Upgrade gtx770 to gtx970?

Looking for a bit of an upgrade though not going to move above 1080, I'm happy there.

No reason to move up to gtx980 at 1080 as I've browsed the net.

Personal opinions here? I'm still runnin a I5-4670k, being it seems to still hold it's own.

I ran a gtx780 for a few weeks but diden't find the increase in fps Worth it so i returned the 780 and now run my old gtx580.. dont see any reason / game that needs more gfxpower to run smooth enough for a good experience.

I personally wouldn't consider an upgrade from 770 to 970 worth it as of yet, I'd wait it out another generation unless you really badly want to stick to top of the line.

That said if you have plenty of money to spare, 970 is a nice card.

a gtx 780 will eat a 580 on many games. The only reason you would stick to a 580 is if you are playing on a 800*600 screen right? I mean come on now the 780 is the card that is apart from being kepler is on par with the 970 cards still.

I tell you what, get rid of your 580 and use the kitchen toaster for gaming I am sure its about the same in performance. :D

Is a GeForce GTX 970 a better card than a GTX 770?  Yes, of course.  Is it better by a large enough margin to justify the upgrade?  Not unless the GTX 770 is failing or otherwise needs to be replaced whether the new card is an upgrade or not.

My general principle is that you shouldn't do small upgrades.  I'd generally want to see you double your performance if you're going to replace your video card.  A GTX 970 isn't even close to double the performance of a GTX 770.  Doubling your performance would put you in Radeon R9 Fury/GeForce GTX 980 Ti territory, and that's probably more than you're willing to pay.  So I'd hold off on upgrading for another year or so, by which time there should be some far better options out than now.

If you "Think" im trolling feel free to check my sig, youtube streamer never had any problems with my gtx580. I Think your thinking is elitist.

what gfx increase do you notice going from a 580 to a 780? slightly less jaggy? 5 or 6 fps more? come on now, its a waste of Money!

    Thanks for the opinions all.
Seems though I may enjoy all the bells and whistles turned on. It's really not a wise time. At $330 for a gtx970 for a 23-25% increase, doesn't seem to warrant itself. Spending over 600 for a 980ti is just silly.

Think I will see where the market turns in the next few months.

Not much of a reason to upgrade unless you're upping your resolution or you want to up your fps.

I was having a problem trying to shoot down a plane in GTA V at 30fps, I turned my settings down so I achieved 60fps and shooting that same plane down was a piece of cake.

I didn't think my response times would be affected that much, but the difference to me was astonishing.  Now I try to maintain at least 60fps in all my games.

Wasn't much of an upgrade from 670 to 970 EXCEPT the 970 has 2.5x the pixel fill rate for higher resolutions and it was needed for my 1440p monitor upgrade. At 1920x1080 it isn't a big improvement tho.

Upgraded from a GTX660 to GTX970 half a year ago. And while smaller games don't show a lot of improvement (okay, FPS goes from 45 to off the scale :D ), games like Witcher 3 do show a notably improvement. Then againm the 660 had only 2Gb RAM while the 970 has double that, and I'm not even comparing the GPU speed difference...

Going from a GTX 660 to a GTX 970 is a much bigger jump than going from a GTX 770 to a GTX 970.  For that matter, going from a GTX 660 to a GTX 770 is a much bigger jump than going from a GTX 770 to a GTX 970.  It's not that the GTX 970 is bad; it's that you had a lower starting point, and thus more to gain in the upgrade.  In your case, you did double your GPU performance, making it a worthy upgrade.

My personal opinion is that I love gaming at 2048 x 1080 which for many of my games I have been doing for years. If 1080 is all you want dont upgrade

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
