Will keep my eye on this one.

Chronicles of Elyria is so much like Revival in so many respects. Add human dungeon masters for enhancement of immersion, storytelling and role-playing like Revival and I will no longer be sure which one I want to play more. I am not the only one with this dilemma -> https://www.revivalgame.com/forum#/discussion/997/why-should-i-play-revival-instead-of
I see one big thing on Revival's mechanic which is NOT in Elyria.... and thankfully so. https://www.revivalgame.com/store Everything that has in it makes it a micro-transaction game. Want housing? Pay for it, want to adventure? Pay for it. In Elyria, there is none of that, it is $20-$30 every 10-14 months of REAL LIFE play... you have to earn your way in the game on your own or with a larger guild as a shared element.

I would be really happy with $20-30 for 10-14 months as the only means of monetization for Elyria, but I am a bit sceptical based on the past of many other indie and crowdfunded MMOs. Did Elyria scrap the plans to include a cash shop selling game currency for real money? Won't there be some "carrot" or bonus to entice people to pledge their real money when Elyria begins its crowdfunding campaign? https://chroniclesofelyria.com/forum/General-Discussion/59-Pay-to-win In post #5 Jeromy Walsh wrote: "The in-game exchange system is a tightly monitored, tightly controlled currency exchange between Soulbound Studios and players. We have no plans to allow people to get money back out of the game... A system of buying gold and using it to purchase training from other players allows those who want to enjoy the game, but don't have a lot of free time, a way to stay caught up and competitive." The point is that some people may find monetization models in both games equally bad if they do some deeper research on what lead designers have said in forum discussions on both Revival and Chronicles of Elyria websites. In defense of both games, it is important to say that preconceptions from existing MMOs may not apply at all. These games aspire to be very different from existing MMOs and we will see just how good or bad their chosen monetization models are only when they are released.

This game seems too good to be true. I am a glass is half full kind of a person, so I really hope everything I have read about this game is true, and I hope the character cost will not be prohibitive. I need to build a time machine so I can check it out.

I still worry about the logistics of this. Those are the things that doomed games of the past. How easy will it be to game with people you know when jim is 200 miles away. What type of systems will they ahve in place when players get tired of losing so much time in places they abandon game.

Personally I would be more willing to pay a sub fee for such a game if it came with all the promised systems.  Not sure they can fund it very well with the current design.   As to Revival, that is strictly a pay-to-win game no matter how much they protest it isn't and it will die a quick death if it ever reaches release.

Chronicles of Elyria is certainly not any better in that respect. In addition to a game currency shop it also has influence points. Influence points are given to people when they promote the game (fan content, Youtube videos, journalistic blogs), invite other paying/promoting people, test bugs or contribute valuable ideas. Influence points will also be given to people who will pay money for the game when crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign begins. Influence points will be used to buy special rewards, legendary items, land, property, guild halls, store fronts, noble titles and some other stuff.

Add open PvP. What's the "end game" here?

    Jail:
    For how long?
Chance of capture and actually getting jailed with your friends around?
    Escape?

Or is this just more proof that some people still live under rocks?
The jail concept is quite intereting, as your character has a life span in this game rather than making you sit in the prison for x period of time that time is taken off your lifespan instead. So there are some serious penalties for getting caught, but you don't end up sat bored out of your mind you can keep playing. I think it is interesting that the better you are at the more challenging parts of game the longer you live, and therefore the less you pay overall. I think it really encourages people to think about their crimes and not get caught!
The issue with this is that descendants get boosts with skills. Think about it. Lose the fan filter and really think about the game. It has major holes in logic yet Soulbound Studios is only listening to the praise being offered any critical comments are ignored or belittled.
Actually - that's just not true. They completely revamped the way inventories work because of fan feedback. Caspian has spent hours - MANY HOURS - talking to player concerns. In fact, there is about 3 hours of actual "Concern" Q&A up on YouTube; and thousands of lines of chat with Caspian discussing alternative ideas to systems to correct the "Skill Ramp" exploit. I can confirm - Caspian is aware of the Skill Ramp exploit, the idea of suicide and other things. He and I've discussed these exploits to death, and he is working up a solution for it. The game - though well along - is still in the early stages of development. You can't be seriously drawing any kind of serious conclusion here with what limited research you've used to render your judgement.
    Actually that just is true.

    Why?
Because? Soulbound has their core concepts that they will not change, they have stated they are making a game they want to play. Problem is we have no idea what their 'core concepts' are.

So you're saying they're ignoring feedback?
Have you not been reading the Design Journals? Following the forums? Read the Blurb on this very site about the game? That clearly indicates their core concepts for the game. Also the planned Design Journals and timeline helps shed light on what we'll be hearing more about in the next month too.

They've reviewed and changed core mechanics and logic around things after discussion with the community on forums and IRC. They're refining the soul rebirth system and considering better ways to go around it.

A developer journal is a "dear diary, I did this today..." and guess what, in 3 weeks they can go "dear diary, I changed my mind on this mechanic after speaking with some people in depth"

They are listening so it is not true what you say. There are core mechanics that they will ensure get into the game at launch, if they need to trim some things back a bit to ensure it meets their launch goals then they will but they'll use post-launch to bring the full features back online.

That is quotable and not made-up.

Magic is a thing of mystery... We know Magic and Talents are closely tied together in the lore of things... as to the full mechanics it is unknown... but you won't be casually walking around summoning IMPs or anything of the kind.

Magic in COE will be a rare thing, if you have it, it will be something to be feared.

    Take this image: https://chroniclesofelyria.com/Images/Concept_LayWaste2.jpg
It has been said that is something we will be seeing in-game, but to do that you won't just walk up a hill hit a few buttons with a 6 second cast time and whammo! Great Balls of Fire!

Magic in COE is something that to the Elyrian's... is something not seen in many, many... many years (think 100's of years). Consider yourself blessed if you get magic.

As for thievery, that is very much going to be a thing within COE.
