This game actually kept me up for a few 24 hour+ play sessions a few months ago, and that's become a rare occurrence as I continue becoming an older and more jaded gamer. And doing a Google search, I was kind of sad to see that KSP hasn't even rated a single mention here in the General Forum since its release in April 2015. Because IMO, Kerbal Space Program is a damn good game.
What is KSP? - a modular, building block style rocket and plane construction sim focused on space exploration. Based on a general foundation of real world design and physics, but with some whimsical elements thrown in to lighten things up.
Who might like KSP? - min/maxers, geeks and nerds.
Who might not like KSP? - graphics whores and hard core action gamers.
Summation - "It's a rare and wonderful game, and deserves the strongest possible recommendation." Score 96 - PC Gamer
- There's a steep learning curve. I strongly suggest that at first you run the game in a window on one side of your monitor, and follow along with Scott Manley's "Career Mode" Youtube tutorial series on the other side. Scott is nothing less than a very funny, interesting, and knowledgeable teacher.
- This is a game that needs mods to really bring it to life (and there are a lot of mods out there). Some experience with modding is going to make life a lot easier for a new player.
- In my opinion the games "Career Mode" (the way I suggest playing KSP) is way too short on the average difficulty setting. I'd suggest cranking the difficulty way up, and also looking for some mods that will make science points harder to come by. There's no reason you should be allowed to complete the "Tech Tree" without visiting a few other planets. That is, other than the developers wanting to appease the attention deficit disorder crowd.
- I had a couple of serious episodes involving my (very costly and hard to build) space station poofing in one instance, and having its orbit suddenly decay for no good reason in another. And because it took so long for me to notice it, going back to a previous save was not a good option. I was able to fix things up with some creative save file editing, but someone less experienced might not be so fortunate. However I'd bet there's been a patch or two put out since I last played KSP. But still, just remember.
Fly safe!
Edit: That Youtube link should display a playlist page of 30 some videos. But I can't figure out how NOT to get only the stupid player showing. I do kind of miss the old mmorpg.com site format.
KSP is an amazing, hillarious, but seriously challenging game, many kerbals were 'cheerful' sacrifices in testing many of the safety aspects of; landing, mid air explosions due to inadvisable acceleration, insufficient deceleration due to lack of fuel when attempting mun landings, take off issues with aircraft running out of runway, landing issues with aircraft due to inability to turn without falling out of the sky suddenly.. etc. KSP is a really fun game, but, many Kerbals are usually sacrificed along the way, in often hillarious ways. The importance of having more than 1 parachute on your command module cannot be overstated
The title of the thread could be interpreted to mean that, as its largely in the past tense. Likely unintentional though.
Yes, unintentional. I suppose because I've basically played the game out myself, and have now moved on. I was simply trying to offer up a little information on a small, indie title I ended up really enjoying for people who may not have heard about it. And I did try mention why KSP might not be to everyone's tastes.

Did you even read what was written?
