Thinking of playing post expansion

I played GW2 on and off. I leveled a character, then went to WvWvW and other PVP.
Since I do not own the expansion, and I currently don't plan to do that for the moment.
I do not PVE, unless it is out of boredom and I do some PVE event. But I could care less about raiding and dungeons.
I am not planning to go on a mastery grind. So I would just like to play GW2 without the expansion untill I decide to buy the expansion.
I would like to know if my toons (maxed 80s) are still viable in PVP?
