The Arena offers the ultimate in skill-based competitive play.

Challenging other martial artists in player vs. player combat can come in a variety of different ways within Blade & Soul, from testing your skills in World PvP with a Faction uniform equipped, to entering the Arena and competing against other martial artists.

When entering the Arena [F9], all players have their equipment and character level equalized. A level 20 player, for example, will scale up to be able to compete against a max level player. But if you’re serious about Arena competition, reaching max level should be a priority.

The Arena system will match you up with an opponent of similar skill, based on their ranking, to provide the most even and fair competition possible. If you’d rather practice your martial skills and not affect your ranking, you can choose to spar with other players by selecting the Sparring option at the bottom of the Arena Lobby, and enter your opponent’s character name. Note that entering an opponent’s name is case sensitive.

Once your opponent has been chosen, your character will be transferred to the Dueling Grounds where you will enter a 30 second preparation period prior to starting the fight. In the preparation period, you’ll be able to adjust your skill points to contend against your opponent as you see fit. Once you’ve selected and learned your skills and are ready for battle, press Shift +F to begin the round before the preparation timer runs out.

Arena matches are best of three, with each round being determined by either the first player to reduce their opponent’s health to zero, or by the total amount of damage dealt within three minutes—if neither opponent reaches zero health. Survive two rounds to win the match!

You’ll receive PvP currency—Zen Beans—through most forms of PvP, including PvP daily quests. You’ll receive significantly more Zen Beans from winning in Arenas than from losing, and you can spend your Zen Beans on rewards, like skill upgrades, crafting, and upgrade materials. While Blade & Soul will launch with Arenas and their compelling skill-based gameplay, the biggest rewards will come from ranked competitive Seasons, and we’ll have more information after release on Seasons and how they’ll work.

Head to the Arena if you’re up to the challenge, and test your might.

    I hate structured PvP.

Also Arena is only good at max level, unless they fixed it. A low level wasn't able to adjust skills and were stuck with the stock kit.
I enjoyed it when I tried it and won 3 out of 5 matches at level 8. As for structured pvp I loved the Olympiad Games in Lineage 2. That is before they added those other stages and people started running and hiding but I use to really enjoy it at one point. I will never forget I was 1 hit away from beating a Dwarf Hero on my Soul Hound in Olympaid. Thats as close as I ever came to beating a Hero.

Speaking of Heroes I think it would be awesome if Blade And Soul would use this to crown montly Heroes of each class like Lineage 2 did.

I really like that equipment is equalized.  All instanced PVP should be like this (gear should matter in open world pvp, though).  TERA also had some options for it.

Perhaps MOBAs are showing the way that instanced equalized PVP can be fun.

The grab's and combos are retarded, I don't see a reason to punish me with a -2/3hp combo because I let my guard down once.

For me this comment is positive, you let your guard down so ofcourse you should get demolished, just like in a moba if you let your guard down you are dead.

This is what adds skill to the game, what seperates good players from mediocre/bad players.

You cant say the game is retarded for making you lose if you put your guard down......... I dont understand how u feel that way,  what is retarded for me is pvp based on gear and stats with a tab targeting combat system.

PvP in this game requires skill to win and not sitting laid back in your chair pressing a couple of buttons

What has the combat style got to do with competitive? ANY combat style can be competitive. Even a simple game like Pong.

You have to aim but it does a soft lock on the target. Not full fps style like TERA.

Its competitive because its focused more on movement and skill usage. It almost like a fighting game and has esport.

Why does it say "But if you’re serious about Arena competition, reaching max level should be a priority." when the previous sentence is  "A level 20 player, for example, will scale up to be able to compete against a max level player."

What is the disadvantage of playing at a lower level?

Also, a question about "In the preparation period, you’ll be able to adjust your skill points to contend against your opponent as you see fit.": Does that mean you can change/select any class skill before a fight? Like changing trait lines/builds etc in GW2 in spvp?

Well at level 20 you won't be familiar to every skill in the game yet so technically you are in a disadvantage.

let me explain: You get the same stats (apropriate to your class at max lvl) but you dont have all skills aviable at lvl 20 like somone at lvl 50. At lvl 50 you can switch to many builds depending who you face. Want more block? change that- want more crit? change that. A lvl 20 doesnt have many possibilitys at that point. Actaully -none since oyu have to unlock the skills on your way to max lvl.

    I see thanks for that.

So when you reach level 50 do you have access to all the available build customization, or is there gear or other skills you have to grind for?

Yeah but we won't be in the 2016 World that's for sure. Unless there's a miracle. BnS Korea is releasing new content next month: New level cap, new zones, new dungeons, we might get new floors for mushin, new pvp content and let's not forget, a new class.

At release we'll get 45 and no hongmun level, so we'll be really really far away. My estimate is that we'll get 50 content this summer with WL. We'll get Pohwaran/Lab 2-3 months after the release, then we'll get the Chi Master/New content Q4 of 2016. And by then New content will probably be released in KR and other part of the world so we'll alway need to play catch up with those servers and never be on the same version, unless there's a miracle.

    It's really sad :(

standing in a super cheap map face to face is imo the lowest form of good pvp. Also the dodging is retarded not even close to realistic, they are dodging like 15-20 feet. The combat is also SPAM again one of my biggest peeves.

Anyone having played UT99 or Quake would laugh at this combat,it is more like Mortal Kombat.

You need really good maps and realistic movement to have quality pvp.Yes i understand this is touted as Martial Arts but imo is NOTHING like martial arts.If i wanted a better quality martial arts game i would play the UFC MMA game.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Balancing the field in instanced PVP has been an ongoing thing since WOW's Battlegrounds. In 2007, you had a variety of new resolutions. Some notable ones are LOTRO's Monster Play and 4Story's MOBA-like battlegrounds. Guild Wars 2 is a relatively recent (rel. 2012) MMO that did what Blade and Soul is doing.

Giving players a level-capped PVP character, and using separate gear for instanced PVP simply makes sense, as it moves closer toward a system of Even Levels and Earned Rewards, which is the exact opposite of the EQer mindeset of Earned Levels and Even Rewards.

Personal if I do any PvP its group based so you will find me in 3v3 or open world. Never a fan of 1v1 matches in any game, always feel its a match of standing around wait for mistakes. I like to flank and get people from the sides.
  • maydaysosmaydaysos Member UncommonPosts: 14
3v3 Is hella fun. specially if you get a good team dynamic that knows how to play.

That was some nice fighting. Force Master is a really good class that can do some of everything.
