Lets say I did get a 4K display, will changnig the resolution to 1920x1080 alleviate the load on the graphics card when I'm gaming?
Of course. The display has nothing to do with it - it's the rez you play at that does.

yes, it will just be scaled right before it enters the framebuffer, it's a super cheap operation just like mip mapping, it is basically like playing in 1080p
1920 x 1080 is my standard res. What am I missing?
that's the question isn't it
Are you missing anything? Can people actually tell 4k from 1080p?
Does that small difference justify the factor 3 drop in FPS and large power consumption.
My argument is that 4k does not justify the cost.
And my more daring argument is that it will never justify the cost and will never become mainstream for gaming.
Never say never
Skip a generation and I'd put my money on that it will probably be standard on the game consoles.
It will be the norm at some point. The next big thing seems to be OLED screens. No back lighting among other things. Insanely expensive. Dell announced there's recently and the prices are crazy high. They have a .1ms response time. 4k screen. They get under $1k I am definitely buying one. I watch TV, movies, ect at my desk. Rarely use my 60".
Wow, those are the ones which costs my kids college fund?
Probably a better investment then the sad state of the current disaster colleges currently are in. It's only getting worse by caving to the demands of the lying entitled brats.
Completely agree. Wish like hell I'd just gone to community college. Same education for about a quarter of the price, and none of the pretentiousness.

How can anyone be surprised at this? Not even console people have 4K yet. XBO and PS4 have been "working on it" for 2 years now. And I'm certainly not putting that onto a desktop. At the size I would use it at (a comfortable 27" or 32") 4K would be damned near indiscernable to HD. It's only when you blow it up (65-70"+) that it becomes noticeable to the human eye.

COMPLETELY incorrect.
On a TV sitting 10 feet back I cant see much difference between 720p and 1080p.
Setting on my computer monitor 1 foot away the difference between 1080 and 2k is IMMEDIATELY noticeable.
as a side note the closer and closer you get to a screen the more you notice the distance between pixels, tearing, frames per second etc. which is why all these things and more are extreemly important when the screen is 1" from your face in VR.

Iv been thinking about getting into 4k, Im currently using a 7950 which will obviously need to be upgraded but upgrading my cpu will not be a option, Im using a amd fx 8350 8 core proccesor at 4.00 ghz... So my question is will my proccesor be good enough if i go out and buy a titan gpu...Also will a single gpu be enough for 4k? Or will i need duel titans... Also currently how many games support 4 k? Does WOW or any of the other mmo's run at 4k?
Wow I just read this thread and wow! Kiyoris does not know math or how screenshots work or how resolution works. Basically knows nothing. There's no point in arguing with a person that does not know basic concepts. Lol wow. The ignorance in this thread, specifically by Kiyoris, is cringeworthy.

can it be summed up as:
hey look at this 4k image on my flip phone. I cant tell the difference, I dont see the point in 4k if I cant tell the difference in a 4k image on my flip phone

Exactly what's going on. How can you talk about an experience without actually experiencing it. And then speaking as if most people cannot tell. Kiyoris has probably lost it and just trolling to safe her/himself.

I have yet to come across a Kiyoris thread that didn't follow exactly what you are saying about this thread.

Is it for a monitor on your desktop?
I'd recommend going 2k 144hz. No need for a Titan X, you won't come close to using up the ram, go with a single 980ti.

Then again are you talking about playing a game in the living room or on your PC?
what people fail to understand is the difference between sitting 1 foot from a screen and 10 feet from a screen is friggin radical.
Why people dont know that is beyond me but it is what it is.
