i am not in that game Because i like doing PVP when i feel like it...
Killing others players just to kill them with no candy at the end ..i dont like .

The best PVP was in Dark age of Camelot.

PVP had a meaning you wanted to have more Towers the the 2 others Reals to have access to a special dongeon with the best armors in game you could only get with special token you could only get in that dongeon

I get it youngers Players dont like crafting etc,, all they want is fight and Kill and thats find with me so thats why i dont play this game

Sadly no more news games offer Crafting, houses decorating, super good PVE , Dragons Raids and PVP when u feel like it

I like the full options for a cool virtual adventure

A lot of people think that DAoC was a game centered around PvP.. It wasnt. A small percentage of its playerbase took PvP seriously.

That's some anecdotal stuff you are throwing out there. Not sure what you are basing this on but Daoc's main draw was rvr, period. You cannot use revisionist history jedi mind tricks on people who played the game. Yes there was PvE, and it was a grind to get to 50. Darkfall was about as close to embracing pve as the community got. When the battlegrounds came out that is where most people leveled, because it was pvp. Maybe you were in a guild that did a lot of pve stuff, but to say the majority of players were not out in RvR? Maybe you need to clarify "seriously". But the game in fact was centered around pvp.

PvE isn't about challenging the environment (as opposed to other players), it's about the challenge being structured, (reasonably) predictable, and 'safe'... the PvE boss only ever requires a party of X size and Y composition, he is not going to pull out any nasty new surprises, and he doesn't take all your stuff if you wipe.

To use the example from the OP about setting up a farm and defending it from mobs, while this does have some appeal to a PvE player (love to see such things in a AAA PvE MMO), the fact that you can (and most likely at some point will) lose that farm to an invading army means that any self declared PvEer isn't even going to start.

As others have said, CU is a PvP game, and it should stay that way. To make compromises for the PvE crowd is not only (IMO) disrespectful to fans but does a disservice to the game and genre as a whole. I'm not a fan of PvP generally, but I am still keeping an eye on CU, not because of any promise of PvE content, but because, if it is executed in the right way, then it will be a kick-ass PvP game with real risk, real reward, and a dynamic world where players can and will have an impact over time. And that, approached with the mindset that it is a PvP game, does have a lot of appeal (even if I have to risk my farm to see it).

Totally rediculous article that got me to look... This game even with all the cool features and interesting crafting and character design is dead to me being totally PvP oriented. I like PvE first and really like the concepts or battle zone, guild wars, etc where I can have additional options. But open PvP world without any real intent to offer PvE isn't gonna attract me at all....

Sorry this isn't the MMO you are looking for....

it works in eve (the first 18 months i played i didnt pvp; others have played a decade and rarely or never pvp), i bet it will work in the next gen pvp games CU, BD, others.

I'm ok, DAOC didn't even have very good PvE.

There's enough PvE games out there for me I don't need this one.

Depends on how it's done. I'm a PvE'er that has enjoyed PvE in Aion, L2, and a few other games.

I don't understand this behavior really, PvP players come in PvE game threads and complain why the game is not FFA Full Loot PvP game, PvE players come to PvP game threads and complain why the game is not more PvE based. This is absurd.

Hey, how could I possibly miss this one for almost a day?

Couple quick first impressions (no time for second ATM): PvP is scary, you have to soften it a bit, to wrap it up and hide somewhere safe. Say, start by explaining that RvR(vR!) is not PvP - there is much confusion about that anyway.

Or, say, this way to put it: return to the text and read how many times you said "PvP" (that scary word!). Now, imagine that you are hard-core PvEer and that you stumbled across that "PvP...PvP...PvP" (with couple other words inbetween) article. Would you finish the first paragraph? I wouldn't :)

For what it's worth, I'd write it without putting a single "PvP" in (hint: RvRvR), with some hope that couple PvEers will read at least through the first half. Or more, if I'm lucky!?

@TimothyTierless I made a huge sacrifice - I PvE roleplayed for a minute (man, it was tough!) to give you some feedback. I'm 100% exhausted from that horrifying experience.

The voice you heard didn't belong to me. Good thing is, tomorrow is my usual chainsaw massacre Thursday, so I'll recover a bit. A bit.

PS for what it's worth, I just linked this on MMO, MMORPG and CU reddits.

Of course it isn't PvP, it's more like zerg horde vs zerg horde, if you're lucky, if not then zerg horde vs you.

You know it never amazes me, i guess i should not be surprised.
Here i thought i was going to tip the hat to a writer that finally wrote a heart felt article about gaming that was not somehow tied into any particular game, but nope i was wrong.

To make mention of Skyrim or Fallout 4 has little to do with this game, almost nothing at all.FO4 has cheesy mechanics to lockout critters and in reality you are NOT playing the game passively, having a bot or minion fight for you is the same as any pet class in a game having their pet do the killing.

It is pretty simple really unlike THOSE games,CU IF it has little to no PVE elements,it will offer NOTHING to a PVE player. In this case it is not even about a CHOICE,he had no choice because he doesn't have the budget to compete in a content rich pve game environment.

I am just going to say no, please do not come into this community if you do not like pvp. We all know what happens....the collective whining will commence and the calls for more PvE will come then before you know it we have Daoc:Trials of Atlantis all over again. There are tons of PvE MMOs out there, please just go play them to satisfy your PvE needs, this game is for a niche crowd that doesn't have anything else like it to play. We have been waiting for this since Daoc was in its prime, don't ruin it for us. I am sure the author can handle the experience, just don't encourage the masses of PvE players, it will end badly.

Though I do currently prefer challenging PvE gameplay over OWPvP in an MMORPG I agree with this simply because it's for a specialized audience and it's so far into the PvP spectrum. I do want to point out that not all PvE MMOs are created equal nor have the gameplay those that prefer PvE would like, such as a more open-ended sandbox feel. As you said about CU there is a niche crowd out there that doesn't have anything else to play.

I'm not saying CU should be that title, just that the "if you don't like PvP you have plenty of PvE options" mindset doesn't apply in every case.

The thing with PvP is that the difficulty is set by the skill of your opponent. Unfortunately, that makes most PvP games boring and trivial to play as the skill level of the average PvPer is rather mediocre. You can add to that the mechanically inept rules that these "open" PvP games usually feature. The prize to the worst one probably goes towards PvP "flagging", or any mechanics where you can avoid PvP at will, be it switching faction, or otherwise switching yourself as "friendly" to any players nearby. If you're a PvP game, go full arsed, or don't go at all.

Otherwise you end up watching ridiculous scenes with a dozen players all cowardly waiting for one person to flag themselves for PvP so the 11 remaining players can gang up 11v1 on him, because none of them 11 people had the balls to participate in any far resemblance of a fair fight.

Those are the players who call themselves PvPers and boast about being the bad boys, too badass for the average "carebear" to endure.

So I'm a believer that PvP mmo's are a dead genre that has never worked, and never will. Only fair, structured PvP interests me, because that's the only place you can actually find quality PvP.

My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

For what someone will pvp if there isn't any pve to fight for ?

I myself loved Daoc more than any game ive ever played and i liked having both aspects available. I love to pvp and id say that it is my focus, but at times its nice to take a break and go farm some uber loot, or help a guildy level up or whatever.

Daoc had amazing pve. Epic dungeons were amazing. I loved TOA aside from the ridiculous master levels and the associated raids. The rest of toa was brilliant.

Of course it was all in the name of RVR, but yeah having both in one is optimal for me. Will play it just as a pvp game of course, but would like to see good pve content like daoc had with grouping and all of that added at some point.
