ROFL, go to 2:45 CR can't play his own game. So he couldn't play his own pre alpha and said lets go to video. The guy doesn't look like a very good dev, producer, or director. But he scams well. Laughed my butt off. I would have expected more after 100m+ Also near the end that one guy looks like he wants to go home, not a happy camper. :-D

Just downloaded it today, still needs work, lots of work.  My system is i5 4690K, Radeon 7850 2 Gigs, 12 Gigs system memory and 2 terabyte HD.  Practically unplayable. Was trying flight training. Had to 3 finger salute to get out since it was running so poorly. Expect some "bugs" but not this. May try again later but if it works the same way will put it up on my digital shelf til a major update come out. Shows promise but from my experience way too early to try.

Sadly we are still about 2 years off from an actual playable game that resembles what was pitched to us.

I sure there will be some optimizations. However, you're graphics card is on the cusp of some of the minimum requirements. Some just state a 1GB DX11 card, while others (like on Game Debate) list a minimum requirement of an HD 7970, which would put your card under that. On a positive note, it should actually improve on release, since there's less going on in the background. However, I know that when I was in some of the initial test phases of Wildstar, the performance was horrible. Once it was released and running, it ran much smoother. I could even bump graphics up a couple levels and still play smoothly. Can't say it'll happen, but here's hoping.

Of course it won't happen. Remember this game doesn't actually exist.

My bad. If you want it to work, you need a quantum computer.

    I can help with that.

Some of the best QC work is being done in Innsbruck and Vienna.

Did Wing Commander (and this game?) have a realistic space flight model? I seem to remember the game (with VGA graphics) feeling like they just rolled the starfield in the direction you pulled the stick, but had no sense of depth. By depth I mean actual spacial depth not complexity.
No, it did not. Most space games deliberately use a kind of WWOne airplane-ish dogfight flight model.

Frontier tried a realistic space flight and combat system with one of the Elite successors. It was a desaster and absolutely no fun to play. While physically realistic it is no fun to play engagements lasting millisecond at relativistic speeds, followed by long periods (=minutes, hours) of maneuvering to get in position again. Where the best weapon is a huge cloud of small steel balls impacting your hull with the kinetic energy of a freight train ... EACH ! No fancy lasers or guided missiles needed.

It's a sci-fi space game, it's supposed to be fun and playable, not 'realistic'.
In WC they used a lot of tricks to make it seem like space if you weren't paying enough attention. The starfield was some kind of backdrop, I'm going to guess they put you in a large sphere, but obviously I'm not sure of that.
What I am sure of is the asteroids. They were spawned in front of you and just moved towards you based on your speed. Since my ship often had a hard time dodging around some of them in a dogfight, I would do a sit & spin. Zero speed and pretend I'm an omnidirectional turret. Made it freaking simplistic, and now the rocks were totally unmoving. It was also nice to see my opponents run into them instead of me for once.
Also, they were apparently random since you could spot a recognizable rock or configuration of rocks, move forward until they disappeared, then immediately go backwards, and completely different ones would appear.

Still had lots of fun in the game, though I hate 'escort missions' in all games!

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

Well I guess I can continue to try and learn to fly in Elite: Dangerous.  Have no problem with that one. Did a quick check on the website. Welcome any pointers to more complete info. Here is what I found:

What are the minimum system requirements for Arena Commander?

    - Windows 7 service pack 1 (64 bit) or Windows 8 (64 bit)

    - DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB Video RAM

    - Quad core CPU

    - 8GB Memory

And that was what is on the website as of today.

Schhhh we (gamedevs) are still doing that ... ever wondered how sky and weather spheres work? :)

Sure when you develop a Game you have tons of stuff that is running in the background, Animation/Audio Mixers, Splat map generators, Stuff for testing/debug etc... though they are all flagged Editor only - they won't get into the client once compiled except the error reporting which will stay in the release.
Things going on in the background in an early stage is a Urban legend from the 90s (where this was true due to no Editor only flags).

Seems like a video put together rather fast for damage control after CR's disaster during live.

It also sounds a lot like what they were pushing just before 2.0 hit. Should be interesting when it does go live. I have a feeling a lot of people will not be home for Christmas!

Another update was the much awaited "Unmelt" feature. This would allow you to buy back any previously bought ships that you might have melted for credit etc.
The only problem was that they haven't coded in 'Store Credit' functionality. How they missed this when it was the key point of the application is up for grabs. The most believable option is that they simply want people to spend additional money buying back ships they had previously bought.

If you gave CIG a fool-proof feature they would still find a way to screw it up or in other words they couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Man the game is shaping up real nice, i'm pleasantly surprised how immersive and cinematic it looks even at this early stage, i can't wait to play it when it's done
