Yes!!! man Played Boot Hill and Gunslingers and so wish we had a Western MMO add in elemnts of Orgeon Trail ect it be super. I wonder if some of the issue would be in adding the Native Americans into the mix as so many College and Pro Teams have had mud slinging campaigns on Mascots. I would think a smart developer may meet with many of The Chiefs and get input to help round out such a game . Not sure just a though as to why we dont really have one now
Can I be the first to say that maybe it doesn't have to be historically accurate or even based on Earth? This would allow for some freedom in the lore, as well as steampunk and other elements that could be added.
That way we also don't have to worry about offending anyone.
Or make it completely historically accurate, with many of the main characters being evil, land hungry, white men.
This is probably how to handle it, either go the Dark Tower route, borrowing the gear, characters, etc but disassociate it from real history.
In an alternate reality outcomes can be very different than how history played out.

I think it could be neat, but I live on the west coast and don't find the possible crafting mechanics to my taste. Not sure what you would do outside playing sheriff.
OK ok And what with Native Americans ? included in game or not as if it didn't even exist as if European Emigrants never did their genocide ? Or they will be in game only as Mobs to be slaughtered thousands and thousands ? AHAHA this game won't even get the right to be published xD ......might if it will be accepted by some minorities but then it must be quite true to American history but every one knows Americans are most ignorant hypocrites in entire world . So how we deal with History lore behind the game ?
Regarding the poster, it applies to almost every human society since the dawn of time.

Not for me, have never been a fan of the Wild West.
Perhaps its part of being British, but we just don't have any equivalent landscape in our countries or any equivalent timeperiod in our history where we had "frontiers" etc, so there is nothing to connect me to the Wild West. I just don't like deserts / scrubland and the yellow/orange colour palette.
However, if it was built well then I might play. We've never had a AAA sandbox MMO, so if the first one happened to be set in the Wild West then I'd probably give it a go just to see what it's like.
Think of It like your nations imperialism in Africa that be the nearest you could relate it to.
To get me into a wild west game it would need a twist. Like Firefly or a fantasy element. Cowboys vs Native Americans is just a yawn. Also the cowboys are so in the wrong!!!!
No option for undecided. A wild west MMO is too generic to say yes or no to. What features will it have? Is there PvP, open world or instanced? Themepark or sandbox? Class or skill based?
I don't have a problem with the setting as such but I'd need far more to go on than just "Wild West" before I could make a choice. I suppose it would be yes, if it was a decent MMO and no, if it was shite.
I remember playing this tabletop D&D-ish game. Was fun. I make a bounty hunter posse called the Jackson 5. Tito, Jermaine,..etc,..heh.
iirc, most of the bad guys in out campaign were bank robbers and outlaw gangs. Adventures on trains and stagecoaches. Fighting against corruption. Violent Indians too I am sure,..just don't remember them being 'THE' bad guy in the game.
I'd play it. If done right,..you 'd have a nice sandbox open world, settlement builder and raid world.

Valid argument. Personally I would like to see one that's sandbox, skill based and non-target (A shooter.)
Someone mentioned earlier a steampunk atmosphere could easily apply, that would just be awesome. A game based kind of loosely around the old Wild Wild West TV show. Crazed villains with over the top steampunk mechs and such. The possibilities are endless.
If Red Dead Redemption was a MMO you dont think people would play that?
I think the next Red Dead will be a MMO or at least in the way GTA5 is an "MMO." I think anyone making an themepark MMO should play Red Dead Redemption and take inspiration. That's how it should be done.
I can't wait for it to be backwards on the Xbox One. Online play was blast.
I will play a good single player wild west game with a good story though. In fact, I did. Call of Juarez is a lot of fun, with its tongue & cheek style story telling.
Make it more of a sim game. No PVP. Town building, crafting and homesteading. Like Oregon Trail on steroids.
@MikePaladin How can you explain black people owning slaves too? American Indians owned slaves? How was the country built on slavery when more than half of the country fought Americas bloodiest war to end it? Revisionist history much?
I wonder why there is not a single Wild West MMORPG out there. There could be so much to do in that setting. Like small western towns, old mines, Indian tribes, Warfare/PVP, treasures, crafting/inventions, wilderness, territories, trains... So much good stuff you could implement. Would you play it, if it was a high quality game?
Being someone who designs games actually has explored this option since Wild West is my favorite..
Actually one reason is you can't use Native Americans, can sue if they dislike anything they see...So that makes it hard for developers...You would need to stay away from that aspect and do what Red Dead did, and use Mexicans... mostly... Trust me, our company wanted to make a MMO, now we plan to make an open world game in the future with western Theme, but we will NOT use Native Americans which really sucks... I talk to many lawyers about this... To many risks..

Can't use Native Americans, trust me, you will be sued..... is it possible yes, but they are very picky about that, so it makes it to risky for any company...
