Where are the PvP centric MMOs?

GitmixGitmix Member UncommonPosts: 605
By PvP centric I mean games where you can PvP straight from the start and only PvP if that's what u like.
WAR and GW2 are good examples of what I mean. Alas the first shut down and the second I grew tired of.
I'm really looking forward to Camelot Unchained but it still has a long way to go.
Anyone know of any other ones that fit the description more or less?

ESO I just played a beta weekend. If I remember correctly, the PvP was fun but there was also a lot of mandatory PvE questing to do? Not really sure anymore. I'll check it out.

Not a lot, just enough to get to level 12. Then you can join pvp. You can level up through pvp, but it will take a while.

Das Tal, yeah seems very similar to Albion Online. I'm not really into those FFA open world PvP games. Too much emphasis on grouping and usually the side with the biggest zerg wins.
Truth be told I prefer "battleground" PvP with even sides.

But anyways, this wasn't really about me finding a new game. In a broader sense I'm just curious how people still manage to be entertained by PvE games, PvE progression etc.. Most of us have played tens of PvE MMOs, leveled 100s of characters through quest grinding. For me it's all become very predictable and boring.
PvP on the other hand always stays fresh because of the human factor. I never get tired of it.

You love PvP but not PvE.
Others love PvE but not PvP.

If you can understand your own preference then why is it difficult to understand someone with the opposing preference?

    There is no big mystery.

    Nicely said.

I, too, like to PvP but I can understand why some people prefer PvE. Sadly there isn't any game that currently appeals to me (BDO isn't avaialble to my region).

MMORPG combat tends to suck.  Level disparity, lag, zerging and pointless.

Yeah I suppose this sums it up nicely. MMOs aren't the best environment for fair/balanced/competitive PvP and it'll only ever be a side show to the core PvE gameplay.

I can live with PVP in MMORPG but it has to be the focus, purpose and accountability.  Slapping PVP on level themepark MMORPG is just bad business.  The players are the draw. A fantasy Planetside or virtual world sandbox that is solid in mechanics and gameplay.

You can reach 12 in a day or in hours if you know what you're doing.

    Why not just play CoD?
  • pantheronpantheron Member UncommonPosts: 256
Why even play a game genre if you don't want open world PVP, or to play PVE content? there are a lot of battleground style games, some more actiony than others, with vary levels of character persistence. most people who like the kind of PVP you're asking for moved to those games, because they better cater to what you want

I play MMOs for the Forum PVP

I prefer 3rd person tab target combat with loads of character progression. I just can't find any new game that fits this category anymore. MOBAs are fun but have no character progression. Shooters, meh...TTK is way to fast for my taste and you need an excellent internet connection which I don't have.
Large open world zerg v zerg games, you feel insignificant and there's very little strategy involved.

I guess GW2 or even TSW fit the description but I don't like how PvP and PvE are totally segregated in those games....

Maybe I should go back to a WoW PvP server until CU comes out :( Not gonna happen.

Why oh whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy did EA shut down WAR??? Bastards, I'd still be playing it. I miss my goblin shaman !

Grain of salt and sale time.

Check out Trinium War it's in EA and kinda has a been of chaos going on right now since it's early early EA.

Supposedly we'll see large scale pvp large field etc. (Level 30+)
Also some kinda moba play at level 10.

Pretty decent game for a EA Korean game.

    There are tons:

    World of Tanks
    World of Warship
    Planetside 2
    ......
  • AxehiltAxehilt Member RarePosts: 10,504
Planetside 2 is one of an extremely short list of worthwhile PVP MMOs.

The vast majority of PVP MMOs are casual trash where progression or population are allowed to prevent any truly deep PVP from emerging.

Even PS2 has an uncomfortable amount of vertical progression honestly.  The game would be better off with just lateral progression.
