Of the 10 listed I would say WOW though, you simply can't say there is another mmo greater than wow because it made the genre mainstream, attracted vastly more players/developers than ever were interested before and that it's STILL the market leader beating everything else by a massive margin. Nothing else even comes close to WOW even at its lowest point.
If not for wow most of those games on the list probably would not exist, probably not this site either.
There just isn't any way anyone can say anything other than WOW unless they are a fanboy or something.
Uh, this website came out before WoW. In fact, so have most of the games on the list. You must be trolling.
I would argue that making MMO gaming mainstream is what killed the genre. Although, if everyone quits MMO's to play MOBA's then the genre might have a rebirth. Back in the glory days people played MMO's all day to have fun and to build a reputation for themselves (basically only the nerdiest of nerds played). Now people just log in to click buttons and receive phat lewtz. If most of the other players were actually bots or just NPC's you would never be able to tell the difference.
They all have some good stuff about them, others not so much, but I think I'll decline on the vote and just say at one time many of those games were awesome - until the developers broke them.
My top MMO is not based on any one game, but rather the community that gathered there. All MMOs have their good and bad points. The other players dictate to me how long I stay.
That being said, City of Heroes/Villains had the best community I have ever experienced. Not listed.
Which brings to mind the poll in general. How can 10 MMOs listed cover "The Best?" More accurate would be "Which of these 10 MMOs was the best?"

I like different MMOs depending on my mood, or the time of year, or whatever.
I haven't played WOW at all in a long, long time, and I haven't played it solidly since TBC; but it deserves the top spot, it is the most popular, it was certainly one of the best for me back in vanilla and TBC, it has the most content...

I went with EQ, because it established so many of the conventions later games emulated. And a couple of systems like Begging, Lock Picking and Pick Pockets (admittedly not very good systems) that most haven't even attempted to incorporate into the game.
The later game followed the WoW model for XP gains, where the task became more valuable than killing the 10 wolves. There was some challenge to knowing which mobs were good for XP, faction or money. Quests provided the better gear. This division gave the player a 'hidden' choice of what to hunt. Where in the themeparks like WoW, quests lost this distinction and tended to provide everything the player needed.

Obviously the polls here are limited to 10 titles, but it is just for fun.
By the way I voted Everquest though WoW is close second

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
Can you at least make a "other" as a option
