It still needs a lot of work, but still needs a lot of work to get it functioning properly.
    • Audio issue from the last patch seems to be fixed
    • upcoming patches should address griefing and player hostility.
    Foundry 42 Frankfurt
    • Three new hires this week – Junior AI programmer, weapons artist, and senior games programmer.
    • AI and Design are working more on the roadmap for the year, sorting out dependencies.
    • Work’s going on with prototyping the piping system, and on other careers.
    • Finalising FPS metrics, getting concepts going for special guns and munitions.
    • Working on an improved rail system for all weapons, to help with attachments.
    • Working more on optimizing the engine and addressing bugs.
    • *Work continues on the physicalized EVA collision detection.
    • R&D continues on procedural tech as well. Tech is working with Art to figure out LOD’s, art styles, etc… making good progress.
    • Cinematics have done some previs for scenes for SQ42.

    ATV Interview with Luke Pressley

    • Luke is lead designer of SC Live
    • Luke deals with AC, the Tutorial, the Crusader map, and where it all expands to in the future.
    • The PU, Crusader, the Protoverse, etc… that’s Star Citizen.
    • Crusader is the size of Jupiter.
    • Part of Crusader was figuring out how big and good looking they could make things with the editor. Right now looking at scales in the billions of meters, because of the 64-bit conversion.
    • Crusader is very much a test-bed. There will be changes to the layout of the whole area.
    • They’ll be going around the planet rather than just the cone there is now, need to decide on scale; what distances are fun to fly, etc…
    • They know that Yelah is too small an asteroid to be round, but Crusader’s a testbed, and they don’t have the asteroid tech in place yet.
    • Asteroids will stream in as you get to them, and there are internal demos of the tech already, with the asteroids being destructible, but that tech won’t be included soon™ .
    • Voxel-based destruction will be necessary for mining.
    • Cargo is being looked at for inclusion into Crusader soon. As is Racing.
    • Big Benny’s Vending Machine in hangar will happen soon™ .

    ATV Ship Shape: LODS

    • Patrick is a Technical Artist, who’s been working on LOD’s for ships.
    • LOD is a level of detail; the model of an object changes the further away from the camera. Start out with a multi-million Poly model, and get it down to a few thousand when it’s far away.
    • Essentially you create multiple copies of the same ship with less and less detail that swap out at certain distances
    • There are currently 5 LOD’s per ship.
    • Optimizing comes from making sure every part has LOD’s and is done properly because having something at 100% when it’s far away can add up and take away performance.
    • What’s interesting about the ships is they are made up of hundreds if not thousands of tiny parts which load up simultaneously and finding the sweet spot so you don’t notice pop in."

Every time I watch that video I laugh at someone that seems to be lost at the computer. Anyone of us on this forum would of been getting up checking cables, software and so on. For a guy that makes games for PC he looks like he is lost around them. Sorry you can't say he has people working for him to do those things. If it was me or any of you, we would have been up checking shit. Hell we would of made sure it was all working before going live.

Yet you think the guy will bring a complete game to you.

    Hilarious.

I feel like he needs more time than he is giving his team at the moment to reach his vision is the problem.  I've got plenty of faith Squadron 42 will get made and completed, but SC is a different can of worms entirely.

What's trolling about it? That is Roberts trying to play his own demo, something he is working on, something he is marketing to people, something he has been making promises about for years.

How about this one from 2 years ago, the game actually looks better. How much progress do you see?

Why does the game look "better" two years ago? Is SC the Benjamin Button of game development?

    Another happy customer!

    https://goo.gl/R2zpQV

RO LAREN <Some can see the reality of the whole thing.

"Out of everything to be concerned about the development of this game, finances aren't one of them. I think they have that covered but that's just like my opinion man.

The things you should be concerned about is
    - exec producers leaving left and right (3 in the past months) and people being fired on the spot
    - lack of landing zones & systems (we still only have ONE landing zone and ONE station around ONE planet)
    - constant change of focus (first they tell us this is important, than it's this, then it's SM that makes the base for everything else, then it's Port Olisar, then SM isn't that important, then nothing else is more important than SQ42. I'm no game developer but if they had focused on SQ42 from the get go, it'd probably be out.. well maybe now, who knows.
    - the constant missed stated dates. If one is in full control of development, PR and releasing information and also relies on his history of making games this really shouldn't happen as often as it does. Missing dates is not a big thing, being so very wrong about those dates is.
    - constant cash grabs. One could be so naive to think it's for community engagement because the community keeps asking for more ships.. but come on! Then there are other things like "melting" & "upgrading" which one may think is for us... or rather "for us spending more".
    - lack of mechanics implemented. We still have not seen anything about exploration, mining, trading/shipping, smuggling, wormhole travel, basically what most of us will be doing, so very much "up in the air".
    - the state of PU. Just no, it is not a great experience right now. It's clunky, it's not easy to get going, it's a good test bed but that's all
    - the contradictory information and decisions that one would get upset about if one hadn't followed game making before. Problem is, they aren't only changing things in a game under development, they're changing the terms for 1 million preorders!
    - the fact that this company was cofounded by a lawyer. I've worked with lawyers for years and I trust them to do one thing - exploit shades of grey. Not to mention just how many companies there are even involved in this project owned by CR, ER or Ortwin!
    - Out of all ships promised in Kickstarter all those years ago, how many are actually flyable? (and yes, the Retaliator was promised during Kickstarter)

I mean the list goes on for reasons to be concerned about this. But never the less they are only "concerns" about a game in production for just a few years. Unless someone shows me the money trail of Sandi's trip to the Monaco GP last year going back to my wallet I'm good and patiently waiting. There are plenty of other things to keep us busy in the mean time, like The Division (if you're disapointed at "no Star Marine!" you really should check it out, even if it's by the "evil corporation" Ubisoft), then the next WOW expansion, not to mention planets to explore in E:D Horizons, Descen Underground is expanding... good times for a gamer :)

    Dat's what I think :)"

I find this a great read. The enlightening part is: http://goo.gl/tdDg90

"Work on it began in 1999

Five years, 50 developers, and about $63M: That’s what it took to make vanilla World of Warcraft. Development began at Blizzard back before the turn of the century, the same year that EverQuest and Asheron’s Call released."

Think about that, no really think about 50 devs, 63m and 5 years.

Now what does CR have after 2011 < Is what CR said he started working on the game. So now in 2016 and over 107m and what is it now 160 to 280 devs?

Where is the game? No really think about that! 50 devs 63m and you have a pre pre demo of nothing.

I'm following SC from the side lines but as far as I can tell SC will never be released as intended. The technology to do what they want to do is not available, hence you will probably get a shoe box version of the intended game, 16 players/ships or however you want to split it. It is effectively another lobby game not an MMO and that's all it will ever be.

Brave concept, can't speak for their design but they don't seem to be getting even close to their original plan never mind the "new" expanded "bigger" version that is taking longer.

Same problem as lots of big projects, there comes a time when they have invested so much in the engine and tech they are using they have to just go with what they've got because newer and better engines are coming out and it would almost a re-write to utilise them.

I honestly think they were just too close to the curve and the newer technology just isn't having the impact they thought it would.

They may as well cut the losses and just release as an online multiplayer game, space survival even, with the measly 16 players they can support now.

    Decent reply to "which glitch".

I didn't think much of the latest "around the verse". PU guy talking about mocap and too many npcs puking was the highlight, I guess. Too easy to pick on, though, doesn't feel sporting.
