There’s something about a show’s title track that sticks with you long after you’ve watched it, and video games are no different in this respect. Final Fantasy - Crystal Theme. It's in every FF, and always hits me in my nostalgia.

For me it is Zanarkand from FFX.

I find that FF games are the only games where the music seems to stick with me.Like  i hear a few bars and right away i am like oh oh i know that.But play me something from other games and i likely won't even notice.

Wow, "Sunleth Waterscape” for FF8. It's not even the best song in that particular Final Fantasy game, never mind the series. The best theme song in FF8 is "Liberi Fatali" which is the first song you hear when starting the game. Most FF fans would say "One Winged Angel" if you were to pick just one song from the series. Its easily one the most epic pieces ever to appear in a video game. The series is well known for having the best video game music ever made, Nobuo Uematsu tours Japan performing it, and Final Fantasy series ranks is at #5. Head over to Overclocked Remixes and you'll see how much people appreciate Final Fantasy's music over any other series. The only game that beats them for remixes is Chrono Trigger. Speaking of which where's that listed on this list.

I believe these are quite famous among old school PC gamers: - music for Doom 1 (E1M1 - At Doom's Gate) - hell march theme from C&C: Red Alert (and Frank Klepacki's music for Dune 2) - guitar theme played in town in Diablo 1 - main themes from Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 - music from Mechwarrior, Mechwarrior: Mercenaries and Mech Commander

Three things wrong with this list from the top. 1: Legend of Zelda while having some RPG elements is technically Action/Adventure and doesn't belong on the list, despite Ballad of the Goddess being one of my favorite pieces of music ever. 2: The number of OSTs released as well as licensed and fan work around Final Fantasy could fill my entire bookshelf, but you pick a song from the most universally reviled Final Fantasy, when other masterful pieces like Prologue or the Crystal Theme or Terra's Theme or the Cosmo Canyon Theme or Matoya's Cave or One Winged Angel? 3: This list does not include one of the most iconic and pulse pounding music themes from any RPG Ever. "Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan!/Roar! Imperial Flower Assault Group" From Sakura Wars, which, unlike Legend of Zelda actually is an RPG. I defy anybody to listen to that song and -not- be pumped and ready to do something absurdly badass. Granted, there would be other songs I would also add to this list. Namely "Steel for Humans/Oi Lazare" from Witcher 3, "Frog's Theme" From Chrono Trigger, "Power of Love! Chroma Squad!" from Chroma Squad, "Cries of a Dead World" from Wasteland 2, among others.

Morrowind's main theme is way better than Skyrim's IMO.

pretty much any FF should be the number 1. FFXIV had a lot of really great tracks. kingdom heats is a close second in my book.

I was going to respond something similar. Love Morrowind's version of the ES theme, it's so solemn, and fits the feel of the game beautifully. I actually swapped Skyrim's version with MW's. Not a fan of the Skyrim version of the song.

I also love At Zanarkand (or To Zanarkand - I've seen it called both). That also captures the feel of the overall story really well, too.

As for MMOs, Lineage 2 is the game, and my favorite is a toss-up between "Call of Destiny" and "After The Storm" together, since one echoes and "concludes" the other. The other from L2 would be "Caravans Crossing". Lineage 2 overall has such an amazing soundtrack. Bill Brown composed some beautiful music for that, and all performed by a live orchestra. Easily my favorite to this day.

Yes, I definitely agree it's an opinion piece. You can never create a Top 5 or 10 List and not have it be based on opinion unless the results are polled from a large group of people. The larger size of voters creates a more stable and true end result. As for me, I'm probably not a die hard FF fan, but I will always associate Crystal Theme to that series. Aside from that, EQ's Intro Theme is something I will always recognize as well as WoW's character selection Theme. As much as I loved LOTRO, their Intro Theme is not as memorable for me as with other games. So, I guess it's safe to say, FF Crystal, EQ Intro and WoW Character Selection Themes are by far my most memorable 3.

Also agree with the opinion comments above, my #1 would be atm Morrowind. Also would definitely leave off FF, but as has been said, that's just my opinion.

Anything by Nobuo Uematsu. His total body of work up to and including the Dragonsong for FFXIV Heavenwards deserves special recognition.

Actually, Morrowind is also my fav, but this was a bit of a collaborative piece.
