pvp and loot

PhoebesPhoebes Member UncommonPosts: 190
Is the multiplayer in this game full loot pvp? I read that there is gear you can pick up and it will improve your character.

Does it have the kind of system where you spend hours and hours to get some nice gear and just have it looted if you get killed by another player?

Or does the gear that you get not really matter that much or is easy to come by so if you get looted, it really doesn't matter that much?

In the dark zone all items looted from boxes, mobs etc. are contaminated. They have to be extracted in order to get them out of the DarkZone and available to equip. If you die in the DarkZone all of your contaminated items drop and are lootable by all. This does not include any items you have equipped or clean items in your inventory.
To add on to this, the gear is substantially better, generally, than what you get in PvE, but the mobs are substantially tougher, and of course, you have other players to worry about.

Generally you'll get blue and above gear rather often, whereas in PvE most commonly you'll find whites and greens, and later in the leveling greens and blues.

When you die, be it from PvE or a Player in the darkzone, no matter if you don't have anything you lose a tiny bit of XP, Darkzone Currency, and dark zone keys which are used to open loot boxes with high chances to get rare items.    If you die as a rogue, you lose substantially more of these things.  If you kill a rogue you earn substantially more of these things including whatever they have looted.

"So why go into the darkzone?"  In PvE you can reap similar rewards but you have to generally run a lot of missions to do so, which can be time consuming for the amount of rewards you earn.

In the Darkzone you can obtain substantially more items in less time, if you can extract them. IF being the key word.

As far as easy to come by.  I can't say how fast, but you will be attempting extractions fairly often while in the DZ if you spend any time fighting NPC's there. I was passing up green loot entirely to save room for blues.  And if you kill a rogue, or survive going rogue yourself, you will quickly fill up.  You can carry a base of 6 items, I'm currently upgraded to carrying 8.  Not sure how high it goes.

    Just to make it clear:
    • PVP is only allowed in the Dark Zone.
    • All loot items picked-up in the DZ are flagged as "contaminated", and can't be equipped until "cleaned"
    • DZ loot can only be "cleaned" (made useable) by extracting it from the DZ
    • If you die in PVP, you only drop contaminated items (i.e. loot from your current DZ session)

So if you're carrying no contaminated loot, you won't drop any other inventory (or equipped) items.

It is very forgiving PVP, but great fun around the whole "extraction" mechanic.

    And just some footnotes:

    1. As caveogre pointed out, your bag for contaminated loot is limited to 6 items (a few more with certain perks, etc), but also:

    2. Your contaminated stash back at the base is limited to 30 items (upgradeable?)
    3. You can't fast travel into the DZ. Most people warp to the closest pve location and then walk a short distance to the nearest entrance.

All of that I imagined is geared to put a limit on how fast people can farm.

Personally I like it. It's a decent compromise between full loot pvp and no-risk farming.

    Lots of great information here.

    Things I've learned.

    1. If your stash is full you are able to go inside the dark Zone vendor room but do not leave the second door otherwise your looted dark zone gear will disappear. good buy sniper rifle (weap!)

    2. why are so many loot boxes set at dark zone lvl 30!?

3.Don't hit up the Dark Zone till lvl 10 at least. you will get raped buy the tons of mobs they've added to the zone which is a nice touch. I get frequently over run.

    4. use your grenades for anti flanking measures on mobs. use em like candy they're are plentiful.

    5. using your back up secondary gun is essential I find unloading all my ammo into mobs, using my secondary gun and unloading all of it before refilling both has saved me tons of frustration.

6.pay attention to the small stats on blue gear. don't bother rerolling gear at base. your will burn through gear like candy post Halloween.

    1) they do warn you about this before you leave.  One way to combat this is to die if your stash is full and drop the loot.  You have a chance that what you're looking to keep is put down as a private item instead of a public item.

    2) DZ level 30 isn't tough to get, but yes, it is annoying to see DZ level 30 on boxes.  I spent a couple days in the DZ an I'm at level 25.. the toughest part is deleveling if you die.

3)You see people in there as low as level 5.. its ridiculous.. they'll never be able to kill anything.

    4) agreed

    5) This is a yes and no scenario.  Some people use marksman rifles as their secondary (me) some use shotguns (no range) but DEFINITELY use a weapon that is different than your main so it will use alternate ammo types and doesn't pull from the same pool.  LMG and SMGs are great.

    6) Yes and no on this one too.  Recalibrate gear if you find it to be far and away something much better than what you have, or if you really want an advantage.  At end game, right now, gear isn't tough to come by, and as long as you run the dailies you'll get plenty of gear.  Look at your stats in the recalibration channel.  My recommendation -- use it for a dual spec.  I've recently recalibrated most of my gear for Skill power (and it's Firearms gear)  and I do substantially more damage and more healing.  You can also add health if you want to stay alive longer instead.. or armor.. or critical rating.  I think it's worth it, and its not TOO expensive in comparison to buying new gear -- and you get exactly what you want.skadad said:
wait with dz until 30, kill a few mobs -> gain levels like crazy. You will get better gear faster from pveing to 30 then going dz.
Not necessarily. If you wait until 30, you'll be put into a bracket with a lot of higher leveled, but more powerful players. My recommendation, at the very least, start in the DZ at 29. You won't level to 30 in the DZ unless you hit max DZ rank, which should take a week or two -- at that point you earn regular XP while your DZ bar is full. You'll also earn lvl 30 gear from mob drops around the lvl 30 range. Post level 30 you'll be dealing with mobs from 31+

    About PvP

I went rogue with a group at lvl 14 DZ rank was in the 20's, you max out at 5 bars ( timer), and then you initiate a "Manhunt"

You get a decent amount of DZ credits from this, but going rogue cost you a lot if you die.  I don't see going rogue being worth it at higher ranks, unless you just want some pvp fun.  It does get your heart rate up a bit knowing it will cost you if you die, and knowing players are looking for you!

and note, the more DZ credits and keys you carry, the more you drop when you die as a rogue.

So if you are maxxed out and trying to save credits, remember going rogue might hurt you a lot.

Main point: I thought we'd see more incentives to go rogue and create more pvp.  but NPC's are plentiful for credits and loot. so I really don't see a big reason to do it.  There are no rogue skills or special rogue loot to get.

That being said, it can be fun.  ( I haven't seen a lot of grief killing like I thought)  It does add some excitement when you come across other players, even if they are friendly, you are always watching your back.

What are your thoughts on going rogue?  Any different at lvl 30?

  • maskedweaselmaskedweasel Member LegendaryPosts: 12,195
@caveogre72  well initially going rogue was meant for players to steal other peoples items.  It will also increase your rank slightly faster, in the event you don't die as a rogue.

Most people flag just to flag.. they don't really get the system, they want to kill people and troll them.  When you're in the level 14 bracket you see a lot of groups going rogue just to do it.  Sometimes they'll even wait until after an extraction just so they don't have any items on them when they attack you.

They need to either turn the penalty down slightly for rogues, or increase the gains you get from killing regular mobs.  Deleveling is pretty harsh, and going rogue up to the 5th level, at high ranks, can delevel you quite a bit.

It would be interesting if you could unlock a secret story line.  I saw in one of the videos we unlock, it looks like there are 2 agents discussing going rogue, as a story for a reason an agent would go rogue, looking out for #1 in a time of disaster.

In the dark zone the chests will always drop gear of the same level as you are.  They big chests that are locked require keys to open, but drop usually a blue item of the same level.

Just to add some more info, the loot in the Dark Zone isnt the best loot in the game, best loot can be crafted and has an Item Level of 31 (Item levels shows all the way at the bottom of the items), these recipes can be bought from a vendor at your base for Phoenix Credits.

Phoenix Credits can be gained by doing the missions on Challenging, the Daily missions in PVE or killing Named mobs anywhere on the map, Daily missions will be available from PVE lvl 30 and will only be in Hard and Challenging.
