EQ 2 is by far the best housing system ever in a game. Total flexibility in placement (we used to create whole "rooms" in the sky!) and tons and tons of components and pre-built materials and items. On top of what you can put in it also has the greatest variety of base houses, from small 1 room apartments to entire islands.
It's guild halls are also incredible. Small, medium and large with just as much flexibility as the housing.
Nothing comes close.
Others deserve honorable mention. FFXIV, SWG and Archeage are good from a flexibliity perspective but can't quite match EQ2.
FFXIV has a problem in that the base systems are technically limited... they can only handle so many houses due to a bad technical back-end design which means many players are screwed and can never have a house (unless other players quit and relinquish their houses).
Wildstar has decent housing but is a bit overly structured and limited (you can't just "create" things from other components like you can in EQ2.
Rift has dimensions which look cool but I haven't actually experienced them directly myself yet.
LoTRO is also respectable.
There are others but those are the top ones that come to mind. There are a lot more but of lesser capabilities than those above.
What game do YOU think has the best housing and why? Also what game do you think will have the best in the new games that are on the horizon (Black Desert?? looks promising).
I need a new game. Been playing EQ2 and it seems (to me) to have the best housing I have found. Am I missing something? Thanks for your opinion on this - I really appreciate your input!
Darkfall.. because its the funnest and there are no instances and the housing is much more valuable since it can be located at a very strategic or useful location.
