If you want the original turn based I don't understand why people just don't play the original.
Doesn't that go both ways? If you want Action combat, why not make a new game/new IP?
Technically just about anything can be made to go both ways with a little rhetoric. Though how much it would make sense varies depending on the topic at hand. When speaking of this, one would have to make a pretty long winded argument to make me accept that it works as a whole.
When you have an original that you want updated, you remaster it. When you have a remake, you completely remake the game from the ground up. Imagine a game like FFXIV 1.0 being remade into FFXIV 1.0. But with Direct X12 to make it prettier.
What would be the point? What passion would there be from the developers? Why not modernize it to the audience of today so that they can enjoy it? Then recommend they play the original to see how it was, since they play differently.
One might argue that FFVII was a great game as is. Not all agree, but in general it was a financial success, and 1.0 was not. But the principle remains the same. Why limit ourselves to the past? Why buy a remake if it's the exact same game -- that plays the same -- with just it looking pretty? We've already had this game remastered a half dozen times, and the modded version looks pretty nifty by itself.
Though what I'd like to see is a Modern version and a classic option on the selection screen. To get the best of both worlds and witness a true, modern, FFVII game rather than same game, different system.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.
All we wanted was the same game but shiny. I don't know anyone who wanted gameplay changes.
Were this just a few weeks ago, I'd probably concur with that sentiment. Though through general perception of a dozen or so reaction videos and the comments (and thumbs up / thumbs down of the official trailers), it seems that the vast, vast majority of people are intrigued by the idea of an updated game. Not just in graphics, but in all the systems.
Preferences are nifty things to have, but we should always keep an open mind.

have done many many times , i even play it now with all kinds of ultra hd shiny mods, people enjoy turn based and square should have never of turned away from it because well since they did their games have sucked donkeys balls tbh. Final fantasy fans dig turn based to me that is what final fantasy is and i miss having a new real "final fantasy" game to play its been so long ! im a huge ff7 fan but i would rather play a new game with proper turn based over a ff7 skinned devil may cry p.o.s
I would have voted for original but improved, but I can't really think of any improvements! The only thing I could sort of think of was taking some of the things from lost odyssey. So, melee attacks you'd have to pull right trigger at correct time to get a crit. Also, the front-line "wall" to protect the backline was also kinda fun. However, I can live without them.
I don't understand the switch to action combat. The magic of the original was materia determining skills determining the tactical combat. With the combat switching to twitch, the tactics get massively dumbed down, reducing the importance of correct materia usage. Sure, the latest ingame trailer looked good visually, but looked really bad from a gameplay POV.
