I gave up on all mmo's a few months ago and don't miss them at all. Moved on to SP or Co-Op games which are much more enjoyable to me now. I still like to following whats happening in the MMO world, but as long as they are either f2p, crowd funded, or eastern made, I will be sticking to the sp/co-op games.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

Is it really any surprise members of this site are looking forward to something a bit different?
Players say they want innovation - once you give it to them, majority hate it.
Reality - people say one thing but often don't actually want it in practice.
What people really want is more of the same, anything radically different (as in very innovative) is the last thing masses want.
There is a difference between good innovation and innovation for innovations sake. Some of the proposed models and mechanics may not work in these indie games but at least they are trying to innovate and if one of them gains traction it will be a major success.
Watch how fast your AAA devs copy the model. So I am not surprised CoE is top of the hype meter, it is new and refreshing and may or may not work but its certainly more interesting than what AAA guys are doing.
Finally, I agree that people generally dont know what they want and thats why games should not be made in forums or through metrics. Devs should follow their vision at all times, once you water things down for every well meaning advice giving know it all, you are left with an average game that does nothing well.

There isn't much more that can be done with the mmorpg universe. Now we just have to wait for graphics updates and expect everything else to stay the same. Look at D&D from the 70's. We still follow a lot of things they created with that game. mmorpg's have set themselves and those who are unhappy just need to realize they don't like mmorpgs and go play ps4. I don't see anyone coming up with unique ideas that haven't been tried before. What we need is just gaming companies putting the right ideas in the right order so we can enjoy them. I always imagined VR to be the next step but seeing how lazy people are I don't see vr with movement sensors working at all. Maybe vr hooked up to a gamepad or keyboard instead. Just like I never imagined phones would get bigger instead of smaller.

What exactly is the difference between a good innovation and one for the sake of innovating? And, how are the "indie" studios that are trying to innovate make theirs "good"? I mean what real world examples do we have?
The game is top of the hype meter because the imaginations of those who say they want innovation are behind the idea. That will drop like a rock once the reality of implementation hits and all the "indie" starts showing through.
Exactly. It is easy for people to say they want something when they don't have to do the work to create that something nor are they required to keep playing something when it turns out to be not as fun as they guessed it would be. This is one of the reason game development by forum dwellers is a horrible idea. Heck we can't even agree on our "standard" terminology let along game mechanics.

Chronicles of Eleria is the top on the hype meter. We are in for some bullshit the next few years.
Something wrong with SoulBound Studio's proposed MMO? Guess the past 10 years of shit games from AAA companies has left veteran players no choice but to support indie companies. If you think CoE is bullshit, than you've been living under a rock for roughly a decade huh?
actually I thought it was an ambitiously awesome Idea, until read their FAQ. They plan on allowing cash to in game currency transactions. This is bullshit in any game that has done it. They tout being all hardcore and work for what you get, but you could just buy your way to the best things with your wallet. Then they justify it saying everyone doesn't have the time. Newsflash, you aren't earning it by buying it with real money. So yes COE is BULLSHIT, and Soulbound is a bunch of liars and cheaters.

2. The second reason for this system is to make it fair for people
who have money. Yep. You heard that right. Typically people fall into
two user groups - those with plenty of free time and little money, and
those with plenty of money but not a lot of free time. Most MMOs today
have been built with the former group in mind. Those with families,
careers, limited internet access due to travel, etc... are often left
feeling like they need to spend all of their in-game time farming gold.
A
system of buying gold and using it to purchase training from other
players allows those who want to enjoy the game, but don't have a lot of
free time, a way to stay caught up and competitive. " WHAT THE HELL?
What is sad is how gamers these days bitch and moan about games. When I was a kid we had atari 2600 and we loved it dammit!
Today we have so many choices. If you want, you can even go retro and play games made today that look like they were made 10 years ago. Odd, but the choice is there. I wish this was the case when I was younger. I am getting old and will eventually be gaming less and less, but today I have so many games to choose from that I play them as often as I am able.
My advice, find some friends or join a clan or gaming group and play games with those people. This makes gaming so much more fun. It no longer becomes about the mechanics of the game or if this or that is in the game, it becomes about the fun times you have with your friends. There are times when I play a game that I am not really thrilled about but a few hours later I am so glad I did because of the fun I had with my friends. That is what gaming is all about. If you prefer to go it alone, then that is fine as well but just know that there is no such thing as the perfect game. If that is what you are looking for, then you will never be a happy gamer.
GAME ON!

I can't even find one gameplay video of that Chronicles of Eleria game. So the most hyped game is some indie thing that is still in the screenshot phase.
Sounds like someone has been tinkering with the hype meter.

As long as they don't water the game down for everybody because of this group of players who don't have time to play games i don't care if you can get in-game gold for RL money. I don't like it any more than you do, but if the game remains challenging and fun i'm willing to pay that price.
Also, there was an example of this RobinHood guy who buys in-game currency and starts an guild, only because he has gold and can do it. This is just like it would be in real life; people with money most often also has power and influence over those who are poor. If this game truly simulates a fantasy world (and i sure wish it does), having rich and poor characters makes even sense.
I'm not sure which i hate more in modern mmos - making everyone equal in terms of time and difficulty so that everyone has to play alongside with the lowest common denominator removing all challenge and purpose to play for others, or giving some players advantages for RL money. The former is more common atm, about 99.99% of MMOs goes to that category (that's how it seems to me). I wouldn't mind if some developer tried the latter for a change, especially if it even makes sense in some twisted way.

The issue with innovation is that you either need a reason for it, or you need to move something forward. Just doing something different just to be different but isn't better isn't what I'd call innovation. That's just.......well....different.
And that's what we have seen in games. Or, if there is any innovation, it comes with hefty trade-offs leaving us in the same state we were in as before.

The current market is in a place where they need to figure out how to organize all the ideas that already exist in other mmorpg's. That is what we are seeing now in every game just a different version of what already exists. It isn't necessarily bad because when a mmorpg actually organizes things properly it is very fun. Take minecraft for example. Somehow that old block game has been organized in such a way that it has more players then wow ever dreamed of having. Yet it really has nothing new, just old ideas implemented differently. Sadly the money isn't in mmorpg's. Surprise but candy crush made more money then WOW did last year.
I've always been hiiiighly skeptical of that thing. Many of the games that pop up there are the type that stands a good chance of tanking hard the moment they go live. =/
Well, may things turn out well for the people of Chronicles of Elyria, even though I'll be giving the game a wide berth, along with all but two of the games that are currently on that list. (B&S and BDO) :chuffed:

Nah, it's the huge amount of jaded players that calls these forums home. They're likely the source of that hype.
Of course the moment that game's been out for two months, it'll get the ArcheAge and Wildstar treatment from them too.

May be the innovation players want is for dev to stop making mmorpgs, and make other types of online games.
