Your pick between these 3 combat styles. FPS/TPS, ESO/TERA, TAB TARGETING (Eq, WoW)

I've enjoyed many styles of combat over the years, but wonder what has the majority vote in today's MMO players (or at least the ones active on this website willing to take a poll).

Polls need to have an ordered list of preference instead of being able to pick just one. I personally like all 3 in the right situation, but would prefer:

    1. FPS/TPS
    2. Tera/ESO Style
    3. Tab Targeting

    In that order.

I realize it's not an exhaustive list, and didn't exclude for any other reason than I'm not interested in the others Lol. SORRY!

First and third should be separate. I prefer first over third. And both can be aimed/tab based.

You're referring to the perspective. I'm talking specifically the aimed combat. Crosshair, use your mouse to aim, click button to fire/cast/whatever.

I mostly prefer how blade and soul has it.  Soft targeting but still action combat instead of the slowpaced full locked on games.
Outside of that I will not defend blade and soul since it's botinfested to hell ^^

First/Third Person Twitch Based Combat is my favorite but I dont mind the other two.  But only if it can be done as smooth and responsive as The Division or Destiny.

Definitely not First/Third person twitch combat.

Def darkfall type combat.  No animation locks/rooting to the ground.  No real combos just free aim craziness.

I can tolerate GW2/TSW type soft target stuff as well.  I really have grown to not like WoW, SWTOR full tab target.  But I do enjoy EQ as that game tends to have some tactics and it's so slow it is definitely different than WoW/SWTOR tab target.

I have played every system and for mmorpg's only auto lock tab targeting works the best. That doesn't mean it will be the best, all depends on the developer and if they know wtf they are doing.

Twitch combat is only good in a fps/pvp.However it is no secret i don't like or want any pvp in my pve/mmo/rpg so yeah.I also don't want any fps in my mmorpg either.
I have seen and played what brings the MOST out of the combat system and that is macros, gear swapping and auto lock.
I wouldn't mind aim targeting IF a developer could give me a really good UI where i don't 3 hands and that is not going to happen so again yeah.
If they have simple spam combat, then i couldn't care less what system it uses,i won't be playing it.My point being manual or whatever does not and will not ever make bad combat good.

    Third person + tab targeting.

So I'm supposed to choose between three different combat styles that only include:

    1)  Games where I didn't like the combat, and
    2)  Games that I didn't play because it was obvious that I wouldn't like the combat?

There are plenty of games with combat that I have liked, some of which could be shoved into one of the categories above (Guild Wars 1/2, Champions Online, Neverwinter), and some of which really couldn't be (Spiral Knights, PotBS ship combat, Atlantica, Elsword).

Action combat. I can't stand tab target. It bores me to tears.

The games were just examples of combat styles. I failed to add strategy so that's my bad (I don't like it so it slipped my mind). Besides, polls are just another way to invoke discussion so if you don't like the options and care to voice you preference I will still read it and so will others. If the polling system was such a trash heap I would make some changes.

I like a combination of AoE moves and tab targeting. I get annoyed with games that have you dancing too much out of telegraphed moves.

The way you present it people may believe that WoW, EQ, SWTOR and the likes only feature tab targeting, which can't be further from the truth.

Any half decent player in the aforementioned games uses the mouse to pick his targets.

I picked Full tab targeting (Eq, WoW, etc). I'm okay with First/Third person combat (Darkfall Online, DFUW, etc) aka twitch based combat as well.

    Action all the way.

All you WoW style tab target players better adjust (or keep playing WoW) because there will never be another AAA tab target mmorpg.

BDO is the first game I enjoy action targeting style. But I still like tab targeting the most.

I only play third person and prefer combat such as WoW, SWTOR and EQ but have recently gotten used to the ESO style. I like to see my character and her gear when I play, I probably prefer the tab/mouse/keybind targeting style because that's what I did first and for many years.

Tab target combat system since it represents the true rpg. RPG is not about flashy combo or epic movement of a player, it is about building up a character according the rules of the system, system that determines whether a player can dodge or not; whether player can hit or not; whether player can resist or not, players has to build up themselves according to the rules set up by the system so that when they are in combat system has high chance of siding with them. The only way that is ensured is tab target, a soft lock target system like tera or gw2 also works but nothing compares to the rpg feeling of tab target for me.

It's a title given to that style of combat. Does not mean a tab button is even required at all. I don't know what else to call it.

Perhaps better list look would be something like:

Twitch combat > what I referred to here as fps/tps because that is the typical style of combat for a fps or tps shooter.

Soft Target - Like ESO, Tera where you aim at your target rather than click it prior to casting/shooting.

Target - where you can click to target and/or tab through your available targets

Then there are completely different mechanics like turn based that I didn't include and after thinking about it, don't feel bad for not including because it's a completely different mechanic all together. Different enough that trying to convert a game would be impossible.
Switching from targeted to soft targeted and back is not difficult at all as they are fundamentally exactly the same thing. Literally the only difference is you either click a target to select where your attack is aimed or you point at it. The actual action that is take is the same.
Switching to/from twitch is a bit more difficult, mostly on the NPC side of things, but switching any of these to a turned based would literally change everything about it. So in that regard I kind of think of these three, twitch, soft target, target, as being 3 variations of action combat, and that's what I'm really focusing on in this poll. Which form of Action combat do you prefer.

The thing that pissed me off:
    1. Twitch Action Combat
    2. Twitch Action Combat+
    3. RPG Combat

If you had said "2. Twitch Action Combat+ (Wildstar, GW2)."  I wonder then how many would have voted for it.  They would have been too busy arguing that Wildstar and GW2 don't have the same combat style.  The point is, this is an overly Biased poll.  Serving no purpose other than to wallow in the filth of action combat.

Allow me to explain the difference.  Action combat is a system for low density combat (ie 32 vs 32), has more to do with hardware and lag than skill.  RPG combat is a system for high density combat (ie 128 vs 128), has little effect from hardware or lag.  Let's skill actual come into play.

I know what you are going to say.  Well just upgrade the server hardware by two or three units of magnitude.  That's what a distributed system is for, just add two or three more servers to the zone.  This makes Action combat the more expensive system to implement, potentially tripling the cost.

    Pardon any spelling errors

F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.
