Tamriel is bigger than the current GW2 game, but probably not bigger than the world of Tyria beyond the maps of the continents of Tyria, Elona, and Cantha, as shown in the link below. Keep in mind that The continent where GW1 Prophecies and GW2 take place is called Tyria, but the actual world where the whole Guild Wars IP takes place is also called Tyria which is the equivalent of Nirn in ESO/TES.
im serious. about what you guys think. I think ESO is the largest mmo out there besides WoW.
Not sure it is tbh, the largest probably goes to Eve Online, which is bigger than WoW afaik. Though Lotro apparently has bigger maps too, i don't think ESO is really all that big when you compare it to other MMO's currently out there, not just WoW.

Then you should have rephrased your statement, as you yourself mentioned that ESO was the largest MMO out there besides WoW. As your statement encompasses all other MMO's, and not just GW2, doesn't even mention GW2 for that matter. And no, ESO doesn't have that big of a game world, many MMO's that have been around for years are much larger.

Eve never felt like a large game to me at all, Just a series of different instances with different color backdrop , was one of the things that bugged me about Eve...
Anyhow ESO sure felt larger than GW2 , not sure which is tho ...
And i believe that WW2 online actually has the biggest world , as it is scaled to Europe ..
Used to be a member that had every game size in detail(Thread going) was before the site had changed and hadnt seen him in quite some time prior to that so may not be findable ... Was quite detailed ..Thread on MMO game worls sizes..

But EVE is just full of empty space :awesome: If the amount of space you travel in EVE was actually terrain then yes i would count it as the biggest.

If we count Eve space then add in WoW's space you can fly around in.

Lol. EQ and EQ2 is far larger.
ESO is larger than GW2 but it also copies a lot between different areas (which of course is a price have have to pay).
But most older MMOs are larger than ESO, I am pretty sure GW1 is as well. The thing however is that unless the zones are really small like in AoC it really isn't the most important thing in the game. First of all is how you use those zones more important than the size of them...
Take close to any 10+ year old MMO and it is larger then ESO (that it have been updated for all the time adds to but many of them were larger already at launch). Of course the better graphics the smaller zones unless you cheat and either limit the number of players or copy and paste a lot.
SWTOR, are pretty large if you put together all the planets, I dare to say It's top 3 MMO by size.
The explorable area of a planet in SW:TOR would barely be a single city in The Crew, though... if not less.
Yeah, and comparing it with games like EQ or AO is a laugh. TOR is about average in size with most other MMOs of today. It isn't really small but there are plenty of larger games out there.
The size of the game world hardly says anything. How much of it is actually playable? How much is it detailed? How much of "meaningful" high quality content there is?
Looking at those terms, ESO would probably easily win this argument. Cyrodiil alone is as big as Eastern Kingdoms (100km^2), while each "average" ESO Zone is ~11.1km^2.
ESO is already 300+km^2, that is without all the dungeons (group, public, delves etc.), or the quests that lead you into different realms/locations. Also the Zones are incredibly detailed for an MMO, even the architecture is different in nearly every Zone.

I think both worlds are massive.
This is one reason I'm a fan of classic EQ. The speed was low enough to make the small zones seen far bigger.
