Are you saying GMs and employees aren't allowed to play their own game?
And if so, they can't use names that they want?
That's pretty selfish.
so if you paid $200 for the 4 day headstart to reserve your name "OhhPaigey". you would be fine knowing that a gm reserved it 2 weeks before?
Not in the least, I'm sure as most people can come up with viable and workable alternatives as we've all done for just about every single MMO we've ever played online.
Please, the world has enough problems as it is to not give a moment's thought or concern to this minuscule issue.

Yes, because I'd reserve the name Paige instead.
Honestly though, I bet you every single founder's pack game has GMs claiming names before players do, that's how the system works. Somebody who works for the game, needs a name(s) in-game too. And they should have priority over everybody else.
I really assumed that was common sense 101.
When all is said and done, more is always said than done.

That example is taking things to new extremes, honestly anyone who bought the founders pack just for a chance in the name reservation race is new kinds of stupid. I bought the pack for the other stuff and kind of glossed over the whole username reservation thing since I have a long list of names for "If X is taken do X" of course I'm glad I got a name which I couldn't get back in the beta (sorry to whoever I nicked it from but dems da breaks.)
It's all good UNLESS your selling the name idea as such that you get the name and NOT the GM's before it even goes live. You should also RESPECT your player base enough to announce that you will only get names after the GM's but then in that case how far might it go?GM's friend, neighbor, wife, her friends and kids, there could be literally thousands of names taken prior making the whole sell job nothing more than FALSE advertising.
If you are not going to HONOR what you are promoting and selling, then remove it from the sales pitch.

Whoever said that GM hording names before paying customers can get access to the game, is "normal", is drunk.
100% false
ARADUNE was reserved
Aradune is Brad Mcquaid. He's the main developer of EQ. Of course he has a character name.
What does that have to do with GMs hording names.
Make some sense, jesus.
Hehe what about other devs and employees including IT ops team?
It happened.
Make some sense heh
This person makes very little sense in alot of there posts, so go easy on em kano.
Theres been several valid points into this being normal and legit scattered amongst the posts. Has there been ay valid points is to why this was wrong doing? I cant seem to find 1 post with legit statements of this being douchey*.wrong*
GMs have taken names before launch for a long time. Hell how does anyone know every mmo doesn't do this? Blade & Soul has a website showing names... other mmos don't. Everyone freaking out cause they "caught them with their hand in the cookie jar" who gives a fuck.
What if the name you wanted to reserve was taken the instant before you hit enter? What if the name you wanted to reserve isn't allowed? What if you stop playing the game for a week and someone else can take your name?
I mean you can really turn yourself upside down over this or just accept the fact that everyone and their brother is just as clever as you and all want the same name. If the name is really unique, you have nothing to worry about. If on the other hand, you want to use the name Kenny... good luck with that.
Then of course, in about 3 months, most everyone will be playing something else and you will move on as well.
If dozens or hundreds of names being reserved before you get a chance to claim yours is a problem for you, then you seriously need to come up with more original character names. When there are millions of names already reserved, then it can be harder to find a new name that you like. But a handful of names from GMs? No.
It is normal for them to do so. They have to anyways because they need to create there GM Character in-game, so yes they have to reserve 1 before the players. It is done like that in every mmo's. It is just that normally they don't state the obvious to the players.
Just live with it like everyone else. you still going have to live with it with every other game you will play in the future anyways that has name reservation in game.

Yeah 1 not 7 but like many have said, I could care less, I usually use original names anyway. It's somewhat undeniable that they handled it poorly though (community managers were classless) and it was somewhat sneaky to sell name reservations and then take them. Also on a side note, most games have a "GM" tag for their GM players that allow them to use any name without taking it away from someone else. I mean, what GM needs Naruto for a name. Feel bad for the 125 buyers but they should just backcharge if they are too upset.
An asshole move, but what else did you expect from NCSoft? Good customer service? Fairness? They're all about the money, and if you're a customer in a western nation, you may as well be a cockroach to them.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

the GM's will most likely have a tag attached to their name to indicate that they are GM's or not, stop your whinging it's a name and if you payed money just to reserve a name... you are sad
Of course it's a normal practice, that's why everyone is so upset right?
GM's might pick names first, but they're probably names they've already been using on forums, or names that people wouldn't pick anyway. It's 100% not okay to advertise name reservation as a paid perk only to not even have a chance at getting that name. I read that all the big "gem" names were already taken by the reservation time (diamond, sapphire, opal, ruby...etc) because you know GMs needed to make sure those weren't in the game.
"But you could have lost out to other players for that name...." Well, yeah, but at least you had an opportunity and lost. It's not the same as being told "Pay extra money and you'll be able to reserve a name that one of our GM's left over."
I've been one of the people who've paid extra for something as stupid as a name reservation in the past, I'm completely dull when it comes to thinking up new in game names. If you've been an online gamer for years and you're used to having "your" name, it just doesn't feel -right- being called "GOKU4" when you're used to "GOKU2".
I remember watching one of their live streams where they made it very clear "You will be the only one with YOUR name on any of the servers for that region". You can't honestly say mentioning that didn't help push some higher tier sales.
The employee perk argument is so stupid. I guess them playing the game for free, or you know getting paid to do their job means nothing.
Let's be honest though, in like a week no one will care about this.
I need to be Bob. If I am not Bob, I am nothing. Being Bob gives my life meaning. Being Bob gives me fulfillment.
I pay money, so that I might be Bob.
GM Bob becomes Bob before I can be Bob. My life is ruined. I am worthless if I am not Bob. I scream to the sky "ARRRRRGH! I must be Bob!"
I go to the highest bridge, and I write "I should have been Bob, but alas, I am not Bob" I jump into the icy depths, for there is no life worth living if I am not Bob. I soon find out, that fat people don't sink. I bob.

How is it an asshole move? So are you saying being on the team that helped develop the game for the west does not give them some perks?
Man what an asshole move on your part for suggesting this.

I miss the good ol' days when we complained about WoW, uphill, both ways, in the snow, with sticky space bars and ball mice!
Have you forgotten just exactly what generation your dealing with?

I see nothing wrong with what they did. Everyone that is complaining needs to just stop playing games now.
So what is next? Going to through a fit because they used the color blue in the game and you wanted to use it?
Get over it and grow up!
