For a start fallout 4 size is pretty good for me and its only going to get bigger through updates and expansions.

Already posted that a few threads down, but that's OK. Maybe it'll spread the caviling thinner. :)

Is this Dead Zone only, or the PVE zone as well? If so. If both, how big is Dead Zone, which is the place where I would spend most of my time.

If you only want to compare the maps of The Division and FO4 by their basic measurement, this guy has a point.
But let's not forget that the actual gaming world of FO4 is not only the outdoors-area that is the wasteland, but alot of it is also underground or inside buildings on multiple levels.

I don't know if The Division has an many locations underground or indoors, so my uneducated guess would be that while both maps may be the same size, the actual accessible gameworld in FO4 might be bigger in total.

The map sizes of pretty much all open world games will be very similar because there is a max size possible with current engine technology.

    Very well done video.

I believe it has less to do with the current engine technology and more to do with the amount of work and return on investment in detailing bigger worlds.

The division has also different subway levels and lots of appartments to go in and buildings to get on to.

so... no FO4 isnt bigger at all

But i think you also need to keep in mind the walking speed, like he said in GTA5 he went from the top of the map all the way to the borrom within 3 min, and that feels smaller to me then the time it might take for us to go from west to east in division and because FO4 is mostly a wasteland it might feel smaller/faster then the map in the division because it has more to do per square then FO4.

There are parts of the Division that can get kind of boring to travel through when there aren't a lot of mobs.  And most of the areas were gated, so portions where I would probably, normally find my way through, like subway stations, forced me to turn back which is kind of annoying as its a long way to travel.  Luckily fast travel is an option in the division, so that is a plus.

I did enjoy some of the zip lines and things like that to get on top of, or back down certain buildings.  I definitely do not want a huge area of NYC to travel through, not at the rate the characters move, and each mob encounter can take a bit - even trying to bypass some of them can have disastrous outcomes, at least at the lower levels.

I'm looking forward to the next test though, its a lot of fun.

these games really need to stop making the map larger and instead open up some of those friggin doors

Also.... That map is from the division beta... That afaik have a part of the full map cordoned off. The final map should be bigger still as far as i understand it.

This have been a good conversation

It's not only the map size - it's what there's to do in it, and what kind of content appeals to your more.

To me a realistic city is map is, well - boring - because that's what I see every day of my life - so even if the Division had a map that was 1,000,000 by 1,000,000 miles of city - it would still be not something I have much interest in.

So to me - city maps - meh - not my thing.

FO4 world is far more interesting to me than Division for example - again just my opinion.

So a city map is boring to you but a city map is far more interesting to you??? Is that what you are saying?

If a city map isnt something for you, then you dont like this game at all, because this games mainstory and all its features are in one of the largest cities in the world (dont think a DLC will come in the near future thats gonna change it) and not in a wasteland or in the mountains like FO4

The impression I got from this video was that he didn't like the results so he started making up reasons to make the Division's world look bigger.  GTA V is massive and you can't really downplay that.

In the end, it doesn't matter about having the biggest world.  It's about making a fun game that has enough in the world to keep you interested.

it was more of a general statement and I can see why a map of New York would not want to open every single door. I am just saying the AAA market now has 'big' down now they should focus on detail.

That is what I am suggesting
