Best class for small group ganks

tats27tats27 Member UncommonPosts: 95
With the new PVP updates and the addition of the outlaw town I'm thinking I'll be spending a lot of time PK'n.

Since Ninja won't be available on launch, what class do you all think will be the best at hit and run sort of attacks?

I'm leaning Sorc, but I haven't tested Giant, Wizard, or Tamer yet.

So don't take this the wrong way, but what motivates this type of gameplay? I mean, I understand when there is something at stake for PVP, but what is the motivation for ganking in THIS game? Not like it's full loot, you get bad karma which actually makes YOU lose loot.

Unlike say Archeage you don't "have" to carry around trade packs you can lose. So many types of things you can "trade pack" that never leaves your inventory, from monster loot to fish etc.

So, other than say running someone out of a good farming spot, what is the reasoning for the random gank here?

I've just always enjoyed open world PVP; however, zerg style fights can get pretty boring or don't really feel impactful to the individual.

The thing at stake is terrorizing other players, I suppose. Once you kill someone a few times, they call for help. Then you have a cat and mouse sort of situation and it's fun to continue to try and snag kills.

I think BDO will continue to add incentives for open world PVP, so I'm hopeful for the future.

Na & Eu won't see the outlaw town for quite some time.  But to answer your question I would go with 2 Archers, Valk, Sorc, and 2 Giants.  That would be a good group.

Those are good reasons to me, lol. I like to PvP, I like to kill other players.

Yeah Valk would nice to have a long for all the CC/knockdowns she has.

Ganking people has nothing to do with pvp, you are just a bully that wants to annoy people. If you want to pvp look for opponents and not victims buddy.

Not his fault you choose to play the victim. Still player vs player.

If the "victim" just stands there or runs, might as well be a mob at that point.

I love PVP, but find attacking those that won't fight back to be pointless and zero challenge. Fun? Sure, but I'd rather have a challenge than just lulz.

BDO seems to have very friendly PVP and more for those that want some sort of structure to fights beyond random killing.

As I'm enjoying the non-PVP aspects currently (too low for the higher end stuff), I hope they add in additional options to give more reason to OW PVP outside of the structured stuff, beyond "haha I killed you." But I don't see them going with any sort of loot/reward system that would be worth while. Honestly don't know if they have any PVP leader boards for individuals or groups, but that could be something I guess.

Still hoping CF turns out okay, but the complexity of BDO is going to be hard to match in any way.

Well, isn't it like in one of the good old western movies? You have a good guy and a bad guy. In online games, some people simply want to slip into the role of the bad guy. Sounds legit to me.

Not really. The "good" guy usually wins and usually fights back. The folks that have issue or even use terms like "ganking" are the random people walking down the street that get shot by random bullets and what not.

There is also some form of accountability in movies and real life. Games not so much. Allowing people to be as ..... as they can.

BDO luckily has a system that punishes this behavior from what I know, but I still hope they give more ways for those that do want to be good/bad PVPers to fight one another.

To be fair, it sort of does.

The idea is that "the bad guy" kills someone and they then get their clan/guild involved. War is declared and then they fight until one or both sides agree to a cease fire.

While I don't really see the joy of killing players for the heck of it I do support the idea of games that allow open pvp and even enjoy it as it makes the world seem more real. Clearly, once again, the issue here is that players who don't like this type of play or who just can't tolerate it just don't belong in these games.

So far good karma cap is 300k and a pk kill for the one who starts is -60k roughly 5 kills. After that your flagged if you don't grind to stay in the plus. If I'm not mistaken no penalty for the defender or some other nearby bystander who decides to flag and help. If that stays the case going to suck to be a pk asshat griefer.

I like pvp in mmos and shooters. But open pvp in mmo's 9 times out of 10 always turns into griefing. Hardly ever 1 on 1 even gear or level mostly always a gang gank. Weak ass gaming if you ask me.

Any game that is Open PVP is not for pve players that don't like pvp.

Come on people, the OP isn't trying to hide his inability to be good at PvP. He even titled this thread with the word "gank", implying he would rather have the upper-hand at all times, never an even playing field. Fighting fair is not what the OP is going for. Honor? Not a chance. He doesn't have to pay for his actions in real life. There is no fist that will come out of his monitor to break his jaw. There is no "disqualified" for the way he wants to play. Just give him the advice on a character and leave him to his weak sense of morals.

If someone has fun ganking, that's a good enough reason. You know, the whole point of games? To have fun. Who cares if it conflicts with your own version of fun. Irrelevant.

Always fun to have some coward jump you after you almost finish a really hard pve fight and you are low on health. I hope they all die from dick cancer.
Well maybe if you weren't unfriendly, people wouldn't kill you  =)

Also don't get why people play games when they don't like the basic mechanics.

"I got killed in a game that has PVP, this is stupid!" Perfect logic.

Want fair/balanced/safe competition, play one of many that does just that.

Btw. OP from what I have read, Ninja and Tamer use shortsword. so if you want to play ninja later on you should roll a tamer I guess.

Competitiveness.  Being the best or bettering yourself.  Some people like playing games differently.

I mean, it's the same question and general answer if you ask someone why they like to play market games and corner the market.  It's not like they need the money, it's just another exciting thing for them to do.

What I find most amazing is the fact that people on these forums scream to no end, even to the point of tearing up, for a sandboxy game then are bewildered when people take advantage of sandbox elements.

    I mean....really?

I don't really care what you think about me wanting a fair fight instead of typical coward PVP ganking or ambushing. I just hope this game will have room for both PVE and PVP.
would be a shame if it was just another stupid gank fest run into the ground by the PVP mentality.

OP here. Wow, look at all these colorful responses!

As expected, a ton of carebears who just want to make a pretty character and play an MMO without any human interaction have flocked to the topic.

I didn't ask if you agreed with my topic, so why even respond?

Older MMOs like EQ, vanilla WoW, Shadowbane, etc etc had great open world pvp where it wasn't always fair. That's right, pvp isn't always fair.

I would love to be known as a notorious ganker who you had to watch out for every time you were in a certain zone. You would have to have a friend, or three, with you at all time because otherwise me and my small group would kill you. On the other end of the spectrum, there would be times where a victim's guild would punish us for the ganks and we be forced to hide out for a while until things cooled down.

That sounds like fun to me.

PvP isn't all about instanced battleground where everything is fair and balanced. While that can be fun, it isn't organic.

The KR version has already undergone great PvP changes to encourage more open world PvP.
If a game has open world PvP, like BDO, does, than expect people to participate in it.
  • PepeqPepeq Member UncommonPosts: 1,977
All one needs to do is look at AA and you will know exactly what BDO will turn into.

And for the record, when has PVP ever NOT been a gank fest?  Dueling?  Even then one guy is usually better spec'd or geared than the other.  So don't bring up the word fair when speaking of PVP.  Hell, it's about as *real* as it can get... NPCs that not only see you but hunt you down and take all your stuff.

So far PVP seems rather tame in BDO. Unless they change things up a lot for NA, "ganking" isn't too rewarding.

Like many games, they seem to assume that people won't be solo 100% of the time, which seems to be where a lot of these "ganking" issues stem from.

But either way, PVP of whatever sort seems to be a key element to higher end game play. No real WoW style raiding or anything yet and the actual larger scale PVE can be fought over.
