Challenging other martial artists in player vs. player combat can come in a variety of different ways within Blade & Soul, from testing your skills in World PvP with a Faction uniform equipped, to entering the Arena and competing against other martial artists.
When entering the Arena [F9], all players have their equipment and character level equalized. A level 20 player, for example, will scale up to be able to compete against a max level player. But if you’re serious about Arena competition, reaching max level should be a priority.
The Arena system will match you up with an opponent of similar skill, based on their ranking, to provide the most even and fair competition possible. If you’d rather practice your martial skills and not affect your ranking, you can choose to spar with other players by selecting the Sparring option at the bottom of the Arena Lobby, and enter your opponent’s character name. Note that entering an opponent’s name is case sensitive.
Once your opponent has been chosen, your character will be transferred to the Dueling Grounds where you will enter a 30 second preparation period prior to starting the fight. In the preparation period, you’ll be able to adjust your skill points to contend against your opponent as you see fit. Once you’ve selected and learned your skills and are ready for battle, press Shift +F to begin the round before the preparation timer runs out.
Arena matches are best of three, with each round being determined by either the first player to reduce their opponent’s health to zero, or by the total amount of damage dealt within three minutes—if neither opponent reaches zero health. Survive two rounds to win the match!
You’ll receive PvP currency—Zen Beans—through most forms of PvP, including PvP daily quests. You’ll receive significantly more Zen Beans from winning in Arenas than from losing, and you can spend your Zen Beans on rewards, like skill upgrades, crafting, and upgrade materials. While Blade & Soul will launch with Arenas and their compelling skill-based gameplay, the biggest rewards will come from ranked competitive Seasons, and we’ll have more information after release on Seasons and how they’ll work.
Head to the Arena if you’re up to the challenge, and test your might.

Speaking of Heroes I think it would be awesome if Blade And Soul would use this to crown montly Heroes of each class like Lineage 2 did.
Perhaps MOBAs are showing the way that instanced equalized PVP can be fun.
Sorry but im trying to figure you why this game is competitive?
Its competitive because its focused more on movement and skill usage. It almost like a fighting game and has esport.

Can't wait for the game too be fully released!
Monster Hunter since '04!
Currently playing: MHW & MHGU
What is the disadvantage of playing at a lower level?
Also, a question about "In the preparation period, you’ll be able to adjust your skill points to contend against your opponent as you see fit.": Does that mean you can change/select any class skill before a fight? Like changing trait lines/builds etc in GW2 in spvp?
So when you reach level 50 do you have access to all the available build customization, or is there gear or other skills you have to grind for?
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
At release we'll get 45 and no hongmun level, so we'll be really really far away. My estimate is that we'll get 50 content this summer with WL. We'll get Pohwaran/Lab 2-3 months after the release, then we'll get the Chi Master/New content Q4 of 2016. And by then New content will probably be released in KR and other part of the world so we'll alway need to play catch up with those servers and never be on the same version, unless there's a miracle.
It's really sad
Anyone having played UT99 or Quake would laugh at this combat,it is more like Mortal Kombat.
You need really good maps and realistic movement to have quality pvp.Yes i understand this is touted as Martial Arts but imo is NOTHING like martial arts.If i wanted a better quality martial arts game i would play the UFC MMA game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
are you comparing quake to street fighter? ....
Giving players a level-capped PVP character, and using separate gear for instanced PVP simply makes sense, as it moves closer toward a system of Even Levels and Earned Rewards, which is the exact opposite of the EQer mindeset of Earned Levels and Even Rewards.
