seriously i hope klei sues this company the art and everything is a direct ripoff, they dont even try to be discrete or sneaky about it. The first thing I thought when seeing this was dont starve is now becoming an mmorpg, I guess not its a company just ripping off the art style to the exact look and feel of dont starve including the playable characters

Aside from that, I've played Don't Starve and don't see the similarities other than the fact that most "hand-drawn" graphics tend to look similar.

You can't copyright an art style.

You realize that if someone made a game that has art direction exactly like borderlands tomorrow, that there's absolutely nothing Gearbox could do about it right?  The FBI won't raid your house if you paint like Picasso.. unless you're trying to defraud people by claiming it is a Picasso.

So basically, this is a "we promise we can build this game for $200k, so please give us money on Kickstarter."

Copyright usually doesn't have that big of a gray area. If you can find just one art asset that they directly copied without permission, that's a copyright violation. And if they created many assets of their own that are somewhat similar to things that others have done elsewhere, that's not a copyright violation.

Hmm lets sue many artists, musicians and writers for copying the style and facet of other contemporary arts and artists.Such a bland vision...

I thought Don't Starve was making the game in to an MMO also.

Like the infinite number of Minecraft rip offs, the rush to copy Don't
    Starve begins.

I mean, it looks a lot like Don't Starve to me. The character design, the items you build and place in the world, the general appearances of the individual biomes. I wouldn't be surprised if there were spooky Elfman-esque musical accompaniments.

I think it'd be great if Klei made a more massive multiplayer version of their world, but the nature of the game works pretty well with its current cap of six players. It's been good fun.

if many people here and on the klei site thinks its dont starve im pretty sure they would have a pretty good case to build. Look at the playable characters not just the world that is a exact carbon copy of dont starve. Im pretty sure klei could easily make a case for this.

Yeah. Go tell a lawyer you want to sue because a bunch of fans of one game think another game looks too similar. Let me know how that goes for you.

The game is obviously a rip off of Don't Starve, but not close enough to warrant a lawsuit. If the people who made Code Hunters can't sue Gearbox for their even more obvious rip-off of an art style, then Klei really doesn't have much to stand on, though I'm sure they know that.

Its not just the art the gameplay, building mechanic, even the character models look the same. These devs obviously have 0 ability of their own and simply have to steal others work. I hope they get sued into obscurity for being such blatant thieves.

I agree. Just because it isn't legally actionable doesn't mean it's right. These people are blatant thieves, and I'm sure they know exactly how much they can steal while remaining safe from legal consequences. Maybe if they spent their money working on the damn game instead of paying websites to peddle their copy-pasted crap, they'd come up with something original.

the fact so many have made the mistake should say something.

Does it look like Dont Starve? Yes.

Is it going to suck? Yes.

Is the third question im going to ask even relevant?

Really like this art style as I did as well in Don't Starve. And they are doing it seems a few more things in a larger way then Dont' starve has.

So im gonna back them because i'd def like to see a mmo version of this type of game come to fruition.

this looks kind of fun. add some multiplayer and it can be pretty cool browser based MMO game, or something for 3DS/Vita or something.

I know it sounds dickish, but I really hope this fails hard. If they were bringing something noteworthy to this game beyond whats already offered in Don't Starve, I could get on board. But as is, this is nothing but a ripoff that I hope only results in more business for Klei entertainment.

How many notes/chords does it take to make something a copy?   If you could generate all the combinations you could sue everyone!  haha!

Currently, they have raised $51,283....from 139 backers? That is an average of 368.94 bucks a person...something odd here. First pledge pack that would get you a copy of the game is 15 bucks.

OMG yea, it's a DS rip. watched the kickstarter vid. SOOOO many DS elements used verbatum. The main guy talking has a title of Creative Director and I just laughed...he just makes everyone play DS and then tells them, "Make it look like that."

Still, an mmo version of DS would be fun. However, I'd personally prefer it on an iPad. DS pocket edition is really fun. A PC feels really overkill for this kind of game
