Was impressed by what I saw on that video today. They are further along then I thought they would be.
Just need to polish it up some and get the rest of the animations in and I think it will be golden. Loved seeing the group working together to kill mobs and not just button mashing their way through things. Game is definitely on the right track.
Will probably pledge some money once I get my next pay check.
They got really far I actually really wanted to play it even in it's pre alpha state. They have a ways to go but as long as they don't cave to the casuals it will be a solid mmo experience.
Those kinds of things probably wont even be addressed until they have the more important systems in place. It will be great when they're in though. Personally I'd be happy playing as is if they'd make those nameplates a reasonable size and remove those giant floating health bars.
Truth be told, this isn't going to be a high octane AAA fighting system. I am thinking that if you are thinking anything other than Everquest or Vanguard inspired then you are thinking in the wrong way.
The animations and such will probably be a "little" better but they aren't going to be amazing I bet.
This game is about other things. Slow, planned out combat, strategy, working with a group.
To expect anything else is to be unrealistic on one hand as far as their resources (I imagine) and not really in the way they are creating combat. Again, think some sort of slow combat, probably like Vanguard in some ways.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Looked pretty good. Disappointed that they still havent done much with character models or animations in the last 6 months.
I think its in line with pre alpha - look what I would have expected.
I wouldn't expect a lot more polish unless they can secure a ton more funding and hire a bunch of devs.
Graphics and animation polish is what separates AAAs from indies.
And this is why they will have some difficulty with some players. Some players are not going to be able to have that paradigm shift an think of this game in the correct context given small team and less funds.

Even within the tab targeting system, there are far smoother combat systems and I doubt much will change in this regard before launch.
I think clearly this game wont be for everyone an probably isn't meant to be. Looks like to me they plan to deliver what many people have been asking for, a graphically up to date version of Everquest. I will pledge $100 to see where it goes based off what was shown in a pre alpha stream.
If you guys think the final product will look anything like what you saw tonight, I think you're way off.
These guys are most likely pouring all their time into getting the core game working and the design and implementation of mechanics and class abilities. Yes, it will take money, but the money they do have will be ultimately be wasted if they spend it on making a turd look pretty. Is anyone paying attention too all the failed mmos in the last decade? Graphics didn't retain their playerbase.
I missed it and with all the crap that flies through the advertising on this site and i never even saw this mentioned until MUCH later. They should setup a twtich replay so others can watch, others like me lol. What to do now,go back and look at mmorpg.com adverts on BDO and Crowfall and Trion games.....sigh.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The biggest reason for this is people don't look at games as a social tool anymore, you could have this group dynamic in something as generally easy as TOR when it released, yet the funny part is those areas were deserted, the SWG guild I was in leveled almost exclusively this way in TOR until most quit when the truth about Ilum came to light, non bg PVP was a total bust. Still like I said those areas were all but deserted. They always have been.
That's just the thing about these "failed" games you mention, the only people sticking around are those doing just that, joining others. In the end you're left with the same thing, AAA or not. You'll just see that decline faster this time as that solo it and leave it route the majority are accustomed to, won't be there..
A lot of folks really don't even know there difference between games that are based around communal mechanics, and games that are solo oriented..look at feedback on Black Desert..
How do you think these folks will react when they can't find a fast route in Pantheon? Say what you will about who it's made for, when did people start realizing they're not the target audience, before blasting games they don't "get"?

The market is already flooded with graphics over gameplay MMO's, Pantheon is going for the opposite. The main thing that concerned me was the comment about being able to solo. If there's one thing the last 10 years has taught us it's that people will take the easiest path to max level. MMO gamers are smart enough to know levels>gear so even if you take a huge gear hit to solo to max, it's generally worth it in the end.
In other words if you can solo, everyone WILL solo. Let two classes solo "ok" and make everyone else group. Now if your 10 levels higher then the mobs then sure, it's fun to flex your muscles and plow lesser dungeons solo just as long as you aren't leveling this way.

I asked their chat moderator during the twitchstream yesterday :
zolramz : Will animations improve to vanguard or better level at launch or more like EQ1 level? machail_vr : They will be much improved prior to launch. There has yet to be an animation pass, so it's the very basic functional stuff you're seeing right now.
Personally im happy if hey can get animations and spell effects on par with Vanguard. Graphics alone does not make or break a mmo but it can create a more immersive game expericene.
The world looked really nice. The character models and animations were fine for the stage of development. The animations as is don't really bother me. The combat does. The combat pace is really slow and would bore the hell out of me.
Prepare to be disappointed then, because combat there was fast. They were killing mobs every 5-10 seconds, and its doubtful that it was intended. They have a lot of tweaking to do, and combat being too fast was one of the biggest complaints among their fanbase.
Looks really great for the state of development they are in which is pre-pre-alpha! Most people have never seen a game in this stage of development. Remember art, animations, sounds,
UI, and pretty much everything else are a work in
progress. Unlike the development you may have seen in the past - this is an honest, unhyped presentation. For comparison, here is what WoW looked like early on in development: http://kotaku.com/very-early-screenshots-of-world-of-warcraft-1711350152 IMHO this is really a promising beginning and shows the team has put a lot of work into the product.
I felt a very strong EQ vibe from the sounds, combat, UI, reputation, flavor text and more. I am sure EQ fans will be very happy.
The team seems to have a nice chemistry - I enjoyed listening to them!
Thank you VRI for providing a really great session!
The ui looks very accessible. I like that they are not trying to reinvent the wheel. Remove head bobbing from walking please! Beautiful world. Reminds me of Skyrim. Wizard is nub. Get your spells on keybind, and focus on what the group is killing! I do not agree with 5 minute breaks to get mana back!
