Starting new player

Hi! So i purchased the Horizons beta and I start playing on 11-23-15. Which Joystick should i buy? I've been Looking at the Thrustmaster on Amazon for $40. is that all i really need? there is one on craigslist. but im sorta skeptical of used joystick/game controllers. your thoughts?

I really like the Thrustmaster T.16000m. Very good sensors, ambidextorous if you want twin sticks, reliable and pretty cheap. If you want a HOTAS there's nothing wrong with the T-Flight, Isinona uses one and he seems to do more than fine in his "Flight Assist Off" series.

If you have a microphone you might find VoiceAttack handy, they do a limited free version iirc.

Try Voice-attack's trial.

The full version is well worth it though.

Not really, certainly not in the typical sense.
Responding to a question in a recent livestream about player groups functionality coming to the game Braben said  "Yes, but... recognising player groups as sub-factions is the start (this is what we have at the moment), it won't be exactly like other games mechanics." so anyone's guess currently.

As far as starting out do you recommend doing anything first like Mining, pirates, follow story mode? or just wing it? practice docking?

Go off-line, do trading, get some money , buy a good ship and good modules. For trading use fan made webpages to find the best trade routes

THEN go online and do what you like. PvP, Explore 20000 new stars, smuggle drugs into monastery systems, find Thargoid relics, fight for a faction, Go all Boba-Fett-like bounty hunting  etc.

I ordered a Digital Copy of Elite Dangerous and I'm not able to download it today? is the launcher somewhere else?

So after playing since 12/1/15. i have a cobra mk3 almost fully decked out with 1million credits and got the gist of landing down. things i have issues with. 1)steep learning curve on the best presets with a Thrustmaster joystick since theres like 200 keybindings available 2) powerplay what is it how to i help 3) where to find the best equipment/ships without searching the interet for "where is the XXX ship" 4) how the commoditites market works and the unbroken way of flying into a resource extraction sight and tagging a pirate while the cops kill him and i get 200,000 seems too easy as a way to make money. other than that having a blast
