Yeh, this is new. CIG conspicuously stopped using the term "pre-order". Huh. No one is supposed to legally be considered "pre-ordering", but "pledging". Nice.

Growing up in Detroit we would call this, covering our ass!
Think of it how you will, but he's just saying it like it is. If he called me an armchair developer he'd be absolutely right.
Funny how easily he can get a bunch of panties in a bunch.
You'd think he would be a bit humble and show more gratitude towards his community of cash cows... ummm, I mean players. Oh whoops, I mean future players.

I think you're both right honestly, on one hand that's exactly how some people act, on the other it's probably not for the best to point that out as a project lead...

Man I thought there was too many pve vs pvp or open vs instanced threads that were beating a dead horse. You guys who hate this game take the cake though(fanboys not far behind)
Tomorrows headline! Chris Roberts doesn't like cheeseburgers!
Oh and for the record: pvp > pve and open > instanced
"He explains that he could have done a better job informing backers that, as more money came in... the scope of the project expanded in turn.
Somehow, this game feels more and more like a scam with every article. This quote seems like a big red flag to me, and not sure how anyone can continue to support them after such a statement. It's not that he didn't communicate effectively, but that the project supposedly expanded to such a degree without the backers knowledge, and, for all we know, could be (most likely) an outright lie and they've just been mismanaging things to the point they're struggling to get the basic features in without running out of money. Or they just prefer to keep it hyped and sell ships to dumb people rather than continue full-blown development.
But this is just from an outsider casually watching this unfold.
LOL..yup, you called it! Wasted all the work done, hired big name actors, show work done weekly and monthly blah, blah, blah. Outsiders know shit.

eh i dont mind the guy saying this. he's right, people armchair stuff all day long. with social media anyone can be an armchair anything. its a way of life. thats why ppl always have to apologize publically about their interviews and social media stuff. someone somewhere on the internet is getting upset about xyz thing they read and want justice/vengeance/apologies. honestly i dont care to hear apologies or worry about the crap ppl say on social media anymore.

Well he is right i am an armchair developer and i know more about proper game design than he will ever know. What he is good at is the same ideals that most successful businessmen are good at,ripping people off and putting on a salesmen smile. he does all these hand picked Q/A that even then he seems never give a full answer but a vague one.I would love to see him answer my questions like does he honestly think the most valuable asset a game has to offer belongs in the game shop and not EARNED and/or crafted in game.
To me he has no real gaming sense,he has these shallow ideas that seem to magically cost a ton of money but always from a business sense not from a gaming sense.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I would love to see him answer my questions like does he honestly think the most valuable asset a game has to offer belongs in the game shop and not EARNED and/or crafted in game.
Pray tell what is this "Most valuable asset" that will be sold exclusively in the cash shop upon launch? Surely you don't mean ships?

I don't hate the game, i hate the player. I just think Croberts is a very unpleasant person. From him looking like a thumb with eyes, over his slurred speech to his insufferable hubris everything about him is making me uncomfortable.
I also think he is the downfall for this project that i really wish to succeed. Though, to be honest, there are so many space games coming this year, we might not even need SC any more.
(Most of them in an already more playable state that SC is)

One of the few downsides to asking people for money to make your game.
It's the Chris Roberts conundrum: "They give me a lot of money and want open development and then these armchair developers annoy me with their questions"
Also: Totally Oxymoron (i still think he does not knows what it means)

So if WoW started selling raid loot in the cash shop, you'd be okay with that?
Nothing that is used in a competitive game environment should be sold for real world money. The fact that the ships can also be earned in-game is meaningless. That should be the ONLY way to obtain ships.
"Now you have a million game designers, a million arm chair developers, a million CEOs [telling us what to do]," Roberts explained.
You can´t say he is wrong.... For all those people who pledged to the game, how many on average do you think have any actual experience with game design? How many of those act as if they did?
Is that not the very definition of a armchair (insert job here)
Now i do think this kind of actions are very unfair for anyone holding down the title of communications manager / PR on his side because there is no way to spin it in to something positiv... But it is still kinda true. =P
The very next paragraph in the article says, "But at the same time, Roberts said most of the Star Citizen community is "incredibly supportive and positive," contributing their own good ideas to the development team. This passion amongst the community is exciting and encouraging, he said."
At any rate, are you ACTUALLY going to say he's not right? Are you going to say that there aren't plenty of people acting like they know better? Saying how things should be done. I'll point a finger squarely at you directly and say you've done that. I've done that too. I'd venture to say the vast majority of people commenting on this thread have.
I laugh at the call for accountability, when nobody seems to be able to be accountable for their own actions.

Also, CR was right about armchair developers and CEO's. Everyone behind a keyboard knows how to develop and run a project better than the people in charge. All game forums are filled with them.

Imho doesn't need to be spun, he's just saying as it is. If people get offended, let them, they probably need to be told.
tbh if anyone actually gets upset over that, then that say a lot about them.

1. Changes TOS to favor companies.
2. Say SM is already in SC and drop CoOp.
3. Change one word to Pledge.
4. Make Commercial. Shocked Sandi wasn't in it.
5. Give interview blame backers wish he did it different.
6. Non-Fact Runs out of cash close doors.
I may be looking at this wrong but darn it sure seems like where he is headed.
