This is the new world of gaming. I won't be surprised if it launches buy to play with a sub fee. Then a year later moves to f2p with sub option and extreme benefits to sub's at which point people will start claiming p2w. My advice would be to just watch it on twitch and move on, these games aren't special like they think they are, this game is even a mobile title that thinks it's something special.

first they ruin the game by changing it from hardcore sandbox survival to some shit with multiple safezones where people can hide into, now they changing it from free 2 play, 2 many whiny backers played the game and complained to the point where they ruined it.

Imo, free to play games shouldn't even exist. However, that IS just my opinion.

    Agreed.

Great news. The f2p always leads to a cash shop to p2w.... It sounds like they know what they're doing and going in the right direction.

Does this game "feel" anything like UO?

No, not really. Apart from having an isometric view and full loot FFA PvP, it has very little common with UO. I'd say the closest comparison would be EVE online in a fantasy world, but you'll have to realize EVE has 15+ years of content development behind it while AO has just a few.

    Here's what is happening:

SI is listening to the majority of their player-base. In order to make the changes, they need more time. This has angered the vocal minority who thought they could come into the game and kill people indiscriminately to make themselves feel better about their pathetic little lives. Now they're finding out this will not be the case and throwing a temper tantrum. Diapers have been soiled. What a shame.

How does this work though won't the characters get wiped?

I mean who in there right mind would play this until it actually comes out in august and lose all that progress. I guess maybe if you wanted to just help the Dev team and fund the game but now days most are just there to get there sneak peek...... It just seems like a longgggg beta test to me but I guess that's the norm nowdays

I guess they've sold enough Founder's packs that they think they can make a go of it as a B2P game. Hope it works out for them.

I think they finally realized the vocal minority is really a minority. Too bad other game developers don't realize it sooner in their roadmaps.

Which vocal minority are you referring to?

The one on the Albion Online forums. It's the same 20 people complaining about everything and just won't ever shut up. They really need to move on.

I think moving away from F2P solves the additional problem of the rather large playability (note combat) differences between mobile and PC platforms. Albion really is turning into a PC game, mobile becoming an afterthought and not competitive whatsoever.

I'm not sure what they mean by "not free to play at launch".  There current system lets you buy premium time with coins, and that time grants faster xp gain, more silver gain, etc..  Not any real P2W kind of stuff.  You can also use in game coin (silver) to buy out of game coin (gold), making it very similar to EvE's Plex system.

Are they also suggesting a subscription cost, on top of that?   Or will there be a subscription cost to replace that?

Played: E&B, SWG, Eve, WoW, COH, WAR, POTBS, AOC, LOTRO, AUTO.A, AO, FE, TR, WWII, MWO, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, NWO, WoP, RUST, LIF, SOA, MORTAL, DFUW, AA, TF, PFO, ALBO, and many many others....
